Has anyone used Wild Yam for menopausal dryness and did not work or has anyone used Estrace Cream?  Thanks so much!

Depends on what you're concerned about exactly. Dryness and atrophy caused by menopause interfering with your sex life? If that's the issue and you have all vital organs, which I do, my doctor put me in Prempro and what a difference within 2 weeks to say the least. Lubricant only works for so long, and I do hear decent remarks about creams. Talk to your doctor. I was nervous about blood clots and all side effects for years, but now I'm so glad I took that chance and got on Prempro, plus I dropped 12 pounds within 2 months without changing diet because my hormones were so out of whack. This August will make 1 year I've been taking it daily and I love that medication....made a huge difference overall.

Thank you so much! - tootsie

Yes it is atrophy. I will ask about the Prempro.

Prempro was prescribed for me because I never had a hysterectomy, so I will not have breakthrough bleeding with this med since I am so-called fully intact organ wise lol. No side effects at all except weight loss, less anxious, no dryness, and to be frank, after 1-1/2 months, I can't get enough sex from my husband....I'm alive again sexually and always aroused easily..sorry to be so explicit but I went into early menopause at the age of 46 and now just turned 57. I feel sexy again!!

I think your frankness is refreshing. We are all in the medical field after all, lol. I think this is such helpful information. Have tried a few things here and there but nothing worked so... good job! Might help a lot of ladies. :)

Please, please be aware - that

Prempro is a product of pregnant mares urine. Think about what this means. Premarin: pre(pregnant)mar(mare)in(urine). Prempro is derived from the same ingredient.

Pregnant mares stand in pee lines having their urine collected for the making of this drug. Not only is the practice cruel, think about the by-product. A foal. Pregnant mares are not pregnant forever. What happens to this foal?

There is a rescue in Arizona that was started for the PMU horses (pregnant mares urine horses). They take the horses they can. A lot of the foals still go to slaughter.

I will NEVER take this drug. I just couldn't in good conscious know that my own comfort came at the expense of a living, breathing animal.

From the rescue:

The hormone replacement therapy PREMARIN (PREgnant MARes urINe) and other products such as PremPro and PremPhase are taken by millions of women every day. With recent news that these drugs have been medically proven to cause cancer, blood clots, and other harmful medical conditions in women, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals has cut production of Premarin by 50%. Although in the long run this is good news, currently there are 20,000 stallions, mares and foals without homes. Some are being rescued by individuals, some by non-profit groups, but the majority are sent to slaughter for human consumption.

For those pregnant PMU mares who still have their jobs, their days of suffering are far from over. They live each day in cramped stalls too small to even lie down, they are denied free access to water, standing for up to six months in a “pee-line” with rubber collection cups hooked tightly around their urethra. Once they have their foals, they are immediately impregnated and brought back to the “pee-line”. The foals are sent to auction, ultimately to slaughter, since they are a “by-product” of the industry. When the mares are too old to bear any more foals, they are then sent to auction, and like the foals, sent to the slaughterhouse.

Pleaseeee - Marie

Like my doctor said, be miserable with all menopause brings or go for a better way of life. I love animals, I eat meat, and I honestly don't care what any medication is made from if it gives me my life back, minus vaginal dryness and severe atrophy, agitation, hot flashes, fatigue, restless nights, anxiety, weight gain, etc. There will always be a product in this world that has brought harm to animals, the earth, nature. Let me guess, you've not had the wonderful pleasure (not) of experiencing this yet. OTC meds didn't phase me one bit, nor other prescriptions, so if Prempro works, bring on the criticism, but I feel like a woman again and I love it!!

Just like they torture horses by making them pull carriages in NYC, meat eaters require butchering of animals, makeup, but you have to choose your battle and only God can judge each of us!

going on 7 years post menopausal and have experienced ALL the miserable symptoms of dryness, hot flashes and sweats out of the blue, sleepless nights, depression, my latest is dry eyes. Poor me, I feel so bad sometimes.

BUT, I will never use any of the pregnant mare's urine drugs. Can't do it.

