Republicans voted on Wisconsin bill anyway...

Posted: Mar 10, 2011

The verbiage in this article is astounding.  The Dems held the government hostage as much as they accuse the Republicans of.  All this rhetoric about attack on the people of Wisconsin...what a load of hooey.  They act like there is not a person in Wisconsin who is NOT a public worker.  What about the REST of them???  The ones that have to foot the bill through their tax dollars??  And all the unions/Dems can do is try to whip up the old class warfare crap.  What about the people who don't have ANY bennies, much less sweet union bennies?  Who have to try to pay for ALL their health care??  What about the ones who have NO job right now?  And the public workers are griping because the state asked them to take an 8% cut.  At least they HAVE something!!  The selfishness here is glaring.  And they are not giving up their right to bargain for more money, it just can't go above inflation rate.  Police and fire are exempt.  What they asked them to do is NOT the end of the world, and why they are not willing to do so for the good of the ENTIRE state and the thousands of workers are NOT public workers....

SELFISH.

What part of illegal against the law vote are you not getting? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Does democratic process mean anything to you at all? Walker knew he was losing GOP support in the senate. That is why he could not even wait 2 HOURS after posting notice to hold the vote. This law will be thrown out and the poeple of WI will turn out in droves today and tomorrow to remind you what democracy is and always will be.

I would be there with you to protest if I could - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
Remind them that this is America, not a Third-World country. We don't do things like that in our country. There are laws and reasons for those laws. There are unions and good reasons for those unions. Go through the legal process to change what needs to be changed, but respect the law.

Excuse me...but I think the Democrats started - the ignoring of the democratic

[ In Reply To ..]
process, so that argument does not hold water. Since your President has instructed his Justice Department to ignore a law on the books and not defend it in court because HE thinks it is unconstitutional, add to that the fact that your Democrat senators ran off to avoid having to vote because they knew they were going to lose (cowards, thwarting the whole HEART of democracy...majority rules, in case you have forgotten that)....and now you want to get outraged because the Republicans bypassed a silly notification law that would not have changed the outcome anyway because your coward senators were not coming back anyway...and if they had, they would have lost anyway...

well...cry me a river. When you get incensed at ALL of the above, I will take you seriously.

It has already been established that - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
the WI 14 violated no terms in the WI Constitution by leaving the state to prevent a quorum. The fact that you are trying to drag Obama into this Wisconsin issue and stray far and wide clearly indicates you have nothing to offer except more Fox foaming at the mouth, have zero regard for democratic process and zero credibility.

Suppose you step up and post specific articles defining these cryptic references you are making so a real discussion can take place. Otherwise, we are left to wonder what it is you are tryng to say while hiding behind unsubstantiated innuendo.
Deflect, deflect. Zero regard for the democratic - process is running like
[ In Reply To ..]
cowards from a vote because you know you don't have enough votes to win. you can spin it however you like, but that is ZERO regard for the Democratic process. Imagine the chaos all over the country if one party or the other just bolted when they knew a vote was not going to go their way. And the fact that you support that and get all up in arms if the other side takes liberties puts you heavily in the zero credibility column.

Google Obama and the DOMA, and how he instructed the attorney general not to defend it in court because he (Obama) thinks it is not constitutional. All he needs to do now is declare himself King. That is not cryptic and easily verifiable.

As to the duck and hide Democrat senators...that is not uinnuendo. That is in-your-face childish selfishness.

Glad to know you respective it tho...that pushed you right on over to zero credibility.

Now WHAT would you be saying if situation reversed and it was Republicans on the lam? Would we be seeing the same level of indignation?

Uhhh...NO. ZERO credibility.
repeating yourself over and over again is not the same - as citing sources
[ In Reply To ..]
to back up your foam. Please point to the place in the WI Constitution that says they did anything other than claim space and time enough to expose Walkers bankrupt soul to the nation. You go Google DOMA, then start another thread, because that has absolutely nothing to do with this subject.

Obviously, you are unable to defend this latest in a long line of illegal maneuvers of Walkers so all you can come up with is attacks on folks who had nothing to do with this issue. That is the sheer essence of deflection and is transparent as the day is long.
Cowards who ran and thwarted the process - because they knew they
[ In Reply To ..]
they did not have the votes to win. Period. What if they were Republicans? You would be asking for their heads on a platter.

Talk about transparent.

