Media versus facts

Posted: Aug 24, 2013

As I read this forum a few times a week, first of all, I am convinced that some of those posting are only here for a fight and are not transcriptionists. I am not a political science student and I only know about the things that affect me and I know very little about those things that do not directly affect me in the world. Therefore, I must rely on television, internet and newspapers to fill me in. Years ago in high school, I learned how a journalist is supposed to tell a story. Never use any words that might even hint at how the journalist actually felt about the story they were telling. My challenge to you is to find such a journalist in today's news media. There are very, very few. I can still listen to Tom Brokaw and although he doesn't always say what I want to hear, I know that I can trust him to see both sides of an issue. Those types of journalists are long gone. Their liberal/conservative leanings all shine through either in the stories they tell or the stories they fail to tell and how they tell them. When I read posts on this board, I so often see repeated the news media's "catch phrases" that are created by the news media to sensationalize. Someone's blog should not be accepted as a "news source." It is not. There are certain commentators on our two favorites networks (Fox and MSNBC) that should never be quoted because they are simply on those networks to raise ratings. They are opinions - not facts - and we shouldn't use their rantings to try to make a point on this board. Those coming to this board and citing alternate sources of media should be ignored. They are irrelevant. Find a true news source and quote it and we will be happy to read and discuss it with you. Getting too long and I apologize. I have to get to work now. I am a transcriptionist......;

Hi, MT. So agree. Except I'd add TV news doesn't report - 98% of what's happening and for

[ In Reply To ..]
the 2% it provides only the shallowest possible coverage, and as you say often biased--in favor of offending as few customers as possible.

There are special exceptions here and there, and PBS is consistently much more informative, relatively speaking, but overall TV news is a disgrace to the term.

Another MT here.

13 Facts About Ferguson The Media Will Never Tell You Nov 26, 2014
According to protesters who erupted in violence after a grand jury declined to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., this was the case of a white policeman shooting an unarmed black teenager with his hands in the air in a community plagued by racial tension. That's an account promoted by many in the mainstream media as well. But here are several facts about the case that are harder to find:1. Surveillance video showed that shortly before the ...

11 Facts About The Eric Garner Case The Media Won't Tell YouDec 06, 2014
Sources in the mainstream media expressed outrage after a grand jury declined to indict a New York City policeman in the death of Eric Garner, but there are 11 significant facts that many of them have chosen to overlook: 1. There is no doubt that Garner was resisting an arrest for illegally selling untaxed cigarettes. Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik put it succinctly: "You cannot resist arrest. If Eric Garner did not resist arrest, the outcome of this case would have been ...

THAT Versus WHOAug 05, 2016
Has anyone else noticed how the doctors are dictating these days???  For example..."is a patient THAT injured himself while skiing"...what happened to "is a patient WHO injured himself while skiing"?   "That" seems so imipersonal when talking about a patient/human being. ...

IUD Versus TubalFeb 03, 2012
Does anyone have advice on the pros and cons of these 2 procedures?  I am so unsure of what to do.  I am 39 and sure I want no more children.  The price for the tubal is why I am hesitating.  I have a $2500 deductible to meet and then pay 20% after that.  The operation is anywhere from 6 to 8000.  I hesitate about the hormones in the IUD and other side effects I have read about.   ...

What You At First Thought The Doc Said VersusMay 17, 2017
My most memorable was a doctor I was transcribing who was obviously from India and had a very strong accent.  I was typing away with very little problem understanding him until he stated, "De peshent hez a heestorrrry of sorrrry asses."  He said it just like that, a heestorrrry of sorrrry asses.  After listening for the third time, I finally heard it; "a history of psoriasis."    ...

Olbermann Versus GoreApr 06, 2012
And Rush is still on the air. Ding. ding, ding.  Round #2..... LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Current TV on Friday counter-sued former host Keith Olbermann, claiming he failed to perform his duties for the progressive television network and saying it does not owe him "a dime" of the millions Olbermann claims he is owed. Current and Olbermann, who hosted his program "Countdown" on the network, have been locked in a war of words and legal filings since last week, when Current fired the comment ...

CRAT Versus ICANOct 07, 2011
I was thinking today how words that end in "crat" typically have a negative connotation... Bureaucrat Autocrat Aristocrat D _ _ _ crat Isn't it a bad idea to have a political party name ending in crat?  Of course the last 4 letters in Republican are I C A N.    ...

Style Versus SubstanceOct 04, 2012
Being the raging Liberal  that I am, I was feeling somewhat disappointed that President Obama did not slam Romney into the mat.  Then I reailzed that Obama was being Obama.  Obama gives cool, thoughtful, measured answers when he is discussiing things.  The debate was not a football game or wresting match where the loudest, longest, most forceful talker wiins.  I did think Romney looked a bit wild eyed and caffeined up.  I am thinking that his eyes looked l ...

Uber Versus Other Transporation From/toMar 25, 2016
When I fly I usually park at off site, catch shuttle but this summer am planning on being gone more than a couple of weeks. I have never taken Uber but found out this morning now they service both to and from my airport. I have used a company called Blue Shuttle from some airports and like that but if anybody can fill me in on the difference, if you know, I would appreciate the information. Hillary Versus Obama For PresidentFeb 20, 2014
When Obama and Hillary were up against each other for the Democratic nomination, my  thinking was that neither of them had the experience to be president of the United States.   The only office they held was a few years as a senator, no military service, didn't run a business, never ran a company, nothing.  My fears were borne out with Obama - 5 years later and he still doesn't know how to be a leader.  Now we talk about Hillary as if her dabbling in the senate ...

MEDICAL CODING/ANDREWS VERSUS ALLIEDAug 28, 2015

Southern Conservatives Struggling Over Economic Advancement VersusOct 21, 2012
is running into much the same intractable head-butting instead of sensible solutions here as the rest of the country. “I’ve been in politics for 30 years, and I saw firsthand after I was elected the split within the Democratic Party,” said Eric Johnson, who was in the Georgia legislature for 15 years. “Now you’ve got the rural conservative Republicans and the suburban moderates and libertarians. Handling Of Iran Versus Israel In ISIS ThreatSep 30, 2014
Netanyahu did his best yesterday to equate Iran with Hamas with ISIS--now will the administration buy it and go back to protect Israel at any cost or are we going to negotiate with Muslim countries to defeat ISIS?  If we don't negotiate with Muslim countries for this objective, I think it will definitely take a land invasion to get this done (otherwise labelled World War III).  I don't think the rest of the "coalition" is up for that--just don't think they will show up. ...

Opinions On College Dorms Versus Off-campus Housing Please...son Wants To Rent Next Year.Dec 15, 2009
My 18-year-old son is currently a freshman and staying on campus in a dorm with one roommate.  He's three hours from home.  Yesterday he called me and asked me if he could rent a house next school year with three other roommates.  It would be a lot cheaper but my main concern is safety and the neverending distractions he'll have that goes with living in a house full of people.  I told him we'd discuss it in a couple of days when he comes home for winter break.& ...

Older Women Versus Younger Women And Trump/ClintonOct 10, 2016
Women who "like" Trump are invariably older and don't like Hilary Clinton because they were raised in an era of economic competition with each for men. In the old days, men generally took care of their women, and some women lucked out with good men and some stuck it out with bad ones. Young women can take care of themselves economically so aren't as threatened by other women so they're more apt to go for HIllary. Older women also don't like Clinton because she stuck with her ...

Essure Tubal Versus Laparoscopic TubalMay 18, 2012

Vaccinations Versus "imprinting"Sep 08, 2015
