only to find none at all on the shelves. "WTF?" I'm thinking. Maybe I had somehow ended up in the Twilight Zone.
At the 6th store I went to, I asked what the deal was with Excedrin. Where was it?
Nobody knew or could give me an answer.
So I come home and type "Excedrin" into Google, and was shocked to learn that it's been recalled! (Along with 2 other, can't-do-without staples, No-Doz and Gas-X).
Apparently it was recalled a month ago (something about the tiny chance there may have been a more potent medication accidentally mixed in to 1 bottle, somewhere out there in the universe). I can't understand why this is the first I'm hearing about this.
Even stranger, there seems to have been on communication from the drug maker, Novartis, since then. People who depend on Excedrin Migraine or Extra-Strength (like I do!) want to know when it's going to be back on the shelves, and no one has even a guess, let alone a real answer.
When I was in Safeway this evening, a couple near me was saying, "Where the heck is the Excedrin?" I said, "You're looking for it too? This is the 3rd store I've been to, and for some reason I can't find it." The other store they'd looked at was K-Mart. I'd looked at Rite-Aid, Lucky, Grocery Outlet, Food-Maxx, Safeway, and the local mom 'n' pop market in my town. NOTHING.
So now, that I'm out of Excedrin, next time I wake up with a pounding headache (not a migraine - I have Imitrex for that, but for me, Imitrex ONLY works on migraines, and not regular, run-of-the-mill headaches that can be just as bothersome and disabling.) With Excedrin, I can take 2 with a glass of milk, head out the door, and within half an hour I'm fine. Without it, I'm f_____d, and will end up having to come home and go back to bed, because everything else out there doesn't work. I've tried "mixing my own" in the past, by taking aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine, but can never get it in the right dose, and for some reason the home-made combo never works.
Gee, thanks a LOT, Novartis! I hope your stock prices totally TANK.
