Don't know if you remember my last posts awhile back about a stray cat we started feeding and took care, gave her shelter for the winter and she had kittens. We've taken the kittens in and adore them all. Now...here she is 3 or 4 months later, every once in awhile I'll get a glimpse of her nursing them. Vet told us milk has to be dried up before they can fix her. However, she is a stray and she has been going out walking around the neighborhood like she has before we took care of her. We are feeding her (of course) and a lot. She eats about 3 of the small cans of cat food a day, plus dry. She looks healthy and she is sweet as anything. My question is now we see she is getting a bit of a stomach. We're thinking omg...if she is pregnant again I don't know what we'll do. We're pushing it with the 5 kittens and our poor inside one who can't stand other cats and we've been playing musical chairs with letting them in and her out, then them out and her in. It's getting pretty stressful. So...my question is....how do we tell if she is pregnant versus just gaining weight from eating a lot. If she is pregnant can we still have her fixed and if so what would that mean. 5 kittens and 2 cats is a lot to take care of and we are going through a lot of cat food/litter. I do not know what we'll do if she's pregnant again. Does anyone know how to tell and if she is just getting fatter from the food (keep our fingers crossed) is it safe to get her fixed if I've seen her nurse just a little bit (maybe a couple times a week for just a few minutes she will).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
