Menopause - Mental Fogginess

Posted: Nov 24, 2010

I am really having problems with mental fogginess related to menopause.  I am currently on estrogen and progesterone.  Does anyone have an advice on how to treat this?  When it is bad, I can't concentrate to work.  Thanks!

I have been following the gracious advice given below and am taking magnesium (2 days now) and the others (vit E and D) started today. Feeling a little better with the magnesium, will start St. John's wart tomorrow.

I think some of my fogginess is from lack of sleep. I sleep about 4 or 5 hours, wake up for about an hour, then go back to sleep for another hour or so. I am so tired during my shift, I actually cannot get out of my chair, go figure, and my linecounts have gone up. Usually, I am so distractable, up and down, cannot focus.

I am also taking oregano oil for a wheat sensitivity. I know when I eat wheat, I get brain fog big time. I usually try to limit it to the weekends and then the fog lifts around Tuesday or Wednesday. I don't know if this would help, give it a try, cutting down on wheat. Its really hard to eat just meat, veggies, rice, beans, and corn chips or tortillas, no sugar and small amount of dairy products, but I actually feel better when I do.

How are you taking the oregano oil? I was trying (sm) - Yochana

it for a possible chronic Candida infection. On my first day, just to be safe, I took 1 drop in a glass of water and promptly threw it up. This is oregano oil already mixed with olive oil. How do you tolerate it? (Not to mention the horrible aftertaste that lasted several hours.)

Comes in capsules at the health food store - Kittymama

I also take it for yeast overgrowth and as a natural antibiotic. It comes in capsules at the health food store. Like with fish oil, some burping, but not unlike eating italian food, reminds me of my homemade spaghetti sauce. It works well for about 3 months and then the yeast adapt and you have to change to another antifungal. I have used grapefruit seed extract and coconut oil, some others.

I did the whole regimen for about a year and lost 20 pounds and felt good, but the diet was just too restrictive and so I started eating more liberally. I absolutely avoid sugar and anything with yeast, but do eat some pasta once in a while, with major brain fog and fatigue afterwards.

Going Through Menopause - When Will I Ever Get Through It?Dec 09, 2009
I am forgetful.  I am fatigued.  My perception is off.  When asked a question sometimes I know in my mind what to say, but then the wrong answer comes out my mouth, i.e. "is the elevator going up or down"  I would say going down, but in my mind I knew it was going up and that is what I thought I was saying until it comes out of my mouth as opposite. ...

How Do You Know If You Are Going Into Menopause?Jan 02, 2011
I'm 46 and I think it's too early for full menopause, but can you start going into premenopause much sooner?  What's the average age for that?  The reason I ask is that for the past year, I've been having some weird symptoms and am just now wondering if it has anything to do with hormones/menopause symptoms;  the worst of which was an episode where I woke up with the room spinning around me.  It was terrifying.  Then right afterwards I got really nau ...

I swear, about every 3-4 weeks or so, that's what it feels like.  In the exact same location, feels the same way, and I haven't had a period in almost a year but these cramps seem to come on regularly.    All original parts intact, nothing removed.  What a pain, no pun intended. ...

I guess it's time... Menopause is knock knock knocking on my door.  I cannot believe the symptoms that come along with this!  Hot flashes are bad enough, but dry skin, I don't heal like I used to and now a little cut or scrape will be a dark scar, unpredicable periods, dry mouth, fatigue and mood swings! Forgetfulness, can't concentrate...  The worst has got to be the fatigue.  I can't wake up in the mornings, but I can't fall to sleep at night!& ...

Menopause QuestionOct 05, 2015
I'd appreciate any insight: I have recently developed pain in my nither region. I thought yeast infection, got an OTC treatment with no relief. Made an appointment with my doc, but got a clean bill of health. The pain persists, doc ordered tests, ultrasound, all normal. He thinks dryness or perhaps the beginning of atrophy, said we could try hormones but I haven't decided on that.  Has anyone ever had this?  It's not excruciating, but it does hurt, like I got a hefty kic ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

Menopause - Please Tell Me There Is Light At The End Of The TunnelMay 19, 2010
I have been transcribing for 32 years now, am 54 years old.  I started menopause 1-1/2 years ago (so I guess since they say you have to have missed a period for 1-full year that I am officially menopausal).  My world seems topsy turvy.  Is there light at the end of the tunnel.   I have tried working a second job for the past year off and on, but it has been too difficult to concentrate.  After 10 years of working from home, because of the slump in production decided ...

How Long Is This Menopause Thing Gonna Last?Nov 22, 2010
My LMP was almost 3 yrs ago.  Not too many hot flashes, about 3 a day, but the ones at night wake me up, so I don't get good sleep.  I'm 46 now, menarche at 10.  Saw an ob/gyn 3 ysa and said my LH and FSH were too low to be having any more periods.  Any info, this is just the pits.  Mood swings, swelling, weight gain, you know the gory details.  Tried soy pills and tofu/soy products, but made the hot flashes worse and will not use hormones.   I ...

Menopause Question With Explicit Personal TMI.Mar 12, 2015
Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.       Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them. I think I may have started menopause and have done some research on my symptoms.  Seems like dry tissues and URI are a symptom, of which I have had both.  Very rarely do I get URIs, but after this one was resolved  (I hope), seems like i have somewhat dry but itchy and somewhat achy ...

Any Suggestions For Natural Supplements For Menopause Symptoms?Nov 11, 2015
I'm 48 and started having weird periods about six months ago.  Kind of figured I was gearing up for menopause.  Ive had a couple of hot flashes, but and just irregular bleeding, but that's about it.  Well, I skipped my last couple of periods and thought great I'm done with periods.  Got my period a couple of days ago, and whew boy did I feel like crap.  I have been emotionally wrecked for two days - crying at the drop of a hat and I've just felt ...

This job can cause severe mental health problems.  I've been working at home for 12 years and the isolation has taken its toll on me.  That, in combination with meeting such high line counts my brain is always "racing".  I think I'm done with this profession for good.  Its just not worth it anymore.  Be careful not to fall into the depression that comes along with this job working at home and the anxiety that eventually builds up.  It is not healthy to be ...

Need To Talk About Mental IssuesApr 27, 2011
I don't even know where to begin.  Right now, I am in such pain and emotional turmoil, but I know it is many times worse for my son.  He has been diagnosed with autism (educational diagnosis) later changed to Asperger's, and the initial medical diagnosis was PDD-NOS with ADHD (at age 3).  He is now in 9th grade and life is miserable for our whole family.  I am coming to believe that he may actually have (either with the above or any combination of thi ...

Anyone Have Mental Illness In Their Family? May 02, 2012
My daughter seems to be bipolar.  I say seems because she has never gone for counseling and not officially diagnosed as such.  With that being said, we do have a strong history of mental illness in our family and I know it is hereditary.  My mother had major depressive disorder and was a "mess" all her life.  She attempted suicide numerous times and was not there for us at all when we were young.  I see these signs going on in my daughter, but maybe worse.  She is m ...

What's Your Mental Framework? Are You Dedicated To TruthJun 28, 2016
Most people today have absolutely no personal dedication to discovering what is TRUE, as opposed to what they are already predisposed to think. In fact, they are very highly defended against any facts that conflict with their view of the world. They impugn the source.  They slant or distort the data - and easily find other sources that have done so, always in favor of their own positions - while ignoring contradictory evidence.   They don't have the slightest idea how (or desire ...

Coping With Addiction/mental IllnessApr 27, 2015
My son and DIL recently went through a divorce. She has bipolar compounded by alcoholism and addictions to prescription and recreational drugs.
