Politics Of Offense And Offense-TakingSep 21, 2013
Here in Georgia, a drive in any direction takes one past these "personal statements." Some people insist it's all about nostalgia, nothing to do with slavery, or even black people. For others, it's intensely political. Brad Paisley and the Politics of Offense and Offense-Taking What he still doesn't get: Wearing the Confederate flag is far worse than "offensive." Yet Another Thread About Reading :-)Mar 18, 2012
Obviously a lot of us love to read!   My question for everyone is do you keep a list of the books you have read?   I started doing this about 2 years ago because one of my kids came home from school saying that in class that day the teacher was talking about reading and said that she had heard a statistic that the average person reads 300 books in their lifetime.  Knowing me, my son heartily disagreed with that statement and said I probably read 300 books each year.   T ...

Hanging By A ThreadApr 22, 2016
Please, if anyone has ideas for no-to-low-stress types of jobs, post them here.  I am to the point I can barely function.  The MT industry has been stressful for me since I started nearly a decade ago (for all the reasons you are familiar with) and with a company acquisition and new software, new client (to the company with the lack of proper specs, mixed feedback), expander issues, extensive time spent while not working trying to make sense of it all and gain some sort of control, and ...

NAFTA (from Fox News Thread)Sep 27, 2011
The thread about Fox News talking about jobs overseas has turned political.  One person somewhat erroneously credited Clinton with being responsible for NAFTA.  While he signed it into law, NAFTA has its origins in Ronald Reagan's Trade and Tariff Act, which allows the President to negotiate trade, with Congress unable to do anything.  The TTA allowed Bush (Sr) negotiate with Mexico and Canada to alleviate tariff burdens.  NAFTA was underway well before Clinton sign ...

The 11:11 Phenomenon, I Don't Get It. I'm Starting A New ThreadMay 21, 2010
because the one below sort got hijacked or should I say "invaded" by aliens from outer space.  LOL! Anyway, I had never heard of this phenomenon, so when OP posted about I googled it of course and I just don't get it, I guess.  What does it all mean really, that a lot of people all look at the clock at the exact same time a day or that once you become aware of 11, you see it everywhere?  If it is a true phenomenon, then what is the point?  Why have everyone become aware ...

So No Thread About The Dog Whistle From TrumpAug 10, 2016
What, you didn't hear? In a speech yesterday when he kind of implied that if Hillary gets to choose her judges those "second amendment people" should do something about it? Oh, I know, he didn't mean that, it was just a joke, etc., ad nauseam. He is just the worst candidate to ever run for president. He has absolutely NO statesmanship, no demonstration of any thought whatsoever when he runs his dumb mouth off. From "The Resurgent" (not a rag I usually read because it is actually a s ...

Bringing Up Thread About Internet From Down BelowMar 24, 2014
Pretty busy thread down there and I didn't want this info to go to waste. Count former President Bill Clinton among those who are skeptical of the new Obama administration plan to give up Internet oversight authority. At a weekend meeting sponsored by the Clinton Global Initiative, the former president talked in detail about why the U.S. should retain oversight over Internet domain names and addresses. “A lot of people … have been trying to take this ...

Not About Politics At All But I'll Be We Can AllAug 02, 2012
agree that no matter the party we all love to see our athletes competing in the Olympics, including Ann Romney's horse.  I was wondering what others here would say was their favorite part of the Olympics.  I love watching all the competitions but my absolute favoite is at a US Gold medal ceremony when they play the National Anthem.  Canada is also my very close neighbor and "Oh Canada" is a favorite too when the Canadians win. ...

Not Racist But Really?Jan 10, 2013
I am a person who watches the news on TV be it the local news or the nightly news always. I am bothered by the people my local channel chooses to interview for the stories in Atlanta. I do not know where they get most because they cannot speak anything that sounds like your basic English, dat, dem and dos. It is hard on my ears. I was flying 1 time and had a person talk about the lack of intelligent black people in Atlanta because of what he had seen on TV. The news here actually shows our city ...

From a friend... ATTN: Trump dies in Jerusalem Donald Trump-45 passed away on a fact-finding visit to Israel. While he was on a tour of Jerusalem he suffered a heart attack and died. The undertaker told the American Diplomats accompanying him, 'We can have him shipped home for $50,000, or you can bury him here, in the Holy Land for just $100." The American Diplomats huddled in a corner and discussed their options for a few minutes. They came back to the undertaker and told him that th ...

Anyone Taking Fish Oil? How Much Is Too Much?Jan 11, 2011
Anyone know about fish oil?  I have been taking it 2 gm a day for awhile, but been reading about autoimmune issues and inflammation.  A book on a Paleo diet suggests 15 gm a day to help with inflammation and this just seems like a lot.  I have gone up to 3 tid and feel better, but afraid to go higher.  Anybody taking this much?  I also take vit D and magnesium 200 bid and nothing else. ...

Just Taking A Moment....Sep 11, 2012
Remembering that day when our world changed.... a day when political party, race and creed didn't matter, a national tragedy in which all Americans came together and mourned as one.  Remembering the people who lost their lives and their relatives and loved ones whose world will never be the same.  Taking a moment in silence.... Never forgetting.  ...

Wonder What You All Think Of This. Taking More And More Of Our Rights AwayApr 14, 2015
Can we try to keep this civil and have a conversation about our basic constitutional rights without needing our hard hats please. I personally do not like guns, don't own guns and never will, but I don't want the government taking the rights away of law-abiding citizens to own guns if that is their choice. Governemnt is getting way to big and I don't want them in my house, church or bedroom. I do like what this judge says though. If this is true this is scary that police c ...

Starting New Thread On Health Care DebateJan 05, 2012
Previous thread getting too indented and confusing.  The thread began with the question "If you are against Obama health care law, who should pay for the uninsured?"  It boils down to either the individual is required to pay or the taxpayer will pay.  We have lots of personal anecdotes and generalized "should" statements, grievances against the government and vague "individual basis" which means, I guess, do nothing.  I came away with the opinion that conservatives are saying ...

The Tolerance Thread/response/re Byrd/one PersonMar 19, 2013
It seems to have disappeared.  I'm not going to inquire about why it's gone, but I did want to repost my reply regarding associating modern-day Democrats with Byrd and the fact that there was only one person caught making a statement on tape.  --Byrd  was over 40 years ago. Surely we can't use Robert Byrd and other racist Southern Democrats circa pre-1960s as examples of who modern day Democrats identify with, no more than we could use Lincoln as a modern day R ...

The Gay Obama Thread Is Gone But The Limbaugh Prezdant PowahMay 27, 2013
With all due respect, Moderator, I don't see the consistency here. especially since the Gay Obama thread actually evolved into a political discussion and was pretty civil. As always, I appeciate this forum and respect your discretion, but I think our skin was pretty thick and resiliant on the Gay Obama thread.  I know you can't be here 24/7, but it's a shame a post that remained as long as the Gay Obama post did, with the offending post probably being the subject thread, th ...

Racist RemarksMay 27, 2013
