Watching The Debate Yesterday On CSPAN, I Was A Bit Surprised/shockedMar 26, 2010One of the debaters (can't remember his name but a pub) asked BARBARA SLAUGHTER if he could have 15 SECONDS to finish his sentence when his time ran out. She refused vehemently! She was also very nasty to someone else last week.
Another pub wanted to introduce a bill and the grumblings started again from members. The gavel had to be wielded again to quiet the house.
Sheila Jackson Lee stated "Since this bill was passed, lives HAVE BEEN SAVED". How? Nothing has gone into effect y ...
Starting New Thread On Health Care DebateJan 05, 2012Previous thread getting too indented and confusing. The thread began with the question "If you are against Obama health care law, who should pay for the uninsured?" It boils down to either the individual is required to pay or the taxpayer will pay. We have lots of personal anecdotes and generalized "should" statements, grievances against the government and vague "individual basis" which means, I guess, do nothing. I came away with the opinion that conservatives are saying ...
Last Night Republican DebateJan 27, 2012Newt pretty much got the beat-down. Romney prepared and did not allow Newt to pull one of his stunts. Romney said he would fire an exec who came to him and suggested they build a moon colony. Newt needs to realize you reap what you sow. Certain posters on this board should take note too.

The Debate Last Night. Didn't See It Except ForMay 06, 2011a half hour this morning. Wish I would have known it was on at 3 a.m. I would have liked to watch the whole thing. The focus group unaminously voted that Herman Cain won. Santorum came in second.
Gingrich, Romney, etc., etc., were a no show, which was expected. ...

I Was Disappointed In Last Night's Debate.Oct 14, 2015I would have liked to have heard more from O'Malley and Webb. Instead, it was the Bernie and Hillary sideshow. All I heard was more of the same regarding socialism, free stuff, etc. Also, when Bernie stood up for Hillary regarding her emails, her cackle made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. That woman's vibe is seriously flawed. It looks like I may be voting for a Republican this time unless there is a better alternative. ...

My Opinion On Last Night's Debate Is That It Was A Draw ButOct 17, 2012a lot of antics went on that were against the rules.
1. When I could see the timer, I noted that Obama ran over his time a lot, yet nothing was said at first. Candy let him ramble on and on. It was only when they got short of time, she started to stop him from going any further; yet, he insisted in talking over her. She did stop Romney when he ran over his time more than once and he did stop.
2. Obama did not follow the subject questions with direct answers. He answers were ...

Oh, Joy. CSpan Has A Press Conference With Nov 14, 2012Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi is holding a press conference on CSpan2. My only choice is CSpan3 on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the funal meningitis outbreak and new strong FDA legislation so this doesn't happen again.
I won't watch Nancy you-have-to-pass-it-so-we-can-see-what's-in-it Pelosi because every time I see her speak, she's forever moving her hands. I just want to jump through the screen and tie her hands behind her back or down at her side. Would she be ab ...
Ron Paul Q&A On CSpan Now. Don't Know How Long He Was OnNov 15, 2012Caught part of it. Talked about fiscal cliff. Defending poor. Bailouts. Petraeus/Allen. Syria/Israel.
Probably will show up on regular CSPan later today or tomorrow. ...
The Past 2 Hours On CSpan-3 Were About The F&F ReportSep 20, 2012They questioned Michael Horowitz, the IG. He seemed very honest and straight forward. Lucky him, though....every email he asked for from Holder, he received.
Now they are having a hearing on Hate crimesand Domestic Extremism.
I was looking at the definition of hate speech and/or hate crimes earlier today. I'm not sure, but I think, if the Justice Dept. would get off their duff, that they could arrest those responsible for the film that helped create the riots. ...
Something I Was Seriously Thinking About Today While Watching CSpan 1,2,3Sep 21, 2012If Congress wants to pass bills/laws, WHY DO THEY WASTE HALF THE DAY IN GENERAL SPEECHES? Senate Democrats are complaining about bills in the House that have not been voted on and the House is complaining about the Senate sitting on bills passed by them. As of today, there are now 40 jobs bills sitting in the Senate not voted on and today is the last day in session until after the election.
I think the House has already left to go home. Harry Reid is blocking votes as they are rehas ...
According To CSpan, An Agreement Was Reached On Tax RatesDec 31, 2012Deal emerging...It just says that as a 1-sentence news alert on the Senate C-SPAN. Wonder what the amount is going to be, who gave up, what is being dropped, what is being added, etc.
I'm hoping the tax rates will be the highest number so it doesn't hurt the small businesses.

I Was Listening To CSPAN This Morning And Bernie Sanders Was Speaking About The Oil CompaniesJun 09, 2010I tried writing down what he said (wish I still knew my shorthand), but could only get a few items. My curiosity aroused, I started to do a little research.
Bernie stated in a 10 year period, the oil and gas companies posted a combined profit of $750 Billion. The entire industry only invested $1.5 billion in non-fossil fuel products. He also gave ALL the compensation packages for the CEOs, which I could not write fast enough, but will find them, but Occidential Petroleum's CEO received $75 ...
FEMA Director Fugate Just Completed A Phone-in Press Conference On CSpanNov 02, 2012I forget which newspaper asked him how many applications did FEMA receive and how much money was paid out so far.

Staring Now On CSpan Is "Changing The Tax Code" By FixtheDebtDec 04, 2012It's a panel made up of different groups/people putting their heads together to come up with sensible suggestions. The first speaker was Sen. Max Bauchus, who gave them the challenge.

The Fight Is Starting In MOMar 10, 2013I do wonder how many other states have started doing this. I would think this is ILLEGAL.
The Missouri Department of Revenue, who issues concealed carry permits in Missouri, may have been caught transmitting private information on Concealed Carry Permit Holders to the Department of Homeland Security.
Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder held a press conference to announce his involvement in an attempt to stop the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) from transmitting this private data to th ...

The 11:11 Phenomenon, I Don't Get It. I'm Starting A New ThreadMay 21, 2010because the one below sort got hijacked or should I say "invaded" by aliens from outer space. LOL!
Anyway, I had never heard of this phenomenon, so when OP posted about I googled it of course and I just don't get it, I guess. What does it all mean really, that a lot of people all look at the clock at the exact same time a day or that once you become aware of 11, you see it everywhere? If it is a true phenomenon, then what is the point? Why have everyone become aware ...
Daughter Starting CollegeApr 27, 2013Hello all - my daughter will be starting college in the fall and we are in the process of trying to find financial aid.
Does anyone have info on how to get grants? Is there usually a family income max that would allow/disallow anyone from getting a grant? I know I will need to talk to the college's financial aid office but any info that can be passed along would be appreciated. We already completed the FAFSA and my daughter got a small loan through that, but she was not awarded any gran ...
Daughter Starting CollegeMay 07, 2013I don't come on here very often but wanted to acknowledge that I saw your replies below. I have completed the FAFSA and my daughter was able to get a very small unsubsidized loan, but not even enough to cover one semester. I will try the suggestion of the forum. My daughter will be going to a university and the realization of how much money this is going to cost is overwhelming... and then to think that all that money will be spent and she may not even be able to get ...

The lessons learned in youth jobs can pay off later

I vividly remember as a teenager obtaining my first job with a regular paycheck as a high school biology-laboratory assistant.
It’s hard to describe how excited I was to be receiving a salary and contributing to the upkeep of my family’s household, but the biggest thrill was doing something important while at the same time acquiring many skills that would p ...
