We all know that. Do we have to celebrate it constantly with special treatment? It's over. I do see it as dividing. People need to get over it. It's finished. Can't we all be one America? In particular, the history of a particular minority. You don't just "get over" history. You learn from it, you recognize struggles that have been overcome, and yeah, you even recognize the current state. Racism (as is evidenced so blatantly in the Romney campaign, as well as on this board) is alive and well, and to not recognize that fact is to go through life with blinders on. Not a good option if it is to actually one day be combatted.

Why is it you guys never have this problem when Jews revisit the horrors of their past? What about the hispanic caucus, or the tea party caucus? I wonder...

Most recently, trying to "purge" 30,000 folks off North Carolina rolls saying thse folks were dead. The state election commission, after spending an ungodly amount of resources on this goose chase has gone through this "list of the dead", and surprise of all surprises...turns out they have found that exactly 0 (as in zero) of these folks are dead. Nope...no slanting of the election there....

George Soros pledged to stop Bush in 2004 and now he might be throwing money at Media Matters to stop R&R.

Media Matters is a 501(c) organization but are NOT following the law where their tax exempt status is concerned, and should be investigated by the IRS. I won't go so far as to say they commit FRAUD, but they're pretty darn close. They're latest project is to try and shut down the Fox Network. If they can accomplish that, I will then know for sure that the present government does not believe in freedom of speech and we are now under censorship.

As for MSNBC, ah, yes. I'll hurry up and listen to Andrea Mitchell, Ed Schultz, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rachel Madcow and the others. They were smart enough to get rid of Olberman, but left even worse people in place!

You don't "get over" history, but if you wear it like a hair shirt, it rises beyond history and remains the present.

I didn't hear what Michelle Obama said or in what context, but if her mention of slavery was brought into present day context, then yes, I would say that it's a divisive statement.

As for racism on this board, acknowledging that I haven't participated very long, I'll say that I haven't seen any blatant racism. There are those will cry racism any time someone opposes Obama. It's an easy "out."

The tea party caucus is one that shares an ideology, having nothing to do with race. It's inappropriate and inaccurate to lump them in either other ethnic-specific caucuses.

Ethnicity is the very thing that has lead to slavery, Jim Crowe laws, racism itself. Obviously, it is the thing that is common to them, just like the members of tea party have things in common that bring them together. It is simply a group of people who have similar ideals and goals...just like every other caucus. The right's feigned ignorance about this only shows its true colors.

Whites are hardly under-represented. What would the purpose of a white caucus be? Should we get together and be angry that there are other races in our fine country? Perhaps we could limit the number of minorities so we are always on top. Maybe we could demand that whites be considered for high-paying jobs before the minorities get them - whether we are qualified or not!
