So you're worried that this administration

is trying to make us all economically equal by providing health insurance to those who have not been able to afford it?  Well, they have a long way to go.  Are you aware that the Walton family has as much wealth as the bottom 40% of the U.S. population?  How long do you think it will take to even that out?  Do you know that the top 20% of the population owns 90% of the country's wealth.  Think that's going to change because of Obamacare?  And please don't tell me they make charitable contributions.  Charity does not replace rightfully earned decent wages and benefits.

I agree. Please see message. - Libby

I have never understood how one's job is relevant to his/her healthcare insurance.

To me, it's like saying, work for me, and I'll replace your light bulbs for life!

These two things are separate in life. Health insurance, to me, should be comparable to mail delivery, since everyone gets it. It should be separate from everything else, and no one should be in jeopardy of losing it simply because of a job change, be it the result of choosing to quit or being fired. If that happens, then maybe a potential employer might be able to offer a potential employee more money (which, of course, with the enormous amount of greed in this country, that probably wouldn't happen).

I'm fine with the "capitalism game" being played in every other area of life, but when it comes to health, healthcare shouldn't depend on the number of dollars one has in his/her wallet. This is a life and death situation, not a contest to see which insurance company executives can get more millions of dollars they can "earn" by limiting or denying treatment to people who are seriously ill, and it doesn't matter if it's adults or children for whom they deny services.

At the very least, I think this is the most IMMORAL situation in this country, and it's about time someone changed the set-up to include all people, not just regardless of individual wealth -- just like mail delivery includes all people.

So go ahead and bash me!

Thank you! So well said. - No Bash Here/nm

What has always amazed me - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
about the right-wing is how they rant and rave about someone who might be cheating Medicaid by earning a few dollars too much but are oblivious to the fact that companies like Walmart underpay their employees, offer them substandard health care and leave the taxpayer to pick up the difference. This costs the country much more than the occasional welfare or Medicaid cheater.

I agree somewhat, however - Conservacrat

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not just the right wing ranting and raving about Medicaid abuse. I've seen democrats wanting to address this issue too. And it's not just "earning a few dollars too much". Its usually much more. But even then there has to be a stop, otherwise why even have that rule/regulation, just give everyone Medicaid and let them continue to make so much money when others are not and trying to survive.

The what I don't agree with is your statement about "right-wing" "oblivious to the fact that companies like Walmart...". The problem with that is that it never changes/gets better under democrats. Oh sure we're always promised lollipops and unicorns for everyone by the democrats, but the truth is they never do anything to fix the problem. Both sides have tried, but neither side will work with the other side.

I say take away the democrat/republican title. No more political parties. You don't get to carry that "D" or "R" after the end of your name. If they got rid of the parties and tried to solve problems maybe something would get done and problems would get solved. But they seem to like the country divided.

I've been a conservative half my life and a democrat half my life. I've voted for the same number of democrat presidents that I have for republican presidents and two times didn't vote because I didn't like either side.

I understand there are neocons, nazi's and communists in both parties. There are bad politicians in both parties, but there are also good politicians in both parties.

The democrats don't care any more for the little people like me no more than the republicans do. They don't care because all the rules and laws they make up for us they exempt themselves from.

With that said, the democrats are also oblivious to the fact that companies like Walmart underpay their employees or even that we as MTs are underpaid. They just don't care.
democrats/republicans - nana
[ In Reply To ..]
Then I guess the republicans are also oblivious to the fact that companies like Walmart underpay their employees because I don't see them trying to do anything for it. Aren't they against raising the minimum wage?

I agree completely with getting rid of both parties even though I don't think that will change anything but putting dem/repub agendas before the American people is repulsive and they all should be voted out, and I do mean all of them, good, bad or indifferent.

We all are aware that a lot of people are underpaid and I believe that is all part of the plan. Have you ever seen such huge company profits as we are seeing now? Why is that, because these huge companies contribute to their party with their special interest groups to keep our wages down so they can make more money.

Look in the Bible, you know about the golden cow, how people were worshipping objects and putting money before God. Well we are here again and I think we will all pay for that. JMO
I made a mistake in my post - Conservacrat
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't make it clear. What I meant was it's not just right wing that is oblivious. Both parties are. But it's not really oblivious. They just don't care.

I agree with everything else you wrote.

that we ignore the cheaters on public assistance, simply that the conservative side tends to dwell on the lower end of the economic spectrum when talking about budget cuts and reform. The government would also save money if companies like Walmart (and I mention them because they are the largest employer in the country) would pay their employees a decent wage they could get off the government dole.
As usual, so uninformed - Average Walmart salary
[ In Reply To ..]
Is over $12.00 + an hour (more than a lot MTS make).

