Need help salvaging a gift

Posted: Dec 20, 2014

I had ordered 2 customized luggage tags from Zazzle.com.  The printed image is in between 2 pieces of acrylic.  Unfortunately, they mixed up the addresses on the backs of 2 of them and they have not gotten back to me yet.  If I do not hear from them Monday, I will be contacting my credit card company about the charges.

What I am curious about is how to go about separating the acrylic, switching out the wrong information and then getting it to adhere together again.  Does anyone know how to do this?

Don't try to fix it yourself. - clyde

If you try to fix it yourself, you will lose your money and the company doesn't have to fix the problem. Contact the company by phone, if possible, on Monday and ask them to send you the correct merchandise. In the past, when similar things have happened to me, I've had to send a picture of the product along with a picture of the package (so they can track the order). Usually, companies are very good at correcting their mistakes quickly.

Due to it being a personalized order, they'll probably let you keep the merchandise, and you can gift these wrong luggage tags with a note stating that the company made the error but they are correcting it and you will send the correct gift to them as soon as you receive it.

If I here from them, I can say that, unfortunately--sm - anon

when attempting to call, the machine says their service lines are down. The customer service email includes a place for attaching photos which I have done but still have not heard back. I have put on their facebook page if I do not hear anything, then I will be contacting the credit card company. Fortunately, those receiving the gift will not be here until the 27th but I need to hear something soon. The company has a 100% satisfaction guaranty which appears to be worthless at this time if they do not respond. It is a shame as there are some wonderful things on their site and the luggage tags look great except for the misprint of information.

*hear* from them, egads--sm - anon

I did want to say that is a good idea about letting the recipient know it is being corrected and going about it that way.

This is SATURDAY ... give them a chance, please! - Sheesh!

[ In Reply To ..]
You are leaping to the conclusion that they are not going to provide good customer service because they have not had a chance to answer yet ON SATURDAY? When their phone lines are available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., M - F, and email 6 - 9 M - F. Really?

You also posted a threat on their facebook page and think that is going to help? Who would want to help you faster after that?

This is an unfortunate error, not an emergency. Your holiday will only be ruined by this if you choose so. Your guests are coming to see YOU, not to get a $10.95 luggage tag. They won't care, unless you choose to be in an angry, unreasonable mood over this trivial situation.

You can wait until Monday to phone them. If replacements cannot arrive in time, just give them the ones you have with an explanation. Or, give them something else and ask Zazzle for a refund.

Whatever you do, do not give them pried-apart and reglued tags.

Forgive me for not making myself clear--sm - anon

The emails I sent to them were during the week, during their stated business hours. The phone call I placed, was during their business hours during the week. I have waited over a week now for correction of the problem. Some companies are more willing to help if they feel their reputation is at stake, but after visiting their facebook page, I learned that many people have been having problems. I do not feel I am jumping the gun and found the message of "our service lines are down" to be rather alarming.

Going Away GiftJun 01, 2010
What do you give to someone as a going-away gift that you've only known for five months?  She's a very nice person.  We didn't spend a whole lot of time together, mostly just at school functions, and a couple of times outside of that, for coffee, but with a group, not just her and me.  Is it even appropriate that I get her a little something?  I've been invited to a little going-away luncheon for her tomorrow and I don't have any idea.  Flowers m ...

Worst Gift Ever?Dec 06, 2010
I got this from another board and it was actually funny to read. When we got married 18 years ago we got a plunger from my mom's friend thou she did get us another gift also that one was just funny. We got margaritia glasses and neither us were old enough to drink either. I used those for dessert glasses for a bit but ended up over time breaking them. I can't think of any really really bad gifts but those 2 stick out in my mind for some reason. So what has been yours? ...

A Husband's GiftFeb 28, 2010
Dear Diary, For my birthday this year, my husband purchased for me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. Friends seemed plea ...

Graduation GiftMay 16, 2013
Need help, don't want to give cold cash for college grad. It seems cards like AMEX, etc. have hidden fees when used. Also, what do you consider appropriate for a BS degree? Have several others coming up after this one and expect each higher degree should be a little more than the high school or junior college. Kind of stumped here, lots of different levels of graduation coming at once in the next 3-4 years. Just want to be fair. Thanks. ...

Ten-year Anniversary Gift Nov 11, 2009
In December, my significant other (BF sounds so young) and I will have been together 10 years.  We are both 51 and basically get anything we want when we want it.  He is not the type to wear jewelry except his college ring and a watch (which I got him 5 years ago) and he has anything and everything for his favorite college team.  I was thinking about doing a collage of pictures from the trips we have taken in our 10 years together in a nice picture frame, but not sure.  He is ...

