Welcome back Mr. President

Posted: Jan 27, 2010

Biggest laugh was when he schooled the so-called 'financial conservatives' about what a budget is... how implemented.

...and how he reminded this same so-called financial conservative party - where the defiicit numbers stood before he 'even walked through the door.'

This is the same group that helped George W practically bankrupt U.S. in order to finance wars based on lies, while doling our tax breaks for the rich and allowing the real estate investment fiasco to flourish.

Anyone who thought Bush's messes would be cleaned up in one year were naive - regardless of who succeeded him.

;

Chris Matthews/MSNBC - LOL

Smoke this....

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You know, I was trying to think about who he was tonight, and it's interesting: He is post-racial by all appearances. You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour. You know, he's gone a long way to become a leader of this country and passed so much history in just a year or two.

Hypocrites = Liberals

I admit I was impressed with a few things, but - sigh

[ In Reply To ..]
it basically came down to the same old promises to me.

Once again, the job issue is THE issue. Wasn't that what he said last year?

Again, though, I admit he is a very personable fellow and I see how you can easily be drawn in. I personally wait for the results of the hype, and this first year did not do much for my opinion of the big O.

Do you have any idea what you are trying to say? - Huh? sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Did you happen to catch the town hall Matthews did on MLK Day at Texas Southern University...an all black college, locally known for it's political activism? You may remember that he, the new LGBT Mayor-Elect of Houston and maybe a dozen or so whites were outnumbered by the black audience members by maybe 100-1?

He did an excellent job in moderating that event. His message about experiencing a post racial moment in history (SOTU speech) and sensing an absence of racial tribalism is easily understood by folks who are not racist.

Don't try to play a race card without a deck.

Sorry, but the man is like a bad dream, and you cant - blame THAT on Bush.. debt, debt,

[ In Reply To ..]
triple that debt! That is all Obama knows how to do. And, you are so misguided. This garbage about tax breaks to the rich. Honey, the rich pay 90 pct of the taxes as it is, and this is coming from someone who is NOT rich. You wanna see naive, go look in the mirror. Obama has not a clue what he is doing, which is why he keeps refocusing and hoping America will finally raise his approval ratings instead of continuing to lower them. He cant stay on one issue long enough to solve it. He does not seem to even know there are actually terrorists who want to KILL us, for Gods sake! We need a leader, and I would even take Biden at this point. -at least he knows about Natl Security and its importance.

I agree - it was a disaster tonight - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
We definitely are missing a leader. What I heard tonight was a lawyer talking. Not a leader. He lectured everyone (if he's anything like this at home, man do I feel his kids pain) LOL. He lectured everyone and took no responsibility for anything. And with all that's going on right now with his b.c. and the supreme court, if I was him they would be the last people I'd be lecturing. What I heard was his campaign speech regurgitated all over again. Promising to do this or that. And then the delusional ideas that he has done all these wonderful things (cut taxes, etc). The guy just makes things up as he goes along. Just because he says them doesn't mean they are true. I even saw one of the Supreme Court judges shaking his head at something he said.

It was a disaster for sure.

Yes, a Supreme Court Justice was mouthing "not true" - at something O said. He is on his way

[ In Reply To ..]
to losing respect from all sides and all appointments. Lecturing everyone and taking blame for nothing himself shows what a coward he really is. He acts as if he is campaigning again, saying what he thinks we want to hear scolding the big bad guys, yet what does he ever do himself to improve any problem? Unemployment still rising, Gitmo still open, Natl Security in question, and earmarks.. OMG that one killed me. He is the KING of earmarks and acts as if he is going to cut them. The guy is a great fake. I used to think he was a great speaker, but cannot stand listening to his rhetoric anymore. I think I'd rather hear Biden.. lol
If you were actually listening to the speech, then you would have known . . . - really?
[ In Reply To ..]
what is was he said that so visibly upset Judge Alito. That is, unless of course, YOU agree with the Supreme Court decision to reverse a 100-year law of limiting big corporations to "buy" seats in the Congress. O made no bones about the fact that he is not happy with that decison, and I say, "Way to go, O", and I agree 100% with him!! I guess you're okay with corporate America influencing policy (even more) in this country. Really?
What I am NOT okay with is Obama acting as a dictator - He serves US, not the other way around
[ In Reply To ..]
He lectures and scolds everyone. He makes a LOT of us sick. It is very hard to watch this artificial leader make constant teleprompter speeches, which, btw, are just speeches. He rarely does what he says he is going to... a waste of time to pay much attention anymore.
I agree. Waste of time to pay much attention here. - T-bag speak.. Translation needed. nm

Really? I missed that lip reading wisdom. I saw body language - saying quite the opposite. sm

You and they may wish they still had respect. Fact is the decision was wrong for all Americans from all parties interesed in preserving the integrity of democratic process.

He said, "I take my share of the blame" clear as a bell. Define lecturing everyone please. Coward and fake spews and ill informed babble not worth noting.

Obama thoroughly covered his bases in measured increments with commanding and reassuring presence of mind and from a position of strength, not weakness. His priorities and even the order in which he presented them was right on, and would explain why he struck a nerve that illicited spasms of name-calling, canned camp rhetoric from his opposition.

at something he said? I guess you didn't really listen...sm - oldtimer

[ In Reply To ..]
very carefully. If you did you would have heard him disagreeing with the Supreme Court decision last week to eliminate a 100-year-old law which limited the donations of large corporations and unions to political campaigns. I think that most of us no matter the party would agree with the president on this one. Is there not one single thing this president can do or say where you would not disagree with him?