I take estradiol. It's cheap too. A 3-month - supply

is $10. I used to use Premarin but after I read about the abuse of horses and Premarin, I switched to estradiol. I feel great on estradiol.

seriously curiosity can be a bad thing - menopause at 39, totally asexual at 42

after reading all the positives on being prescribed prempro ... was considering talking to my doc about my problems (never discussed it) and prempro ... then someone spoke of pregnant mare's urine and got me googling.. for people who care, here is a link that shows how mares are treated poorly ... gave me the shudders .. am better being asexual . but as someone pointed .. to each her own

Going Through Menopause - When Will I Ever Get Through It?Dec 09, 2009
I am forgetful.  I am fatigued.  My perception is off.  When asked a question sometimes I know in my mind what to say, but then the wrong answer comes out my mouth, i.e. "is the elevator going up or down"  I would say going down, but in my mind I knew it was going up and that is what I thought I was saying until it comes out of my mouth as opposite. ...

How Do You Know If You Are Going Into Menopause?Jan 02, 2011
I'm 46 and I think it's too early for full menopause, but can you start going into premenopause much sooner?  What's the average age for that?  The reason I ask is that for the past year, I've been having some weird symptoms and am just now wondering if it has anything to do with hormones/menopause symptoms;  the worst of which was an episode where I woke up with the room spinning around me.  It was terrifying.  Then right afterwards I got really nau ...

I swear, about every 3-4 weeks or so, that's what it feels like.  In the exact same location, feels the same way, and I haven't had a period in almost a year but these cramps seem to come on regularly.    All original parts intact, nothing removed.  What a pain, no pun intended. ...

I guess it's time... Menopause is knock knock knocking on my door.  I cannot believe the symptoms that come along with this!  Hot flashes are bad enough, but dry skin, I don't heal like I used to and now a little cut or scrape will be a dark scar, unpredicable periods, dry mouth, fatigue and mood swings! Forgetfulness, can't concentrate...  The worst has got to be the fatigue.  I can't wake up in the mornings, but I can't fall to sleep at night!& ...

Menopause QuestionOct 05, 2015
I'd appreciate any insight: I have recently developed pain in my nither region. I thought yeast infection, got an OTC treatment with no relief. Made an appointment with my doc, but got a clean bill of health. The pain persists, doc ordered tests, ultrasound, all normal. He thinks dryness or perhaps the beginning of atrophy, said we could try hormones but I haven't decided on that.  Has anyone ever had this?  It's not excruciating, but it does hurt, like I got a hefty kic ...

What Is Happening To Me? Is It Menopause? Nov 30, 2015
though they are erratic, usually about 3 months apart at this point.  I feel like I am losing my mind....had an episode of vertigo a few weeks ago followed by extreme anxiety and nausea, wound up in the ER (and if you knew me you'd know I wouldn't even think of going unless I thought I were dying)....they found nothing wrong, sent me home on meclizine, which does nothing.  I still have this weird anxious/dizzy feeling that usually builds up over the day, getting worse until I ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

Menopause - Please Tell Me There Is Light At The End Of The TunnelMay 19, 2010
I have been transcribing for 32 years now, am 54 years old.  I started menopause 1-1/2 years ago (so I guess since they say you have to have missed a period for 1-full year that I am officially menopausal).  My world seems topsy turvy.  Is there light at the end of the tunnel.   I have tried working a second job for the past year off and on, but it has been too difficult to concentrate.  After 10 years of working from home, because of the slump in production decided ...

How Long Is This Menopause Thing Gonna Last?Nov 22, 2010
My LMP was almost 3 yrs ago.  Not too many hot flashes, about 3 a day, but the ones at night wake me up, so I don't get good sleep.  I'm 46 now, menarche at 10.  Saw an ob/gyn 3 ysa and said my LH and FSH were too low to be having any more periods.  Any info, this is just the pits.  Mood swings, swelling, weight gain, you know the gory details.  Tried soy pills and tofu/soy products, but made the hot flashes worse and will not use hormones.   I ...

Menopause Question With Explicit Personal TMI.Mar 12, 2015
Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.       Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them. I think I may have started menopause and have done some research on my symptoms.  Seems like dry tissues and URI are a symptom, of which I have had both.  Very rarely do I get URIs, but after this one was resolved  (I hope), seems like i have somewhat dry but itchy and somewhat achy ...

Any Suggestions For Natural Supplements For Menopause Symptoms?Nov 11, 2015
I'm 48 and started having weird periods about six months ago.  Kind of figured I was gearing up for menopause.  Ive had a couple of hot flashes, but and just irregular bleeding, but that's about it.  Well, I skipped my last couple of periods and thought great I'm done with periods.  Got my period a couple of days ago, and whew boy did I feel like crap.  I have been emotionally wrecked for two days - crying at the drop of a hat and I've just felt ...
