Any suggestions for natural supplements for menopause symptoms?

Posted: Nov 11, 2015

I'm 48 and started having weird periods about six months ago.  Kind of figured I was gearing up for menopause.  Ive had a couple of hot flashes, but and just irregular bleeding, but that's about it.  Well, I skipped my last couple of periods and thought great I'm done with periods.  Got my period a couple of days ago, and whew boy did I feel like crap.  I have been emotionally wrecked for two days - crying at the drop of a hat and I've just felt really run down, tired, and fuzzy in my head.  I went to my doctor a few months ago when my periods god weird and we talked about estrogen replacement then, but I've decided I don't like the risks of HRT and I want to let my body naturally do its thing.  But I cannot sit around and cry and have no energy - I have to work and function.  I'm staring to feel better today, but am thinking maybe there's something out there that can ease things a bit.  I've read up on black cohosh, but it seems its mostly just for hot flashes and not the emotional stuff that comes with menopause.

I also do not want to take any kind of antidepressants, etc.  I used to take Effexor several years ago and had did not like the fact that I had withdrawal symptoms when trying to get off of it.  I prefer not to take a medication that I causes stuff like that.

Symptoms Of MenopauseJan 12, 2011
I guess it's time... Menopause is knock knock knocking on my door.  I cannot believe the symptoms that come along with this!  Hot flashes are bad enough, but dry skin, I don't heal like I used to and now a little cut or scrape will be a dark scar, unpredicable periods, dry mouth, fatigue and mood swings! Forgetfulness, can't concentrate...  The worst has got to be the fatigue.  I can't wake up in the mornings, but I can't fall to sleep at night!& ...

Vitamins And SupplementsSep 06, 2010
I supplement my diet with several different vitamins. (A, B-complex, C, D, Fish oil, and E). I had a Dr. visit last week and my physician told me that he does not believe in taking vitamins. He said it was a big scam. What is your opinion. Would you trust this doctor? Do you take supplements? Am I taking too many? ...

SymptomsMar 03, 2016
I have had these symptoms intermittently over the years, but today, it will not go away.  I got up, not fast, and when I started walking I could hear my heart beating in my ears, but it was real muffled.  Felt off balance, but not dizzy per se.  I am well hydrated, and have eaten yougurt and cashews since then (sweet/salty).  I now feel totally weird.  I feel "floaty", and it has been hours since this first happened.  My ears are still slightly muffled, but tha ...

Going Through Menopause - When Will I Ever Get Through It?Dec 09, 2009
I am forgetful.  I am fatigued.  My perception is off.  When asked a question sometimes I know in my mind what to say, but then the wrong answer comes out my mouth, i.e. "is the elevator going up or down"  I would say going down, but in my mind I knew it was going up and that is what I thought I was saying until it comes out of my mouth as opposite. ...

How Do You Know If You Are Going Into Menopause?Jan 02, 2011
I'm 46 and I think it's too early for full menopause, but can you start going into premenopause much sooner?  What's the average age for that?  The reason I ask is that for the past year, I've been having some weird symptoms and am just now wondering if it has anything to do with hormones/menopause symptoms;  the worst of which was an episode where I woke up with the room spinning around me.  It was terrifying.  Then right afterwards I got really nau ...

Does anyone suffer from L5-S1 problems/bulge? I have no insurance so not sure if my problem is still only L5-S1 or other disks.  The strange thing is it is really bad at night, or when I am in a reclining position.  I thought it was my hip, but I can take walks, dance, etc.  Now my thigh hurts as does my knee and down into my foot.  Anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss as to why it is worse when I am in bed. ...

Perimenopausal Symptoms?Oct 27, 2013
I had a recent ER visit this past Friday for what I thought was a heart attack. Palpitations, feeling faint, headaches, and fatigue. In the ER, I had a chest x-ray, EKG, blood work, received oxygen and had my vitals monitored for two hours. After all was said and done, everything was normal, except for a troponin high-normal at 0.24 (range is .01 to 0.35 he said). He told me it was nothing to worry about and could be because I have been under stress and chemicals released can cause t ...

Menopause QuestionOct 05, 2015
I'd appreciate any insight: I have recently developed pain in my nither region. I thought yeast infection, got an OTC treatment with no relief. Made an appointment with my doc, but got a clean bill of health. The pain persists, doc ordered tests, ultrasound, all normal. He thinks dryness or perhaps the beginning of atrophy, said we could try hormones but I haven't decided on that.  Has anyone ever had this?  It's not excruciating, but it does hurt, like I got a hefty kic ...

though they are erratic, usually about 3 months apart at this point.  I feel like I am losing my mind....had an episode of vertigo a few weeks ago followed by extreme anxiety and nausea, wound up in the ER (and if you knew me you'd know I wouldn't even think of going unless I thought I were dying)....they found nothing wrong, sent me home on meclizine, which does nothing.  I still have this weird anxious/dizzy feeling that usually builds up over the day, getting worse until I ...

???? Lupus Symptoms And PlaquenilOct 08, 2014
My daughter has some genetic markers for lupus.  They are not totally sure right now after dealing with it for 17 months.  I am highly disappointed in her rheumatologist.  After her last visit, he said he would get with her lung doctor and that was 2 months ago.  I went with her yesterday to her family doctor with an Eustachian tube blockage and ear pain.  He gave her meds.  He also said the barometric pressure in our area yesterday was bad.  We had bad storms. ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

How Long Is This Menopause Thing Gonna Last?Nov 22, 2010
My LMP was almost 3 yrs ago.  Not too many hot flashes, about 3 a day, but the ones at night wake me up, so I don't get good sleep.  I'm 46 now, menarche at 10.  Saw an ob/gyn 3 ysa and said my LH and FSH were too low to be having any more periods.  Any info, this is just the pits.  Mood swings, swelling, weight gain, you know the gory details.  Tried soy pills and tofu/soy products, but made the hot flashes worse and will not use hormones.   I ...

Menopause Question With Explicit Personal TMI.Mar 12, 2015
Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.       Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them. I think I may have started menopause and have done some research on my symptoms.  Seems like dry tissues and URI are a symptom, of which I have had both.  Very rarely do I get URIs, but after this one was resolved  (I hope), seems like i have somewhat dry but itchy and somewhat achy ...

Perimenopause Questions - Looking For NaturalNov 01, 2014
Been visiting many different sites regarding perimenopause.  That is what I have.  While I don't have all the systems I do have 95% of them (luckily no hot flashes or night sweats though).  What really is getting to me is urinary incontinence.  It doesn't matter how much I try and hold it until I can make it to the bathroom, it doesn't work.  Been looking up what vitamins I should be taking to help control some of the symptoms (not going to go on rx meds) ...
