African trip - xx

he surely does. how many vacations for the kiddies and wife now? too numerous to count. can't provide hot meals for our military or let school kids tour the WH but an all expense paid trip to Africa heck yeah! Hope they keep his a** there!

It is the REPUBLICANS who stopped the WH - sm

tours with their ridiculous "sequester."

So write to YOUR representatives and maybe he/she/they will put those tours back in practice as fast as Congress was able to act when it involved airplanes and plane travel.

But will it stop those in power from spending all our money - on lavish trips? I think not.

going to fix anything. You need to write to your U.S. Senator and Representative and let them know how you feel if you actually want to achieve something.

But just using it as another punching bag against Obama won't change a thing, unless, of course, that was the purpose in your writing it to begin with.

The President stopped the tours, not the Republicans - Truthhurts

The sequester was Obama's idea, and that he swore to block any attempts to stop it is undeniable. The White House’s idea was based on language from the 1985 Gramm-Rudman-Hollings deficit-reduction act. The sequester was the idea of then-Office of Management and Budget Director Jacob Lew and White House Director of Legislative Affairs Rob Nabors. Boehner said, “No one is saying President Obama—or Jack Lew—invented it. The point is that they insisted it be included in the Budget Control Act, because they didn’t want to face another debate over the debt limit before the president's reelection.”

Obama keeps bragging about how he cut $1.2 trillion from the debt but that’s only because of sequestration and the Budget Control Act of 2011 forced it. The Republicans were burned by the Democrats too many times when needing an increase in the debt ceiling and equal spending cuts, the spending cuts never took place. so they weren’t going to take that chance again. They offered the President a compromise but Obama ruled that out. When sequestration went into effect, the President hit back with cutting those items that would really hurt we Americans like the White House Tours, the Air Traffic Controllers, the Easter Egg Hunt, just about anything that had to do with regular people.

So, just what part of "the sequestration was Obama's idea" is so hard to understand? Obama initiated it, hoping it would be more of a threat that would force Republicans in Congress to roll over, but they didn’t. They stood on principal, wanting spending CUTS, which still hasn’t happened yet.

BTW, is Obama worried about spending? Doesn’t seem like it in view of the African trip being planned. That’s another post next. Sequestration isn’t hurting his trips. It’s a shame the Republicans never realized how much they could have hit the spending cut goal if they just cut out some of his fund raising and vacation flights since those alone cost $150K an hour.
Do you have any links to support the "idea" that - Libby

the sequester was Obama's idea? I've been watching this closely, and it's clear to me that the republicans wanted this to happen, not Obama.

Please provide a supporting link to this allegation.

"But this line of thinking omits an important fact: Without Tea Party-fueled deficit hysteria, there would be no debt ceiling crisis--let alone a sequester."

figure out the full cost yet because details are classified due to security, but it will cost between $60-$100 million.

Will Michelle and the rest of the family, plus cousins and/or aunts and uncles be going? If so, there will be separate planes, etc.

This is part of a 3-page article.

Many details about foreign presidential trips are classified for national security reasons, and there is little public information about overall costs. A report from the Government Accountability Office found that Clinton’s 1998 trip to six African nations cost the U.S. government at least $42.7 million. Most of that was incurred by the military, which made 98 airlift missions to transport personnel and vehicles, and set up temporary medical evacuation units in five countries.

That figure did not include costs borne by the Secret Service, which were considered classified.

The first lady, who toured South Africa and Botswana without the president in 2011, will headline some events on her own during the week. The stops will add to the logistical challenges, because she will require her own security detail and vehicles, the planning document shows.

The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counterassault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document.

But officials said Thursday that the safari had been canceled in favor of a trip to Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.

I am not against them doing this trip as most Presidents do go to Africa some time during their presidency on official business but with Africa in such turmoil, I wonder why he decided to visit now. It’s really too dangerous for him to be there.

Trump Ends Obama's African Ebola Amnesty.Apr 26, 2017
administration is eliminating one of Barack Obama’s many outrageous amnesty initiatives, this one involving illegal immigrants from African countries affected by the Ebola virus a few years ago. Launched in 2014, the Ebola reprieve was issued separately—and quietly—via a Temporary Protected Statu ...

My Kids Just Left For A TripAug 01, 2014
