Question with probably no answer

Posted: Mar 22, 2012

no answer that hasn't already been mentioned here at one time or another.

"When I am elected," so saith Mitt, "the first thing I'll do is repeal the National Health Care law."

"When I am elected," also saith the Mitt, "I'll cancel Planned Parenthood."

First on health care---how can one person do that? Would he not need Congressional approval? Last time I looked, the President executed the law; the President is not empowered to repeal the law.

On Planned Parenthood two questions: how can one person do that? How can any female vote for a man who says he'll do that?

For those who must have sources, Mitt has said these things in speeches and in interviews. I probably read or saw this on MSNBC, CNN, cnn.com, wapo.com.

Thinking further on health care, would he not have to have a member of Congress introduce a bill to restrict and/or eliminate HC and would he not need a majority GOP in both Houses to get this done? If so, why does he not tell the citizenry that that's what it takes and that he is not a god? Why are people not smart enough to know that he, like so many, spews words, words, words with no substance?

He said that foreclosures should CONTINUE so that "investors" can purchase the properties and "put renters in" to those foreclosed homes.

He doesn't believe in helping the homeowner like Obama does.

My take - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Didn't care for the "so saith Mitt" comments could have just said that's what he said. Can't put my finger on it, just hit the "no funny" bone. But you made it obvious your feelings about him, so that was good to know right away before reading the post.

Now...my take on what he "said". National Health Care Law needs to be repealed. If he is talking about the law they are trying to pass to force everyone to purchase a product. Yes that needs to be repealed. I have health insurance myself because its the smart thing to do, but I sure don't want the government or anyone telling me I have to purchase a product if I don't want it. What's next, telling me what vegetable I have to eat or that I have to buy extra tires for my vehicle or anything they want.

On the planned parenthood, my understand is that he is canceling government funding for planned parenthood. There will still be planned parenthood, they will just have to get their funding from other sources. I have an idea for them. I think all the 1%er ultra rich democrats should all give them money every year. Then they'd be funded forever. There are other important things my tax money should be going to. Not some clinic. Get their money somewhere else. Although truthfully I don't think what he is saying will pass. There are enough people in congress both democrat and republican that want PP funded. I do think he needs congressional approval which he will not get. But then again if a president can go to war without congresses approval maybe he'll be able to have the power to do that. Don't know.

Second question on planned parenthood and how can any female vote for him if he says that. Very simple really. I am not voting for him because of his viewpoints on planned parenthood. I am voting for him because I think he's the only hope we have of fixing the problems. Unemployment, etc. Since the democrats don't know how to do it and have not done anything and things are getting worse it's time to let the republicans try. If things had gotten better after Bush left that would be one thing. But you don't reward someone who is failing at doing it again. That's not how it works at companies. PP is not an issue that affects every women in this country. That is so low on many of our lists and not why we vote for someone.

I don't need sources, I believe you when you said he said these things. Never heard of wapo.com. Think that's interesting. I'll check it out.

As for the foreclosure deal (to whom a poster replied to you with). MR said that, but Obama and this administration is doing it. There is no difference. Obama and the admin are not doing anything to help many people. They are letting foreclosures happen so the government can buy up the houses and rent them out. They are not doing anything to help home owner. I've seen many people trying to get assistance to help them keep their homes. Everytime I turn on 20/20 or any news whether it be on TV or in the local newspaper. Our town has the highest foreclosures anywhere. They all said Obama promised them help but done nothing. I have family and friends throughout the country that say the same thing. So MR said one thing and BO is actually doing the same thing. No difference.

I think all woman and men can vote for MR. Not every issue that is important to some is important to others.

I'm a woman and I CAN'T vote for him. - nm

Well I'm a woman and I CAN vote for him along with my 2 sisters - 4 aunts, 6 cousins

and at a BBQ with friends about 7 out of 9 female friends are voting for him because we are all middle - low income and we don't like what is going on in the country. None of us gives a rats behind about the PP. We all realize that's a ploy get get a lot of people worked up. We are focusing on real issues that affect our and our friends lives. MR is the better candidate for us.
Being middle-low income, how does voting - for MR make you SM

better off? What is he going to do for middle low income people that Obama has not tried to do? ANother poster said that Obama has done nothing to help this economy so we should give a republican a chance. IMO, we already know what will happen, look at the Bush years, look at the lax regulations on Wall Street that allowed them to almost destory this country. With no consequences for bad behavior, greedy people will only get more greedy. How in the world will voting republican help middle low income people?

People fall for the scare tactics by the pubs that we are going to be a "communist" country if the dems stay in office. They believe the pubs when they say we need less government and basically they want the corporations to have free reign to do what they want (as long as they are filling their pockets), trying to make us believe that they will do good and create more jobs.

Personally, I think we need more people in these government agencies like the FDA, who can better inspect our food. The EPA to make sure these companies aren't polluting our planet more than they are. I'm not talking about more big shots, I'm talking about actual people like you and me who can do these jobs.