Everyone also needs to remember that it took a long time to get us in the situation we are in now and it is going to take way more than a year to get us on an even keel again. I think that attitude also has a lot to do with the speed of our recovery too. Also, if we recover too fast and get reckless and cocky we could realistically take one or more dips along the road to recovery. These are just my humble opinions.
Humble is good, and wise. Thanks OT for a fair analysis. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
for saying during one of those town hall meetings that he thought some of the lower-paying jobs going overseas was "probably a good thing." That we all needed to be retrained anyway in other thinks like wind turbines. HELLO! That is US...the U.S. MT's! Not to mention the countless people who have lost their jobs to offshoring long before us. Then he has the nerve to keep pushing for no tax breaks for companies who offshore. Which side is he really on....

What made you think he meant MTs? - EMR provision in HCR would argue otherwise.

[ In Reply To ..]
In fact, it would seem that EMR policy implementation would result in overseas outsourced jobs loss and bring them back within national borders. EMRs are entered on site, whether it be via VR, ASR or live MTs. The plan is designed to improve efficiency and cut costs. The EMR train left the station long before Obama took office and there is no return ticket anywhere in sight. Issues with outsourcing belong where they have always been, between MTs and MTSOs.

Did you catch the part of the speech allowing tax breaks to companies who outsource to sunset, thus making it less profitable and discouraging the practice? How about tax cuts, incentives and funding for small businesses to stimulate jobs growth stateside? Those measures and their benefits cannot be outsourced. This indicates he is well aware of outsourcing and its impact on domestic jobs loss.

How about credit where credit is due? Allowing offshore drilling ban to expire is a CONCESSION to the GOP and flies in the face of environmentalists and left-leaning factions of his base. Why should he give them tax breaks to boot? Big oil, along with big banks, big insureres and other giant corporate conglomerates, want their equal share of so-called freedom of speech and the benefits of funneling billions and billions into democratic process. Why should they not also be required to pay their fair share of taxes like the rest of us living, breathing human beings?

it is sad, but I have to agree on this. O is still - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
tragically inexperienced. Now he realized that he has to toughen up, but he does not know how go do it, and others move on.

Welcome back? Seriously, there was no difference in his speech given last night (sm) - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
than his speeches during his campaign. He was so sarcastic and arrogant at times last night that it was sickening. As usual he points the finger and blames others. In one part of the speech and did what his administration does best, blame the Bush administration for everything and yet in another part of his speech he makes the statement (referring to the screw up by Homeland Security and others for the Christmas Day fiasco)that he does not want to delve in the past. As long as it is blaming someone else then he will stay in the past but not when it is someone within his own administration.

There were definitely parts of his speech that I was impressed with; however, it needs to be put into action. He is famous for saying one thing in a speech and then going in the complete opposite direction, one reason why so many with the far left have been upset at him.

Again, if he actually does the things that he stated last night and forces the issues on BOTH sides to work together, then I will have an all new respect for him, but I am not holding my breath.

Beg to differ. This was no campaign stump. - Not by a long shot.

[ In Reply To ..]
If you go looking for sarcasm and arrogance instead of substantive fair assessment, definition, problem identification, goals, plans and execution strategies, chances are that is all you would hear.

Obama has evolved beyond finger-pointing and blame games and addressed those tactics head on when presenting his case for bipartisan responsibility to break the legislative log jams. FACT: Bush left a trillion dollar deficit behind, which Obma appropriately pointed out at the beginning of his economic initiatives discussion. Impossible to talk about current deficit without defining it. He did not extrapolate beyond that.

TRANSLATION: Not wanting to delve into the past implicitly addresses finger-pointing and blame and his adversion to it. You must have been hearing voices at some point judging from the content of your parentheses (HL Security/Christmas day "fiasco"...a reference no one else heard)or you would realize those remarks were aimed at future solutions and improvements to national security.

Party of NO! ownership for responsible negotiations in good faith was rightfully explored, but not NEARLY as much as it should have been, and solutions were presented. Obstructive tactics of the arms-folding, applause- withholding, stay-in-their-seats, scowling-faced school-yard bullies section clearly demonstrate who is at the root of that problem. That body language will be clear as day in the fall if the GOP does not step up and do their jobs between now and then.

Talk is cheap. I no longer believe anything O says. - ..and the debt he has put this country

[ In Reply To ..]
in to may NEVER be recoverable. I wish he would resign for the better of the USA. He is a tragic mistake.

I could not have said it better. O touches BIG - sm

issues with 1 sentence that makes us listen up - oh, here it comes, something new - and then he moves right on, leaving the whole issue "hanging in the air." I am referring to "offshoring, the Middle East, banks, jobs, etc..."

It's pretty clear from your post - smokethis

[ In Reply To ..]
That you might be hard of hearing.

Not only did he NOT "blame everything on Bush" he went OUT of his way to take blame for much AND to include both parties in criticism.

I doubt you will be honest enough to admit this - but BUSH NEVER took responsibility for his -ups until the very end of his sad and sick second term.

And Obama is NOT 'famous' for saying one thing and doing another - at worst he is guilty of not communicating his agenda and actions better so that some of the more intellectually challenged citizens would have something to balance out the SPEW emanating from the right.

OMG! you must have been watching another speech. - He is so wishy-washy, trying to

[ In Reply To ..]
please all sides and only ticking off all sides. He shows he is no leader by not standing as a leader. We would be better off if he would just step down and let the VP take over. I doubt Biden would call the police stupid, guarantee a Gitmo closing date, or scold the Supreme Court in front of the nation. Obama criticized McCain for wanting a budget freeze, now does the same thing. ... list goes on and on.

It was the first time the Fed has given details about banks that borrowed from the central bank's oldest emergency-lending facility. Thursday's move was forced by lawsuits filed by B ...
