Hillary versus Obama for president

Posted: Feb 20, 2014

When Obama and Hillary were up against each other for the Democratic nomination, my  thinking was that neither of them had the experience to be president of the United States.   The only office they held was a few years as a senator, no military service, didn't run a business, never ran a company, nothing.  My fears were borne out with Obama - 5 years later and he still doesn't know how to be a leader.  Now we talk about Hillary as if her dabbling in the senate, flitting around the world as Secretary of State (and don't forget being First Lady) have made her the perfect person to be president.  In what world?  Show me her leadership skills - don't vote for her just because she is a woman.  Half the country voted for Obama because he was black.  History has shown that the presidents that we look back on that were able to accomplish the most in office were past governors of states - where they actually had to "govern" people.  Lets step carefully in 2016 and not jump immediately on the HIllary train.  It might be heading for derailment, just like the Obama train.

Jeez.. She was a U.S. senator, Secretary of State and a very "active" first lady with a tremendous amount of input even though her husband was the actual president. That definitely was a working partnership. How much more experience should she have:) I can understand not liking her, but she is certainly qualified, though maybe not the most likeable person.

George Jr. was a governor before he came to office and brought the country to its financial knees not to mention almost starting World War III. Too many bozos make it to governor without any real experience.

I think being governor stands for more than being a - senator for 10 minutes...

...as in Obama's case, who was really a senator in name only as he voted "present" on most issues. No on Hillary for me for all the reasons mentioned by the previous poster and then some!!!

factually incorrect about Obama's voting record - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
He voted "present" 129 times - a little over 3% of his total votes.
think of it this way - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Pretend you are asked a difficult question every single day of the year for eight years. A little less than one time per month, you are on the fence. That's a little more than 3%.
the math is correct - what's not to like

lol
He voted present 129 time in the ILLINOIS LEGISLATURE - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
As a U.S. SENATOR, from Jan 2005 to Oct 2008, Obama MISSED 314 of 1,300 roll call votes, which is 24.2%.

According to one source, a Senator cannot vote present. They are either not voting, or voting. Period.
I'm not following you, honest, but I was (sm) - Abby

looking for these FACTS. Thank you for saving me the time. Your posts are always factual and in this case, very timely too!
voting present is, in fact, allowed - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Because bills need "yes" votes to pass, "present" translates to "a soft no," as Deputy Republican Senate Leader Christine Radogno of Lemont put it. "One use for it is when you favor an idea, but you think the bill has a fatal flaw of some sort," she said. "Another is when you have a conflict of interest. And another is when you want to play both sides of the fence . . . or to avoid casting a vote that your next opponent will try to take out of context." Across the aisle, Sen. John Cullerton, a Chicago Democrat, defined "present" as "no with an explanation." Cullerton said another use of the seemingly squirrelly vote is to "signify displeasure with the process, but not the concept." He added that you'd be hard-pressed to find members of the General Assembly--including key allies of John McCain--who don't use it from time to time for various reasons.
If you watch the votes on C-Span there is NO way to vote Present - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
There is Yea, Nay, and NV (not voting). You cannot vote present in Congress.

You are still talking about ILLINOIS legislature. The OP was about Hillary vs. Obama for President where he was a U.S. Senator, not an Illinois Senator.

you're right, I understand - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The poster above referenced Obama voting present in the state legislature, so that's why I was talking about the state legislature.
Well, that's not allowed!!! Just kidding. - ;) nm

Flitting around the world as SOS? - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Just my opinion, but Secretary of State looks like one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Maybe more difficult than being president.

agree, and travelling globally is part of the job - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I wonder how many times Henry Kissinger was accused of "flitting" lol!

I don't think half the country voted for O - because he is black.

[ In Reply To ..]
If you have proof for that, I'll change my opinion, but it sounds like just words to me.

Are you trying to start a race riot? - What's with this board today?

[ In Reply To ..]

There's a difference betwen mentioning black/white/brown - and starting a riot. Get a grip

Race should be a nonissue. - I have a grip.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Yes, it should, - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
but race will never be a nonissue in this country. The OP stated, "Half the country voted for Obama because he was black." Since President Obama won in 2012 with 51.1% of the vote, that leaves only 1.1% who voted for him for some other reason. Perhaps I could opine that of Romney's 47.2% of the vote 46.1% of them voted for Romney for the same reason, "because he (Obama) is black" (although to be factually accurate I would have to say of mixed heritage). Frankly, I find it insulting that someone would rationalize the election of an African-American president in that way and go on to admonish people not to vote for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman.
What really gets me is this... - sm

1. No one alive today was a slave owner. We are all sorry for this blight on America and wish it could be undone. Unfortunately, it cannot.

2. I have never heard complaining from the Japanese who were stripped of everything they owned and placed in camps simply because they were Japanese.

3. I have never heard complaining from the Chinese who were forced to build the railroads for this country.

Can we please stop enabling the race war to continue on ad infinitum. It's got to end at some point. Let it start here, please!

Actually, the candidate we need is Elizabeth Warren. - But shes probably too smart to run.
