Romney thinks FEMA should be disbanded, Gov. Christie no longer agrees. sm

Posted: Oct 30, 2012

I'm glad FEMA is here in the Northeast. We have a lot of damage here and a lot of people without power.  Funny how Gov. Christie changed his opinion about FEMA being disbanded after New Jersey got hit with Hurricaine Sandy/Superstorm.  Well, not really funny.  He apparently saw the light. So, if you live in New England or the Eastern seaboard are you still voting for Romney?  You think your state can handle a major disaster by itself?  Think again.

;

His budget calls for a 36-50+% cut in FEMA budget initially, - 36% if Medicare gets 36% cut, 50+% if

Medicare spared.

Something needs to be done with Medicare - It sucks!!!

I deal with them on a daily basis and another one that is horrible is BCBS.

It takes over an hour on the phone to ask why either one of these will not pay for patient care. Many doctors will not even take Medicare patients anymore. If a doctor charges 111.00 for a normal visit, the doctor in my area gets paid 22.00 for the visit after you fight with Medicare. A lot of times the we did not code it correctly on the Superbill and then when we code it the way Medicare wants it, we do not get paid because they decided to change the codes again. It is almost fighting for pennies on the phone with Medicare. The TIME IT TAKES to talk to Medicare and what the doctor gets paid from Medicare and lastly the amount of money the doctor pays us to deal with it just isn't worth dealing with Medicare and so doctors opt out patients who have it.

Clerkhood can be he**, but I'm afraid Medicare tightening up - on rules and adherence is the future. This is

an important way we ultimately manage to give more and better service for less per person. Sorry about those phone waits, though. Thank goodness for hands-free, right?
Don't have hand free phones. I do everything - in the office.

I work for a private doctor's office and handle EVERYTHING in the office. I am put on hold with Medicare for up to 1-2 hours. That is right. During that time, I bandage a foot, greet patients, take other phone calls and schedule patients, clean instruments, dust, clean bathroom, empty garbage, etc. I push the hold button so many times on the phone that we had to purchase a new phone. My doctor does not get paid enough money and she has numerous school loans to pay off to afford hands-free phones among other things. It is more important to spend money for the patient and do whatever for the patient, not employees or herself as a doctor. Oh, she wishes to God she went to pharmacy school or became a dentist.
That sounds awful, but, am I misunderstanding--you are - either holding the phone or pushing "hold&quo

Both. - hahaha

I am holding the phone waiting for a live person to speak to me. The second line rings, I push hold and answer the other line and then get back to the first line with Medicare on hold.

Or, I am holding the phone and the patient needs arm bandaged. I push hold and go to the back room, bandage the patient's arm and then go back to the phone to see if someone picked up the line from Medicare while I was on hold. Usually nothing, because it has only been 35 minutes while being on hold.

The list goes on.

Romney wants the states to decide. I tend - to agree.

“Gov. Romney wants to ensure states, who are the first responders and are in the best position to aid impacted individuals and communities, have the resources and assistance they need to cope with natural disasters,” the Romney official said.

Romney wants money to be given to states and have them decide who needs it most when a disaster strikes. FEMA may not exist, but something else would be in place. I work for my area Red Cross DAT team and have been taking training classes. In fact, I just need a few more classes and if I had finished them, I would have been heading to the Northeast to help set up evacuation centers. There were 10 that were deployed in my area and another 10 on standby in the next few days in my state. Romney wants the states to decide how to create their own disaster teams which of course would CREATE MORE JOBS.

ToAgree, states, counties and cities ALREADY have what - Romney is suggesting. It DOESN'T WORK in big

emergencies. FEMA was created specifically because of dreadful failures to meet disasters too large for even state resources.

Not Romney But OBAMA Proposes Cuts To FEMA!!Oct 30, 2012
See pages 94-96 of Obama's sequestration budget plan.  Yes, Romney believes that FEMA has been over-funded for the results that we've actually gotten from the agency (which are perfectly miserable) - but the difference is, Romney plans to redistribute the money to the states and it isn't therefore a cut to emergency funding.  Under Obama's plan, the money would be used to fund OBAMACARE. Some Notion Of What FEMA's Up To In A DozenOct 31, 2012
This is part of a FEMA bulletin. FEMA's job is COORDINATION of national disaster relief resources. If you scan down, I underlined some of the national resources coordinated by FEMA when needed. Note that governors have the option--in most cases--of requesting FEMA assistance or not (things like nuclear plant emergencies and terrorism examples of obvious exceptions).  At bottom is a link to a NY Times article on what FEMA's been doing in NY/NJ. From FEMA: "Today, the President au ...