Holiday Gift GivingNov 08, 2011
ONE GREAT IDEA!!! Christmas & Chanukah 2011 -- Birth of a New TraditionAs the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at giftgiving time, nothing can be found that is produced by A ...

Strange Dentist GiftJul 21, 2010
So-- I'm in the dentist's chair all afternoon, having $2000 worth of work done. At the end, he asks me what kind of milkshake I would like from the restaurant chain down the street. I say no thanks. He says, Please, my treat, I insist! How could anyone say no! So I say vanilla. And he sends his assistant, who brings me back a giant chocolate milkshake. Which is the last thing I feel like eating, but I take it, to be polite. And give it to a family member. Who wants something frozen tou ...

Charity Donation As GiftNov 21, 2012
My son has been volunteering for a charitable organization and all he really wants for Christmas is to have the money which would be spent on him donated to the organization.  I am happy to do that, but I would like to have a way to present the donation to him as a gift so he will have something to open along with everyone else.  Does anyone have any unique ideas of gifting such a thing?  Thanks in advance!  ...

White Elephant Gift ExchangeDec 09, 2011
We are invited to a white elephant party this weekend. Have never gone to one before. I did a search and it seems like people like to do funny gifts. I'm not that clever and my husband suggested we give a wine rack (wood top and bottom with black metal center - holds nine bottles) that we were going to send to Goodwill. At a party last weekend the host told us that last year one of the single guys (first timer) gave an expensive painting. So they were joking that the person who g ...

Nonclutter Gift Ideas For A 6 YO Girl?Dec 07, 2011
I would like to get a friend's 6-year-old daughter something, but their house is small, and the grandparents tend to give quite a bit. Any ideas that will not cause more clutter? For example, for an adult, I could give cookie ingredients in a jar. Adult makes the cookies, tosses or donates the jar, eats the cookies, no clutter left over (except on the hips maybe). This is such a creative group, I'm hoping you can help. Thanks! ...

Has Anyone Ever Had Parents Take Back A Christmas Gift?Feb 14, 2013
My husband and I do not get along with my stepdad.  He is greedy and just a terrible person.  Too much to go into.  We had words with him.  Anyways, he decided he would take back a Christmas gift that was from my mom and him last year.  It was an outside TV antenna.  He said it was his and he was taking it back.  I thought when you gave someone a gift it was theirs?  I just said ok whatever.   ...

Unique Christmas Gift IdeasDec 03, 2013
We all could use some unique gift ideas. If you have a special person that loves gourmet food and unique kitchen gifts, La Tienda (tienda.com) is a great idea. NO, I have no affiliation, but we have special friends who love gourmet food and such. The place isn't cheap, so it is not something we do every day, but we do buy from them every Christmas. The food is delicious--Spanish cuisine--as in Spain, Spain over in Europe. A lot of it does not have to be cold-packed, so there's plenty o ...

Just Received A Great Gift That I Had No Idea Jan 04, 2014
I love to listen to audiobooks on MP3 players that I get from the library, but as I had pretty much gone through the selection at the library, I was going to buy a portable CD player to wear while I cook, do chores, etc. For my anniversary, my husband bought me a Sansa Clip Zip MP3 and I can download books through our library website and there are about 3000 titles, so I will have a lot of happy hours of listening. I had no idea that even existed! I'm so thrilled. If you like to listen ...

Need Ideas For A Non-alcohol Hostess GiftMay 14, 2015

Need Idea For Get Well Gift For High School Girl....Nov 20, 2009
My son, who is in his mid 20s, is assistant coach for the high school girls' soccer team.  The young lady, who is team captain, has injured her ACL severely and probably won't be playing anymore but shows up for every game of course.  They all are getting her a little  inexpensive "get well" to give her tonight.  My son has no earthly idea what to get her and frankly, neither do I.  He wants to keep the  gift very generic, so as to not let the young lady g ...

Buying Potted Herbs For Christmas GiftNov 24, 2009
My hubby is really hard to buy for. He is the cook in the family and uses lots of herbs, usually buying them in the store in the vegetable section, not the dried variety. Husbands Best Friends Son Is Turning 2. We Need Gift Ideas. Jun 04, 2011
This friends family has always treated my husband like one of their own, so it is sort of like an uncle finding a gift for his nephew.  It has been 30 years since we had a 2 year old so we are feeling challenged about what to get.  This is family #2 for the dad and mom who are ages 51 and 49 and both have children out of college.  He is an only child of two avid shopaholics, so needless to say he has been indulged and spoiled since day one.  What do you get for the ...
