I was wondering (maybe more worried)

Posted: Apr 21, 2010

My father passed away this past week, he took his own life.  He was 75 years old and in bad physical shape and constant pain. His nightmare was that he would be put into a nursing home. He was a fiercely independent man living alone and was at the point of not being able to care for himself. He led a good life and was a very generous man with many friends. I am wondering about suicide in this case, what do you all think about what is going to happen to his Soul?  I really have no one to talk to about this as nobody in the family will discuss it.

Your father is being well taken care of - Please try not to worry

First of all, please let me say that I am so sorry to hear about your loss. But, the main thing to remember is that your father is no longer in pain, and that is a good thing.

I believe that your father is being taken care of very well on the other side. I believe that God (or whatever name you want to call him/her by, the higher power you believe in) is infinitely good and infinitely loving. And it would make absolutely no sense to me that God could or would love a person any less because they committed suicide. In fact, I believe that God gives people like this extra special care, because they were obviously in so much pain (whether physical or emotional) that they felt the only avenue open to them was to end their life here in this world.

Unfortunately, I have had a lot of deaths in my own family, including my husband just a few years ago at age 48 and also a cousin who just committed suicide at the age of 58 this past year. So please, if you ever need someone to talk to, please feel free to email me, anytime, okay? My heart goes out to you. It's always hardest on those of us who are left behind. But please try not to worry about your father because I am sure that he is being extremely well taken care of over there.

Thank you so much for these thoughts - Grieving

I am inclined to believe as you, but some family members are very angry about what he did and I guess got me questioning my own beliefs. I personally am not angry, only sad he is gone. I was the first one in the apartment and was relieved to see that he did not suffer and saw by the way things were left that he had made up his mind and was okay with his decision.

Don't worry - sent you an email with my thoughts - nm

You have given me much to think about and another way of looking at things. My father was not on any narcotic medication, only medication for hypertension. As I mentioned in answer to a post above, when I saw how he left things in his apartment I was satisfied that he had made his decision rationally and was okay with it, like he was ready to go. I have often thought about maybe we are here to learn and in each life we go a little further, but also wondered if suicide makes it so we have to come back and do it all over again? Your email got me thinking that maybe this was my father's path, indluding suicide, and that it may be part of his learning process. I cannot blame him for what he did considering the physical shape he was in. Like you said, there is no way to know anothers path and I take comfort in your words.

Nobody knows for sure - deb

Different people believe different things. It is one of those things you can never be sure of, and can't do anything about anyway, so try to let it go and don't dwell on it. (I would and will do the exact same thing if I'm ever in his condition.) I am sorry for your loss.

Anyone Worried About Xmas?Nov 14, 2009
I only have 3 paychecks left until Christmas and I am kind of bummed.  I have 3 small kids so that is where the money gets tight.  My mother in law told me not to get her anything this year, as with every other year.  This one year I took her up on that and didn't get her anything and I felt like just a creep when we all opened our gifts.  She got loads of stuff and we didn't get her anything.  She told me that I need to get over that feeling, but I cant!!!&nbs ...

However, as the Daily Caller reported in December, the First Amendment does not protect Morgan from possible deportation in this case. Wall Street Journal columnist James Taranto explained on Twitter December 22 the legal precedent that prevents Morgan from citing the First Amendment to protect his status in the United States: âYour opinion is protected, your presence in the U.S. is not. See Kleindienst v. Mandel (1972),â Taranto replied to Morgan. Read more: http://dailycalle ...

is trying to make us all economically equal by providing health insurance to those who have not been able to afford it?  Well, they have a long way to go.  Are you aware that the Walton family has as much wealth as the bottom 40% of the U.S. population?  How long do you think it will take to even that out?  Do you know that the top 20% of the population owns 90% of the country's wealth.  Think that's going to change because of Obamacare?  And please don ...

Dog Question. I'm Kind Of Worried About My Little Chihuahua (sm)Feb 21, 2015
He had 4 shots yesterday, usually it's just 2 or 3.  Obviously, he's sore, he even yelped when he got one of them.  He is sore today, but just not acting right.  He won't jump up to my lap, walking very slowly, not eating.  I did call the vet but he hasn't called back yet.  From what I've been reading on the net, it seems like that might be common, and as long as he drinks water,  he will be all right.  He is drinking water today if I p ...

I recently said on another board I was glad I did not have any friends because no one can say do it for the kids.  Well, when I talk about my anxiety and depression, I get very sick and tired of people saying it is because I do not have enough faith.  Believe me, I do.  Or I did anyway.  I have asked to be filled with the holy spirit.  I have begged for a miracle.  Not sure what else to do, but it is CHEMICAL.  Has nothing to do with faith.   Off soapbox ...

I saw him on TV and he looks so puffy!  Looks like he is having major PMS--you know--the shiny bags under the eyes and bloated face.  His family doctor, who is a gastroenterologist (who has a gastroenterologist for PCP?) said he is on statin and aspirin.  That would indicate cardiovascular problems, maybe congestive heart failure.   They say he woud be the oldest inaugurated president if elected.  Maybe his volatile emotions are tied to his age and physical condition? & ...

I Was Wondering What Phobias People Have. May 26, 2010
I just learned that I have a pretty severe bird phobia.  I knew I didn't "like" birds because as a child, I was chased around my house by a bird who was protecting her baby.  Ever since that, I never liked being close to birds or if a bird like flew above my head, I cringed and got nervous.  The other evening, the hubs and I were sitting watching TV.  All of a sudden, a bird came down our chimney and out our fireplace, and started flying wildly all over the living room.& ...

I mean, the man is half white, half black - so to regard him as being black is nothing BUT a choice, right?  Pick one from column A or one from column B - it's your CHOICE.  It is NOT factual to call Obama black, or to call him white for that matter.  But it does seem passing strange that no one in the press regards Obama as white.  Just by the laws of probability, you would expect that some would call him white and some would call him black.  I mean, if I showed 1 ...

No doubt they’ve tried to convince you that man didn’t really land on the moon or President Obama was born in Kenya. I Was Wondering What David Letterman ThoughtApr 01, 2015
Hoosiers are extremely proud, aren't they? By all accounts they have a lot to be proud of. Interesting that the response of famous Hoosiers to the gay discrimination law in Indiana has been almost exclusively that of horror of the direction Indiana is being steered and almost without exception condemnation of Governor Pence and his defense of this indefensible law. I enjoyed this clip from Letterman. "This is not the Indiana I remember as a kid," Letterman told the audience. "I lived th ...
