Pork appointed to chair appropriations committee. The Republicans want to redefine earmarks. ;

Want to talk about earmarks Mr. Obama got... - for his wife's employer...

[ In Reply To ..]
while Senator in Illinois?

Obama has already flip-flopped on earmarks. He ran for President on a platform of banning them...and I believe he has now back off to reforming them, which sounds an awful lot like redifining them....? Ahem.

This is not to put you or the previous poster down. The fact is, if anyone else has noticed, our government is just plain corrupt, whether republican or democrat. It has turned into a war of the parties and not for the good of the American citizens. I do not know what the answer is. Look at all of us on here. We are fighting back and forth, either for the pubs or the dems, and nothing gets resolved. This is exactly what is happening in our government. Personally, I wish we could just do away with parties and listen to individual beliefs and get rid of the party crap. It is just a big farce and a he-said, she-said, I win, you win but I'll get you back by finding dirt to dig up on you. Gosh, it just sickens me the state of our country. We have people that don't want to help our own citizens but want us to help illegal aliens, we have made Spanish a primary language in many schools instead of a secondary language. We want to give to the rich and take from the poor. We want to give more to the poor and take from people earning a lot of money. We want to help every other country but not our own. We cry of deficits yet come up with programs to help other countries before we take care of our own. We don't want to give every American the chance to have health insurance, yet our government can give our tax dollars to illegals and other countries for medical care. The list goes on and on. We want to increase tax on rich and then give it to illegals and other countries.

So sorry for venting, but our country is falling apart and our government is acting like a bunch of school children at our expense. Don't know how to solve the problem other than get rid of parties and vote on individuals with the belief that we have the greatest country in the world and rich or poor, we all deserve a chance at a decent life not at everybody elses expense.

I agree completely about political parties. They are... - more destructive than constructive.

[ In Reply To ..]
however, that is what we have right now and both sides of any issue need to be presented. It is up to we the people in the voting booths to keep cleaning house until we restore representatives who once again feel public service is an honor and that they go to Washington with the peoples' agenda, not their own personal agenda. I do not know if that is possible anymore, but I will work toward America NOT going to sleep again.

Thank you for your post. I hope that rank and file Americans will come more toward the center away from the radical left and radical right and yes, take our country back from any political party who puts its will above the will of the people.
:-)

I agree with you and I think the only way we will get rid of the personal agenda of our politicians is to drop those ridiculous salaries and get rid of those perks. Let people run who really want to make a difference in America, not get in to help this one or that one and become rich on tax dollars. I don't know how we go about getting it to where we vote on their salaries, not them, but we need to figure out a way to do that, after all, they work for us. I don't ever remember having a job where I told my boss how much he is going to pay me.
True! Maybe we can start by writing our reps in... - Congress.
[ In Reply To ..]
explain that would be a show of good faith on their part. Frankly, I don't think they should get raises because I think they should not be able to serve until they are 80. Two terms, that's it. And no lifetime big retirement check either.

And other thing...as far as earmarks. All lobbyists should be banned from Washington. States should have to make a request to the government for what they think they need and they need to stop that stupid practice of burying those gimmes in a popular piece of legislation and holding it hostage until the pork is added. That is OUR money they are spending, not THEIRS.

Government has gotten way too big and has its hands too deep in our pockets and its big nose too deep into our business. Was not intended to be that way. We the people went to sleep at the wheel.
good points - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You make very good points. We did fall asleep at the wheel. Unfortunately, not enough people get involved and research what is going on, they just go with the flow.

I am always writing my representatives and giving them a piece of my mind. LOL

Yes, I think they need to handle an issue as just the issue and stop making it a book of I'll do this if you do this and so on.

You keep writing and I'll keep writing and the ones that are writing need to keep writing and more need to write and we need to take our country back! There is a large population that believes writing does not good. I think that is wrong. We just need to keep pounding our officials with our complaints and let them know what we think they need to do. They will get it eventually.

Heck, maybe we should all stop paying taxes until they learn how to spend our money properly. LOL
Well, that would certainly get their attention! LOL. - nm

Yes he did change his wording. The pubs - did too

[ In Reply To ..]
Not sure which one did it first but the whole Republican stand to ban them appears to have been just for show also.

The fact that a republican is the biggest user of earmarks and then is appointed as chair of appropriations is quite telling though, wouldn't you say?

I would say BOTH sides need to stand up.... - but at least we agree BOTH are guilty.

THAT is a start in the right direction.

The Republican StrategyFeb 19, 2010
It takes awhile to make sense of the entrails of the Republican Party, partly because they are just so toxic, but also because it's actually difficult to comprehend that an American political party can so deliberately sabotage its own government and nation. But after observing their behavior and their policy of, "Just Say No" -- sometimes to their own suggestions, one can only surmise that they long ago left the business of governing and have instead agreed to a covert game plan of destruc ...
