Staring Now on CSpan is "Changing the Tax Code" by FixtheDebt

Posted: Dec 4, 2012

It's a panel made up of different groups/people putting their heads together to come up with sensible suggestions. The first speaker was Sen. Max Bauchus, who gave them the challenge.

I'm going to watch it now. See ya later.

;

Fair warning. Their real agenda is their tax rate. The - debt is a smoke screen they're

working hard to not have to pay down themselves. If they do their job well, their taxes will actually drop and the debt WOULD actually increase, but they also recommend drops in Grandma's Social Security check and the conditions her Medicare covers--her involuntary sacrifices being their sole contribution to "solving" the debt problem.

Watched as much as was on CSpan. Each member - backwards typist

gave short ideas and answers...IOW, they discussed the issues. There were 13 members who discussed the issues while CSpan carried this program, but there were more on the committee that were cut short because of the House meeting.

All in all, the suggestions they thought should be followed were:
1. Tweak Simpson-Bowles.
2. VAT and/or Carbon tax.
3. National sales tax, although they all agreed that wouldn't fly with voters because it's a "seen" tax.
4. Gas tax but same reason as #3, only a little less opposition.
5. Cap on overall deduction system to 18%. Perfect way is to do these 1 by 1 but then you'll have opposition, so the VAT/Carbon tax was suggested to pay for healthcare spending and earmarks.

They all agree more revenue is needed and most of them agreed the tax system needs to be simplified.

Judd Gregg suggest Simpson-Bowles and VAT but stated it does not fix the problem and the American people won't go for the national sales tax.

Donald Maroon is for VAT. He stated if you limit tax caps at $250K, a lot of revenue is lost.

Michael Peterson stated that growth is the best way but so far, everything suggested will hurt growth.

Maya MacGuineas stated the tax code should be changed because the government loses UP TO $1 billion in lost revenue each year. She stated to limp and cap deductions by broadening the base and lower the rates. She also believes that people don't trust tax revenue will go to the intended purposes. They need to dedicate the savings to what they're intended.

I found this discussion very interesting and only listed a few members by name because of their difference in opinions from the rest.

Maybe you should go to CSpan and watch it for yourself so you know what's going on?

Oh, Joy. CSpan Has A Press Conference With Nov 14, 2012
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi is holding a press conference on CSpan2. My only choice is CSpan3 on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the funal meningitis outbreak and new strong FDA legislation so this doesn't happen again. I won't watch Nancy you-have-to-pass-it-so-we-can-see-what's-in-it Pelosi because every time I see her speak, she's forever moving her hands. I just want to jump through the screen and tie her hands behind her back or down at her side. Would she be ab ...

The Past 2 Hours On CSpan-3 Were About The F&F ReportSep 20, 2012
They questioned Michael Horowitz, the IG. He seemed very honest and straight forward. Lucky him, though....every email he asked for from Holder, he received.  Now they are having a hearing on Hate crimesand Domestic Extremism. I was looking at the definition of hate speech and/or hate crimes earlier today. I'm not sure, but I think, if the Justice Dept. would get off their duff, that they could arrest those responsible for the film that helped create the riots.  ...

Something I Was Seriously Thinking About Today While Watching CSpan 1,2,3Sep 21, 2012
If Congress wants to pass bills/laws, WHY DO THEY WASTE HALF THE DAY IN GENERAL SPEECHES? Senate Democrats are complaining about bills in the House that have not been voted on and the House is complaining about the Senate sitting on bills passed by them.  As of today, there are now 40 jobs bills sitting in the Senate not voted on and today is the last day in session until after the election.  I think the House has already left to go home. Harry Reid is blocking votes as they are rehas ...

According To CSpan, An Agreement Was Reached On Tax RatesDec 31, 2012
Deal emerging...It just says that as a 1-sentence news alert on the Senate C-SPAN. Wonder what the amount is going to be, who gave up, what is being dropped, what is being added, etc. I'm hoping the tax rates will be the highest number so it doesn't hurt the small businesses.    ...

