As a republican and after the debate --

Posted: Aug 6, 2015

I must say I was impressed with Bush and Rubio. Trump, though, was a joke.  I think his numbers are going to come down now.

Chiming in on debate - sm

I agree with you regarding Trump. I was most impressed with Carson and Bush.

I hope Fiorina rises up. I really like her.

As an independent - and after the debate

[ In Reply To ..]
I must say I was impressed with Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace. Donald Trump came off as a petulant bully, especially his answers about women & directed at Ms. Kelly. I don't like Huckabee, but he had a couple of good statements. I actually liked Rubio. I'm looking forward to the next debate.

My opinions is Carly won the first one, Cruz the second. - I agree, I liked Rubio and what

[ In Reply To ..]
Huckabee said, although I'm not a fan of his. BTW,

I actually liked the early show better without the audience. - Carly seemd well prepared and

[ In Reply To ..]
relaxed during her responses and didn't seem easily flustered. I liked what she said about the phone calls, one to Israel and one to Iran.
In the first debate the candidates were focused on putting the - Hildabeast out to pasture and
[ In Reply To ..]
had more gravity to it, and Carly, IMO, outperformed everyone across both debates.

I was disappointed that Fox virtually ignored Cruz - for 40 minutes straight,

[ In Reply To ..]
skipping him on topics such as Iran and even Obamacare.

Trump winning the Drudge poll by a huge margin. - Not "scientific", of course.

[ In Reply To ..]
Pretty sure the poll is more about "shock" or "entertainment" value than anything else.

It's becoming difficult to believe that even Trump takes his own candidacy very seriously. Just the fact that he didn't think it worth his time to prepare for the debate will turn even some of his own supporters off (it's rather insulting not only to the other candidates, but also to the voters/viewers who invest their time to watch the debate).

And then there's the continual stream of very intemperate and un-statesmanlike language, etc. He seems to be treating it all more like one of his reality TV shows than anything else - and he's really not looking very "chief-executive-like", much less Presidential. No one wants a President who is crude, rude and undiplomatic, however they might agree with his positions.

Rand was awful. Rubio did himself some good, as did Carson. The rest were just treading water, IMHO.

Prediction: Carly Fiorina will be at the "grown-up table" for the next debates. Hoo-boy would I LOVE to see a race between Hillary and Carly! It would shoot down about half of Hillary's campaign. If Republicans have any politcal acumen at all (and I'm not sure we do), Carly should be at least the VP on the Republican ticket.

That is scary--Fiorina doesn't belong on the - stage-as to not being scientific

[ In Reply To ..]
Shouldn't bother the Republicans. They gave up logic and science a long time ago.

Some of Donald's appeal is his "Art of the Deal" logic, he's - aware of this selling point, but I do think

[ In Reply To ..]
he takes jabs at people and doesn't need to, then comes across as a bully.

I found him to have no depth whatsoever. I still like - Cruz, but was impressed with Rubio. nm

I liked what Carson said about Alinsky and progressives. - He was superb last night.

[ In Reply To ..]
I've sort of watched him with half-interest because I haven't seen much passion. I saw the passion last night and I liked it. The following is from the Washington Post.

CARSON: If Hillary is the candidate, which I doubt, that would be a dream come true.

(LAUGHTER)

But you know, the fact of the matter is, she is the epitome of the progressive -- the secular progressive movement. And she counts on the fact that people are uninformed, the Alinsky Model, taking advantage of useful idiots.

Well, I just happen to believe that people are not stupid.

(APPLAUSE) And the way I will come at it is to educate people, help people to actually understand that it is that progressive movement that is causing them the problems.

You know, you look at the -- the national debt and how it's being driven up. If I was trying to destroy this country, what I would do is find a way to drive wedges between all the people, drive the debt to an unsustainable level, and then step off the stage as a world leader and let our enemies increase while we decreased our capacity as a military person. And that's what she's doing.

"Useful idiots" - LOL

[ In Reply To ..]
Too funny!! And sadly, SO TRUE!!!!!

Great comment by Ben. The Hildabeast is the - epitome of self inflicated pathologies

[ In Reply To ..]
of the Alinsky left.

Newt pretty much got the beat-down. Romney prepared and did not allow Newt to pull one of his stunts.  Romney said he would fire an exec who came to him and suggested they build a moon colony.  Newt needs to realize you reap what you sow.  Certain posters on this board should take note too.   ...

The first person to ask a question was Kerry Ladka. "Was Ladka satisfied with how the president responded? Simply no. “I really didn’t think he totally answered the question satisfactorily as far as I was concerned,” Ladka tells the Erik Wemple Blog. After the debate . . . My Take On The Debate. SmOct 14, 2015
I was struck last night by the huge difference in what we can infer about the nature of Bernie's and Hillary's thought processes while they were processing the challenging questions that Anderson Cooper threw out at them individually. Hillary's demeanor reminded me of one of those canned Miss America Pageant contestant types whom you can tell is so focused on searching her memory bank for a previously stored 'good answer' that the importance of the issue itself was tota ...

Diaper Debate...Sep 17, 2011
Okay, so here it is. I have a very good friend who is expecting. She is low income and has MA, WIC, food stamps, etc. She is slowly buying clothes, furniture, etc. a little at a time before baby arrives around May.  She knows about Goodwill, rummage sales, resale shops, and all that too.  She has other friends as well (who have had children) telling her which diapers are the best. She wants to start buying diapers now so she has a few packs/boxes to start with when the baby arrives. Sh ...

I'm So Tired Of The Tax Debate!May 14, 2010
Tax the rich more....tax the poor less, etc.  It is my opinion that if you tax the rich more, it won't help that much considering there are so many loopholes in the tax code that I'm sure the rich will find a way to get out of paying more taxes.  Why don't we just do a flat tax.  That will eliminate the loopholes.  Simple and easy...probably why they won't do it though.  They need something confusing so the crooks in the world can get out of paying ta ...

How To Debate The DonaldAug 03, 2015
This article is amusing. I would hope there is a lot of practice going on for other Republicans on how not to let him get under their skin. They should refuse to answer him directly (which I don't think they are supposed to anyway) and calmly present their perspective, no matter how wild his responses and answers are. If possible, they should ignore him and pretend he has not spoken at all. I particularly liked this reference-- "Other than a dart gun?," he said. "A tranquilizer gun ...

Debate Impressions? Sep 17, 2015
On TV this morning, Trump is complaining about the length of the debate.  Commentators are saying he appeared tired and "disappeared"  for about 40 minutes.  Kind of amusing coming from the "high energy" guy.  Do you think if he got the 2:00 am phone call he would say "call me back after 10 and I've had my coffee"? I think it is sort of insulting that he is complaining about standing for 3 hours.  Just think of all the Walmart workers on their feet all day, some wo ...

Need Opinions On An Ongoing Debate Between DH And MeSep 21, 2011
My DH and I have been having an ongoing argument about family obligations on the part of grown children.  We are so invested in our points of view that we sometimes get almost hostile and have to stop the conversation. We Need A New Topic To Discuss And DebateMay 08, 2011
On my mind has been the stealth helicoptor that was left behind in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. I think the young heroes on that raid just got a little too anxious on that one. Another topic I wouldn't mind discussing is whether Americans disagree about politics more these days than in the past. ...