I also think people believe that Obamacare is such a horrible thing because the pubs make you believe that you will be paying more and you shouldn't be forced to have insurance. In all actuality, you are paying more now because so many don't have insurance and use the ERs for their care and we are paying for it because they can't. The ones who truly can't afford insurance are given tax credits to buy the insurance. As for the seniors, my dad is a die-hard pub and hates Obama and said it was going to rip him off, when in all actuality, he is getting more things paid for this year, such as mammograms for my step-mom that weren't paid for before.

AS far as this pipeline thing. I personally don't want a pipeline running through our country to pollute more. We just had a small pipeline in our state bust and fill the whole river with oil and destroy the water and wildlife and businesses around it. As far as more jobs, I would rather have a planet to live on than more jobs that way. There are so many better ways to create jobs than a pipeline. How bout some more inspectors to make sure our food is safe and more EPA inspectors to stop things like pipelines breaking and having companies dump garbage into our waterways.

How about more social workers in the welfare system to weed out the lazy people that just don't work.

Obama wants to give tax credits to the companies that bring jobs back here. What is not to like about that?

I know some of the things in Obamacare are republican ideas. The president made sure and include things from both sides. Hey, maybe some of the ideas are Romney's, yet he is now saying he is going to do away with Obamacare. What's the deal with that anyway?

Okay, I'm finished. Have fun
I would like for you to explain to me the - insurance thing
[ In Reply To ..]
I really watch very little news and spend my time reading books and things of that nature and very little political articals. So, things I come up with in my mind are my logical thoughts, nothing someone either way has put in my head. I cannot logically come up with a reason that as an insured that I am paying more because there are so many out there without insurance. I have worked years in the insurance industry both from a selling side to billing/reimbursement side, and I feel this is something people are being sold as truth. Of course, the new pre-existing thing will be sure to up premiums.

What I would like to see, is who will be eligible for credits. There are people who on paper to have a decent income but still cannot afford insurance. What the government determines as low income is ridiculous. Someone will be footing the bill for the credits.

This I can agree with you on, more social workers to weed out the lazy people. First of all, this isn't going to happen as remember, they are also voters, and I'm pretty sure we both know which way they vote. This sounds more like a conservative idea than liberal. What should happen to those people and their families?
it's not a conservative - or liberal
[ In Reply To ..]
idea, it is just my thoughts. I don't claim to be either. I like ideas from people, not parties.

Were these laws that President bush passed? The last I heard, Congress passes laws. I think the lax regulations were decided upon by the Democrat-controlled Congress. Learn the facts!! You need to stop blaming President Bush for everything wrong in the world.
I am serious. I believe both sides are to - blame actually SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I am basing my opinion on the fact that it is the republicans who are pushing for less regulations, something that contributed to the collapse in 2008. They are still hanging on the believe of the trickle down theory, something that has been proven to not work. It is the republicans who want to go back to the way it was before 2008, at least that is what they are saying. There is corruption in both parties, no doubt, but I do not understand how anyone who is low middle class can think voting for MR will make their lives better.
What about the democrats who believed - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
that everyone should be a homeowner no matter what their income. They passed legislation that lowered income requirements and made it possible for people to buy homes they could not afford. This caused the collapse in the home building industry and then virtually affected every other industry. We are still trying to recover from that.

That is why I would vote for Mitt Romney over Obama. Republicans believe in personal responsiblity. They DO NOT believe the government can fix everybody's problem by taxing and taxing and taxing.
I said I believe both sides are to blame but - I think it would be SM
[ In Reply To ..]
irresponsible to want to go back to the policies that got us into this mess. As I said, it is the republicans who are pushing that idea. Until we stop the corruption and collusion with Wall Street and Congress, it is hard to believe anything will really change. I like some of Obama's ideas, such as rewarding companies who do not offshore and offering tax credits for hiring here. Those are progressive (not communist) ideas and they are a step in the right direction. We cannot go backward (regress) or the situation will just continue to worsen. I also have a problem with the phrase "creating more jobs" in this country. I think the important thing to consider is what kind of jobs? Minimum wage jobs? Just won't cut it. We need well paying jobs to protect the middle class IMO. I do not see how this will happen with offshoring as an option with no consequences. Actions speak louder than words so enough of the pandering to their constituents by both dems and repubs.
What republicans have said they want to - sm

go back to the policies that got us into this mess. Could you please post a link? I pay pretty close attention to what the candidates are saying, and I sure haven't heard anyone say they want too create a bigger mess.

Most people are not aware of the regulations and push for home ownership you mentioned which started with Clinton. If anyone bothered to go back and check, there was tremendous pressure applied for banks to push through the -0- down mortgages, no income verification, etc. Otherwise, "coummunity organizers" would show up and picket the banks, obstruct the entrance ways, along with several other tactics. The biggest offendes, Fannie, Freddie, Barney Frank (D), Chris Dodd(D) were insturmental in the collapse, were most responsible, and were never held accountable. Bush had legislation brought up in 2004, 2005 and 2007 to reign in Freddie and Fannie and Nancy Pelosi (D) refused to allow it on the floor for a vote. Then 2008 hit. Not every person is cut out to be a homeowner...they are so incapable of that responsibility, it would be like trying to teach a pig to fly. There is no shame in not wanting to own property. There is plenty of shame buying when you are not well equipped financially to do so, and then pulling all your neighbors down (and their home values) with you.