Watching The Debate Yesterday On CSPAN, I Was A Bit Surprised/shockedMar 26, 2010
One of the debaters (can't remember his name but a pub) asked BARBARA SLAUGHTER if he could have 15 SECONDS to finish his sentence when his time ran out. She refused vehemently! She was also very nasty to someone else last week. Another pub wanted to introduce a bill and the grumblings started again from members. The gavel had to be wielded again to quiet the house. Sheila Jackson Lee stated "Since this bill was passed, lives HAVE BEEN SAVED". How? Nothing has gone into effect y ...

I Was Listening To CSPAN This Morning And Bernie Sanders Was Speaking About The Oil CompaniesJun 09, 2010
I tried writing down what he said (wish I still knew my shorthand), but could only get a few items. My curiosity aroused, I started to do a little research. Bernie stated in a 10 year period, the oil and gas companies posted a combined profit of $750 Billion. The entire industry only invested $1.5 billion in non-fossil fuel products. He also gave ALL the compensation packages for the CEOs, which I could not write fast enough, but will find them, but Occidential Petroleum's CEO received $75 ...

NEW JOB HAS DRESS CODEAug 19, 2011
My new parttime job is at one of those electronic stores where everyone wears khakis and polo shirts or short sleeved cotton shirts with the store name on them.  I am a skirt and blouse kind of gal, occasional jeans, kind of "casual-dressy-girly" style I guess.   The shirts have to be tucked in and we have to wear a belt.  I'd like to get some ideas as to how to "style" this up for my comfort level without breaking the dress code rules.  I already have thought of s ...

Mom Changing When RemarriedNov 02, 2011
Has anyone else had a mom or dad get remarried and change DRASTICALLY. My mom got remarried several months ago. She is DIFFERENT. Her friends have said they noticed a big change. I definitely have. She used to be a regular church goer. She stopped that. He doesn't go so I guess that's why. She used to cook Sunday dinner every week. She no longer cooks for her kids anymore. That used to be important to her to cook for her kids once a week, even if told not to bother. She stop ...

Moms ChangingSep 17, 2012
Has anyone experienced this with their mom?  She remarried a year and a half ago, and she is a different person.  She quit going to church, she dyed her hair, lost weight, doesn't want friends just him, tans now, acts younger.  He is a greedy, stingy person and now she is too and she was NEVER stingy.  She acts like she is better than other people now.  She gets an attitude when she was never like that especially with me.  She is basically someone I don't ...

Lovely. Code Pink Wackos.Sep 04, 2012
Sorry, but they are traitors to this country. How stupid can they be? One woman asked, "What were they doing in Hawaii anyway?" referring to Pearl Harbor and WWII.  Um, I think they were protecting the islands and the USA from the Japanese? Changing Careers -- Dispatching?Feb 28, 2012
Recently there was a poster here celebrating her new position as a dispatcher for her state police.  That particularly got my attention because she is making $36K per year plus benefits AND a former coworker of mine (MT) left to go to work for our sheriff's office doing the same thing. I have been looking online for dispatcher jobs, and here are some of my thoughts: Doing 911/EMS stuff is not my cuppa tea.  WAY too stressful! I would think that sheriff's office and/or stat ...

Changing The Channel On Congress.May 12, 2017
watching the Senate intelligence committee hearings Thursday morning, I got so frustrated I started looking for a good cartoon show. What's so aggravating about these staged Congressional hearings is that you know what the Republicans and the Democrats are going to say before you even turn on the TV. Zip Code With Most Obamacare Enrollments Votes RepublicanMar 08, 2015
Just a few miles outside of Miami, the streets of Hialeah are lined with strip malls, fast-food joints, car dealerships, and in recent months, lots of Obamacare enrollment centers. That is part of the reason why the so-called "City of Progress" is the home to two of the five zip codes with the most Obamacare sign-ups in the country. Topping the list is zip code 33012, which, according to the Department of Health & Human Services' latest figures, saw more than 12,000 enrollments - leading ...

Ted Cruz Clobbers Code Pink In Iran Debate,Jul 24, 2015
Code Pink should have known better. Ted Cruz is a champion debater. The Republican U.S. senator from Texas had just begun delivering his remarks at Thursday’s Stop Iran DC rally when he was loudly interrupted by a group of Code Pink activists with megaphones. “We want diplomacy, not war!” they said. The demonstrators for Code Pink, a left-wing women’s peace group, were soon shouted down by a crowd that was there to hear Cruz speak. “We want Ted!” they chanted. Cruz res ...
