Sorry to bug you all again, but I have another pie question

I am making a blueberry pie to take to my stepfather tomorrow, and I thought it would like nice to use a cookie cutter in the shape of a bell and apply that piece of crust to the top of the pie. If I use a little bit of water to attach it, will it bake to the top crust securely? A lot of you sound like you are pretty handy in the kitchen! The lemon sponge pie I made for Thanksgiving was wonderful. Thanks to the person who suggested the allrecipes.com website. The lemon sponge pie II did not get good reviews, but one poster suggested using the lemon sponge pie I. Very lemony and everyone loved it.

i think water will work just fine...i used to make those kinds of pies for my stepfather too...but there is a whiz of a site call sugarduchess.com...all she talks about is baked goods and her recipes are awesome...just made a banana almond pound cake yesterday (her recipe) and my neighbor came over to see if a bakery moved in...hehehe...can't wait to do her almond coconut cherry cookies on monday!!! good luck!!!

I've never used water, but it might work. My method has been to beat an egg white and use a pastry brush to brush a little on the back of the cutout and place it on the crust. You can also use the egg white over the crust to give it a glazed-like appearance. Hope your stepdad enjoys his pie!

Brush with egg white using a pastry brush and then I sprinkle with Sugar in the Raw or other large-granule sugar to give it a sparkly appearance.

I appreciate your help! Oh, my goodness. . . I just love the idea of the sugary glaze on the bell! (I think you mean to do the entire crust that way, which is wonderful, too.) I'm gettin' so darn good at this stuff I can hardly stand myself! Mom would be proud of me. I sure wish I would have watched her more carefully. She was the absolute best at baking. My stepfather misses watching her bake, and I know he will love this. Next time I will make it in his kitchen so he and Morry can watch!!

but that is a GREAT idea! Maybe even colored sugar? I was never Suzy Homemaker, but I started making pies last year and my family and extended family love them and ask for them. It makes me feel good to finally find something I'm good at and that others appreciate, so I know how you feel. I'm so happy for you, and I know your stepfather will love your pie!

All the supermarkets have it in little bottles, and sometimes in little plastic containers in the baking section for cookie decorating, etc. It is a larger more coarse sugar than regular granulated sugar. I've seen it in red, green, yellow, etc. It's a really nice touch. For Halloween I've seen orange, black, purple.

You can make colored sugar yourself by using those little bottles of dye that you dye easter eggs with. You can also use cake frosting coloring dye. That comes in all colors.

from allrecipes.com. It's Grandma Ople's apple pie. It has gotten so many raves from my family and my brother-in-law, who is difficult to please because he is a chef and a caterer, loves it. I used 1/2 granny smith apples and 1/2 honey crisp apples and he said the texture was perfect. I tried making my own crust, but must have failed because the family liked the pie with the Pillsbury refrigerated crust better.

Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here. While watching news today this just crossed my mind. If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills). One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth. I have an insurance Marketplace question. If my income turns out to be higher than expected for 2017, will I have to pay a penalty? My family and I are selling our house and moving out of state, but our house is going to sell before we actually move, so we have to rent a house for about 6 months. So, I went to look at a house over the weekend and was amazed! For $1300 a month, it was a 3 bedroom house, very old, and a total wreck.
