chiropractor injury

Posted: Apr 2, 2014

Anyone ever heard of someone being seriously injured by a chiropractor? Friend is paralyzed on one side after having something done by a chiropractor and immediately felt a "zing" down his spine and then could not walk.  I am wondering if he was injured or this is a coincidence.  Thought I would ask here to see if anyone had ever done a report on a person damaged dramatically by chiropractic.

My aunt could not lift her arms at all for almost a year and son had vertebral artery tear. Not a report, just personal experience.

Hmmm I used to work for a chiropractor - sm

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

The only thing I can think of (as I asked the chiropractor this myself out of curiosity if an injury can occur from safe natural chiropractic care) and was told that the only way a person could be injured or paralyzed is if the patient did not disclose all health information and/or the DC did not take x-rays before the first adjustment (which should be done for a new patient) and there was some abnormality or deformity of the neck that could not be adjusted manually.

Example, we had a patient who was born with some kind of neck fusion that all of his cervical vertebrae were fused together with no disc in between and he had a straight neck with no curve. He could not have any type of adjustment to his neck at all. But he told us this at his first appt and it was documented on x-rays.

Your friend could just have a severely pinched nerve and his body is adjusting to the proper position of his bones and joints too. But don't quote me on it.

I hope he gets better and he should definitely tell the chiropractor that!!

Hope that helps.

We had a case in one of the law offices I worked for where a chiropractor adjusted a woman, compressed her internal carotid artery and caused a stroke. The firm was able to get a big bucks settlement for her without going to trial.

It is not only possible - xx

My mother went to a chiropractor years ago and was nearly paralyzed by a chiropractor. I myself have sought chiropractic care and the paperwork I was given by my chiropractor stated injuries could occur and by signing the paperwork they were not to be held responsible if an injury did occur. I'm always nervous with anyone working on my neck.

Have You Ever Used A ChiropractorJan 20, 2015
I have a pinched nerve, arthritis, spinal stenosis, in the very lowest part of my spine and I'm considering going to visit a guy who is a chiropractor/physical therapist. If you are familiar with chiropractors do you think he could help relieve my pain? I'm trying to avoid the spinal shots if I can since they offer no guarantee. ...

Adding Insult To InjuryDec 07, 2012
It seems that the collection agencies are now outsourcing their work to India, too. First, they took our jobs and now they are calling us asking why we can't pay our bills. What will they do when they can't call us because our phones are turned off? This country has gone to c**p. ...

Question About Head Injury RehabMay 25, 2012
Not sure where to turn with this. My sister suffered a fall a year and a half ago with many broken bones and a moderate head injury. She was in the hospital and rehab for months and came home. She seemed to be doing better but apparently will never work in her chosen profession again, which is sad b/c she was very bright. She has several cognitive deficits and is extremely depressed about not being able to work. She had her own business and a great deal of her self esteem was tied to her pr ...

Anyone Have An Idea How To Wear Glasses With A Nose Injury?Oct 20, 2010
Yesterday, my husband was grinding the rust off a metal lawn mower deck. The grinder caught on a piece of metal and in a flash, bouced up, hit his safety goggles and knocked them and his glasses to the top of his head and took a little chunk from the side of his nose (thankfully did not hit his eye) right where the nose piece sits about 1 inch, plus gave him 'road rash' on the tip. He's having trouble wearing his glasses. We have tried everything we can think of to make ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...
