Georgia Republican Who Made 'Callous' Pre-Existing Condition Remark Has One Of His Own

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 12/06/2013 12:13 am EST  |  Updated: 12/06/2013 9:30 am

A day after Georgia's Republican insurance commissioner Ralph Hudgens was criticized for "out-of-touch" remarks on pre-existing medical conditions, spokesman Glenn Allen revealed that Hudgens has a pre-existing condition of his own.

Allen told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday that Hudgens has gone in for regular checkups following surgery for prostate cancer more than a decade ago.

“He fully understands why it’s not somebody’s fault (he or she) has a pre-existing condition, because he has one,” Allen said.

Hudgens was forced to swallow his words Wednesday after the Georgia Democratic Party circulated footage of him comparing pre-existing conditions to at-fault car wrecks. Making the case against Obamacare's requirement that insurers accept those with pre-existing conditions, Hudgens suggested that such conditions were the fault of those who have them, in the way a car accident is the driver's fault.

"Say you’re going along and you have a wreck. And it’s your fault. Well, a pre-existing condition would be then you calling up your insurance agent and saying, ‘I would like to get collision insurance coverage on my car,'" Hudgens explained.

State Democrats accused Hudgens of being out of touch. After the criticism, Hudgens admitted to the Atlanta Constitution-Journal that he'd made a "really poor analogy."

“I’ve had family members, I’ve had friends … who have pre-existing conditions,” he told the paper. “It’s not the person’s fault they have a pre-existing condition.”

Still, Hudgens is a staunch opponent of the Affordable Care Act. In August, he told a group of Republicans that he was doing "everything in [his] power to be an obstructionist.”

It's easier to be a liberal/progressive than it is to - be conservative. For instance,

a liberal/progressive politician can say, "we need to take care of the poor." Who would deny that? So will emotions running high, people support whatever policy they propose without thinking of the consequences.

Look what welfare has done to the family.

People on this board are not obstructionist. We are not politicians. Ralph Hudgens does not represent all republicans like you make it out to be. He doesn't represent all republicans just like many moron democrats don't represent all democrats.

Harry Reid, however, is an obstructionist (and a moron). That is who the person that I replied to mentioned and since I was replying to her message and not yours that is why I wrote what I did. She was indeed exactly correct.

You don't even want to go there on talks about democrat obstructionism. The hypocrisy is so obvious.

"Obama didn’t complain about this kind of behavior when the Democrats were the minority during the Bush administration. Why didn’t he bring up the blocking of legislation by Democrats on The Patriot Bill? Bush’s energy bill? The border security bill? Parental notification bill? Class-action lawsuit reform?"

The facts are out there. Facts are facts no matter how much you don't like them. They don't change, they just are. You can choose to believe facts or not, but evidence doesn't lie.

The only people who twist things around are the liberals. People post facts here regarding many issues, but yet the liberal posters have a way of twisting them completely around, to a point where they are obvious lies (OC is a big example). Liberal posters will give every excuse they can think of and then when they aren't winning they turn around and will bring Bush's name into the conversation (when he has nothing to do with it). It's a very common tactic used by the liberal propaganda stations. Take the facts, twist them into something they are not, then proclaim that the republicans are twisting the facts, then scream Bush. But facts are facts and no matter how much you don't like them and how much the liberals try and twist them into something they are not, does not change that they are simply facts.

Another fact that is true is that liberals will not discuss the obstructionism on their part. Every time I turn around there is obstructionism on the part of the democrat politicians. But liberals will never talk about that. They only talk about republicans obstructing as if its only republicans that do it.
I'm interested. Can you provide a link supporting - Libby

[ In Reply To ..]
I detect no one screaming or proclaiming. lol

And all those bills you list - are bad bills

[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately, the Democrats were not half as successful at obstruction as the Republicans, since it appears most of them passed!

The bills the Republicans are blocking are, well, let's see: All of them. Just any bill for anything, any nomination for anyone, most especially those bills that would pass (immigration for example) but the tea party does not want passed, so let's try that other lovely trick up the sleeve, cloture. Boehner will not even bring it to a vote, thereby effectively one man is obstructing the passage of laws most Americans want but the laws even his own party would vote yes on, but maybe he would then lose his job, which is obviously more important than any other job in the world.

Boehner keeps talking about "The American People want..." There is actual proof the MAJORITY of American people want gun control, a higher minimum wage, immigration reform, infrastructure repair and rebuilding. So how come he is not hearing those American people (the majority)?

My guess when he talks about The American People he means a small percentage of Republican tea party voters who don't want any of those things and so they are holding sway over the entire country. This particularly lethal brand of obstructionism means this country has ceased to be a representative democracy.
