I am wondering

if any of you have utilized Merry Maids to help with your household duties. If so, would you provide me feedback? I am considering this for a while until I get myself organized again, after a foot surgery, tax time, and working. I am feeling overwhelmed.

Cannot speak for Merry Maids specifically but I did use a service for a few months when I was feeling overwhelmed with work and kids, it was a lifesaver! Just had someone every couple of weeks to do the major cleaning, helped a lot!

I feel like I have to get my house cleaned up before I can even consider a cleaning service! (Not that I'm a candidate for Hoarders to show up at my door)

been diagnosed with allergies to just about everything and so we need to do a thorough house cleaning. Would love to have someone come and do it, however, would be totally embarrassed to have them walk in the door.

My experience with cleaning services - travelinmt

My first cleaning person was unbelievable, and when she stopped cleaning I could never find anyone who cleaned like she did. She was a neighbor, her son had severe asthma so working a regular job was out of the question as he missed alot of school. What she told me was the first house she ever cleaned taught her quickly to insist on looking at the house before accepting the job. This family had two teenage boys and she had to hang up 17 pair of levis before she could find the floor to vacuum. There was clutter and mess everywhere. So the things I learned from her were, if you straighten up and put all the clutter away before the person gets there they can do a much better job of "cleaning" in the time they are there. I always got a ration of you-know-what from my sons and my husband about cleaning the house before the maid came to clean. It took a while to get them to realize I was not cleaning but rather putting the daily clutter away where it belonged and giving her a clear shot at actually cleaning.

I had Merry Maids come to give me an estimate once, and I can't blame the company for this. It was a supervisor that came to do the estimate. I had put all the clutter away before she came and I could not believe what she did/said....LOL....this one was great!!! She went in my master bathroom and flushed my toilet and with this shocked look on her face she looked at me and said "Where is the ring in the toilet"? Like flushing the toilet would magically make it appear. LOL I didn't hire them.

I had them coming 3 days a week for a while. I loved them!

They rotated their 2-person crews. They deep cleaned one room each time they came which included baseboards, etc.

It was well worth the money.

my neighbor used (don't know if she still does use her). She charged her $80 but me $90, no clue why more for me as I had one less kid and our dogs were only allowed in the back 2 rooms where my neighbors run the house. Houses about the same size. But I decided to try her and see how I liked it as I just hate to clean and do not have time. The woman did not mop one floor (as she could not find the mop she said...umm in the utility room), did not bring any of her own cleaning supplies, nothing, did not inform me of this so a lot I wanted done did not get done. She organized a bit, cleaned the bathrooms (sinks,toilet), and vacuumed the carpets b ut that was about it. I felt ripped. Needless to say I have not called her back. I really don't have the extra cash for it anyway though. If my DH goes out of town for work though at some point maybe I can try someone else local and then just have them come in once a month or something, as I don't do a thorough cleaning that often now (about every 6 weeks). Kids home this week so I took a day "off" and the 3 of us worked together and got the house clean. Much easier with help for sure!

I am being alienated from my son by his horrible father. Divorced him 10 years ago and he has been pulling stunts since. I am just devastated of course. It has been almost a full year. My father passed away this past week, he took his own life. He was 75 years old and in bad physical shape and constant pain. His nightmare was that he would be put into a nursing home. I recently said on another board I was glad I did not have any friends because no one can say do it for the kids. without making a mess?!?!?