Walmart gives employees a discount on purchases.

Until Obamacare, ALL employees were offered insurance coverage.

Walmart offers a PROFIT SHARING package to employees.

Walmart offers ALL promotions to managerial positions to ACTIVE EMPLOYEES FIRST, before hiring outside of the company.

Protesters at Walmart were PAID BY UNIONS from other sectors and businesses, not Walmart employees.

That is just a few of the benefits offered by them - there are a great deal more. If you actually spent time off this board gettting an education instead of embracing communist directives by the Dems you would be some much better informed. Otherwise, you are so fraught with misinformation, not credibility to your posts.
Walmart salary..... - bblue
[ In Reply To ..]
The first time I heard that Walmart workers were trying to get $15 an hour I could not believe it. I did, however, understand where that voice came from. That would be a union. It made me furious noting that the folks who work at Walmart are not only under educated, there jobs don't require the kind of knowledge or training to expect a salary like the $15 they are apparently wanting. Sickening. Although, my sister who is a nurse asked me once why do you get paid so much (that was back when we did make a lot). I asked her to sit down with me and I would show her a sample report, just one and asked her if she knew what was supposed to be there, et al. After that, she never asked again.
Getting an education OFF the board - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I just did some research and your $12 per hour is an AVERAGE of ALL employees including management. I'm assuming since you misrepresented your first fact, the others are probably also a misrepresentation.

The link I'm giving is not the link I used for my research to discover the average salary "fact," but is a fact sheet regarding how well Walmart employees are paid. There are many, many more which disprove your rah rah Walmart post.

Regarding getting an education OFF the board, just go into a Walmart and witness the morale of the employees. Too depressing. Enough said.
Thanks for the research you did and the (sm) - Libby

information you provided as a result of that research.
Well, my husband worked for Walmart - and this certainly was not true for him
[ In Reply To ..]
His pay was not bad, but he worked in a warehouse. According to the linked article below (The Guardian), 2/3rds of Walmart employees make less than $25,000, and most of the associates who work in the retail end do. Also, what about the fact that their schedules are known to be manipulated to prevent them from getting benefits and becoming full time employees. They have notoriously scheduled employees all over the place and always less than the hours required for full time status and benefits.

The insurance coverage offered by Walmart was terrible - worse than ours as MTs, in that yes again low premiums but no copays and a high deductible and everything out of pocket. A huge corporation like that has no excuse for not negotiating better insurance for their employees.

My husband said no one he knew could afford to participate in the profit sharing. It is similar to buying stock as an MT in your MTSO, I would never, not just because I don't like my MTSO, I just have no extra $.

Protesters at Walmart were Walmart employees, so I doubt they were paid by unions. Have you any proof of this? They might have had the support of unions, like they have the support of many of us in the public, but they were actually employees. Since you are so big on questioning the credibility of us "communists," perhaps an objective source (not the Heritage Foundation or Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck) substantiating the fact that the protesters were paid by unions?

Also, what say you to the good old American taxpayer subsidizing the low pay of Walmart?:

"Taxpayers were subsidising workers at just one Walmart superstore to the tune of almost $1m a year, in food stamps and other public-assistance programs, to make up for the less-than-subsistence wages they took home."

How is this okay with anyone who pays taxes, especially conservatives want taxes to be zero? If you are an MT you must know we are next to join the ranks of the slave waged and some of us are already there, so I am hardly in a mood to rah rah Walmart as a great company. It is leading the trend of low wages and govt welfare to subsidize their billionaire owners.

How can any conservative not have a problem with that?
I think you're confused. Profit-Sharing is not bought. It is given as a benefit - Nimby
[ In Reply To ..]
If a company makes a profit, they give a percentage to the employees. You don't BUY profit-sharing.

I think you're thinking of STOCKS. Walmart could be offering employees to BUY stock in their company. That's done, too, by other companies.

Well my husband never received a percentage - of anything - how does it work?
[ In Reply To ..]
He actually made more than $12 an hour, but he never received anything extra, just his salary and OT if he worked it.

Is it maybe only for those on the upper end or management because I can tell you he never received anything along these lines, and you know Walmart made a profit - he worked there for a couple of years.

for your misinformation. Average nonmanagement Walmart salary is $8.80/hour. They are the largest employer in the US and have the most workers on public assistance. They force full-time workers to part-time status so that they do not qualify for benefits. It is estimated that Walmart costs the taxpayers 1 billion dollars every year.

My source is "The Week" magazine which, incidentally, publishes both liberal and conservative points of view.