175,000 union workers versus 5 million non union people in WI - WI MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you really going to pretend that you think they are heroes standing up for 2.85% of the population of Wisconsin? What rights are you claiming are being taken away? The right of demanding a raise above the CPI? The right of not having to pay for benefits or pension? The right of having to mandatorily belong to a union and pay dues to fund the democrat party? Those are not rights, those are entitlements that the unions take for their people regardless of the impact on the state, county, city or school budget. These democrats represent ALL their constituents, not just those who protest the loudest or can take off work for weeks on end to protest. What about my rights as a WI taxpayer and part of the 5 million? Seems to me my rights are being violated by having my property taxes raised every year without my permission to pay for more teacher union demands.
Obama butted his nose in first - WI MT
[ In Reply To ..]
It took Obama a shorter time to state his views on WI budget matters than what was happening in Egypt. As the head Democrat when he states he is going to put on his walking shoes and march with the people and demonizes Walker every chance he gets on national TV he certainly butted in where he was not welcome. The 14 AWOL democrats were only following his lead and in fact supported monetarily by members of US Congress. Walker even told Obama to mind his own business and fix the national deficit but Obama just kept right on talking and inciting protests. Obama didn't tell the 14 to go home and do their job because he ignores democracy when it does not suit his purpose.
You got that right!! They say Walker wants to - bust unions when all they
[ In Reply To ..]
after is ramming socialism down our throats using the time-tested class warfare give them someone to hate and blame tactics...in this case, instead of the rich, its the Republicans. Same story, second verse. Trying to whip people into a frenzy. And who gets lost in all this? All the OTHER workers in Wisconsin!!!!
I believe he said that while campaigning and he's a little busy right now - He may not have time to join the protest
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the voters are going to tell Walker what to do very soon. He did not say during his campaign that he was planning to bust unions. That surprised people who supported him and voted for him. I'm amazed that he thought he could get away with it. Americans don't like bullies. They may like them for a short time, but they don't wear well.
Please tell me how you bust a union by exempting - some of the members
[ In Reply To ..]
from the bill?

Bullies? You mean like the Democrats shoving Obamacare down our throats? THAT kind of bullies??

The crazy things - here in WI

[ In Reply To ..]
These pro-Walker folks just don't care about Walker going rogue to fulfill the Koch's agenda. They don't care that he lied. They don't care he has a history of illegal campaign activities. They don't care that he wants to abolish a viable 2-party system in the US. They don't care that his policies will negatively impact the middle and lower class, as do nearly all Republican financial policies. It's just so darn odd -- the repub agenda is to reward and maintain the very rich for the most part, cut down on the middle class and create a fairly large group of the very poor. It's almost like the pro-Walker folks are campaigning and cheering on the destruction of their own way of life with the blind subservience to the very rich and turning their backs on the needy and very young. This is why the history of our world is so filled with strife, power struggles, death, oppression and turning our backs on the less fortunate. It's all about greed all of the time.

They had already agreed to the cuts, so the only thing left was union busting - which is what they illegally voted to do

[ In Reply To ..]
If I were there, I would be out there in the cold protesting with them until justice is done.

The cuts are fine. The union busting is not.

They did not agree to the provision preventing - collective bargaining if

[ In Reply To ..]
the salary hike was going to be above inflation rates. THAT is the part of collective bargaining that was stripped. They can still bargain for raises up to inflation level, police and fire are exempt, so if they were going to bust unions, they would not exempt anybody.

Tell the WHOLE story.

and it wasn't an illegal vote. - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
They did everything by the book and by the law - including posting a notice of what they were going to do, which they were not actually required to do.

I'm not saying it wasn't ugly, because it was. Both sides have done this in the past. The real issue should be that it's not right for either side, but until both sides show the same outrage when the system is used in this way, nothing will change. It all seems to depend on whose ox is being gored.
According to state law, it was illegal - nm

State law requires 20 for a quorum... - Zville MT

for any measures that spend money. The repubs took out all spending issues from the bill, thus allowing them to vote without having a quorum. Dirty little procedural trick, yes; illegal, no.
Which was so strange since they had insisted it was all about spending issues, not unions - but at the end of the day...
[ In Reply To ..]
it was all about unions.
I know - that is interesting. - Zville MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the goal of taking away collective bargaining is so the unions can't come back in a year or two and try to bargain for better benefit packages and retirement benefits after agreeing to take the cuts now.

That's just a theory, though. I could be completely off base.

If This Is The Wisconsin Bill They Passed, What's Wrong With It?Mar 10, 2011
I spent the last few hours reading it (I really hate legalese-LOL) then did a search on collective bargaining. I did see where they wanted to tie raises to the CPI but can't find it now. Anyway, the pages that I found CB in the search are: Pgs. 955-964, 998, 1045, 1061, 1312, 1332-1334. So, tell me where they are stripping collecitve bargaining from the unions. Fair question.    http://legis.wisconsin.gov/2011/data/AB-40.pdf ...

Republicans Filibuster Their OWN Bill!Dec 06, 2012
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wanted to prove on Thursday that Democrats don’t have the votes to weaken Congress’ authority on the debt limit. Instead they called his bluff, and he ended up filibustering his own bill. The legislation, modeled on a proposal McConnell offered last year as a “last-choice option” to avert a U.S. debt default, would permit the president to unilaterally lift the debt ceiling unless Congress mustered a two-thirds majority to stop him. This Is What I See Coming For WisconsinMar 17, 2011
I have copied and pasted something someone wrote that pretty much sums up Scott (slime) Walker's intentions.   Diane Ravitch has it in a nutshell. Of Scott Walker, she writes: He expects that over time, most public workers will stop paying dues, especially now that they have to pay more for their healthcare and pension benefits. And thus will he cripple, perhaps permanently, a perennial political opponent. If Gov. Walker succeeds, there will be no organized voice to oppose hi ...
