CRAT versus ICAN

Posted: Oct 7, 2011

I was thinking today how words that end in "crat" typically have a negative connotation...

Bureaucrat

Autocrat

Aristocrat

D _ _ _ crat

Isn't it a bad idea to have a political party name ending in crat?

Of course the last 4 letters in Republican are I C A N.

;

I heard that a long time ago- however, I do have to say - sm

I think it was funny awhile back. Kind of clever with the letters. But in reality there is no difference between the parties.

The democrats of the old days were good. But like the republican party the democrat party has been taken over by bad. The democrats of the Kennedy years are gone. They used to care about working for the people, now both parties pretty much only care about working to benefit themselves.

I think it's interesting to read the history of the political parties and realize that the party used to be called Democratic-Republican party. Now I wish it was all one party and that people ran on the good things they have done in their career. Now it's becoming the next civil war between democrats and republicans.

But all in all letters are just letters. I'm sure if I searched long enough I'd find a good word ending with crat. Also there are bad words ending in ican too.

I liked Kennedy... - hmmm

and I really didn't dislike Clinton all that much, although the scandals were a bit of an embarrassment.

I think you're right, that the parties have both degenerated from what they once were. I think money is a big issue. The Democrats can complain about "fat cats" on Wall Street all they want, but in the end they will still take their campaign contributions.

I think right now any idea is automatically judged by whether the person proposing it has an (R) or a (D) after their name, and that is sad.

While I consider myself a Republican with some Libertarian ideas, if anybody had a constructive way to fix the economy or get back to job creation, I'd listen to them. I've even voted for a few Democrats in the past. (Shh...don't tell anyone. :P)

You are totally right on - however, I do have to say - sm

Actually the scandels are what I liked about Clinton. LOL. The rest of his presidency was awful. So many people out of work, losing their homes, etc. My taxes skyrocketed and during his entire 8 years I was in the poor house. I didn't like his exaggerated laughter, the way he played the cameras acting concerned and sad about events (2 in particular I remember) and he'd be very solemn and concerning on camera and when he thought he wasn't in view of the camera he was laughing and joking and when he looked over and saw the camera in an instant he went from laughter to having a serious sad look on his face. He was so phony just really got to me. That and being in the poor house all the time AND I voted for him once. Shame on me :-) Now that time has gone by I can look at him without getting nauseous and I have been researching to see if he did anything good while in office. Truthfully I have found he did some good things, but I don't ever want to go back to a time like that again. It was awful. Now he just seems sad, bitter, and a bit out of touch with reality and it's sad to see.

I think it is really sad what has become of politics, and you are right. If an idea comes up the only thing people want to know now a days is if a D or R proposed it. I think many good ideas are passed over just because a D or R came up with it.

I'm not sure what I would consider myself as falling into a party. I guess nothing. To me politics is like a religion. I just don't fit in anywhere. In my life I have voted for 4 democrats, 4 republicans and once I didn't vote. However for some reason people label me a republican. Don't know why. I don't go to church and wish religion and politics would stay separate. I'm for gay marriage, but think if you are going to join the military who your sexual partner is should not be a topic that would even come up. I'm like you too...anyone who has any ideas on how to fix the economy and get jobs back and balance the budget, stop the wars, and make sure our country is safe I will listen to them and not put what party affiliation they belong to first before I decide whether its a good idea or not.

I would love nothing better than to do away with the parties and have the president voted on for what they have done. Or better yet keep the parties, but instead whoever wins is P and whoever doesn't is VP, and if anything was ever to happen to the P then he wouldn't be replaced with the VP, but instead another person of the same party.

Okay, that's all for my soap box.
Could not care less about Clinton scandals - sm

or who he slept with, but all his promises that NAFTA would be so beneficial for the American worker proved what a world-class liar he really is.
All presidents had - sm

their bad things. I liked Clinton. I was working, the economy was doing well, we had a surplus. NAFTA was his bad thing. Regan had high taxes and more tax incrases than anyone, though many praise him, GW Bush had the war, and many praise him, Obama has Obamacare, which many don't like (I do). None of them are perfect and everybody sees them differently. My Dad hates democrats because he says they want to take his guns away. LOL That is his only reason. I think you have to look at the overall job the person is doing and trying to do be support a candidate. I support Obama and agree with the Obamacare, though, I do think it needs tweeking. I believe all of their problems are that when one party has a plan they feel is good, the other side downs it without even looking at it because it is the "other side." I also believe there should be no parties, just people working together for the good of the country. I may not agree with all the things they do but it has to be for the good of the country as a whole, not just the rich or not just the poor. JMHO

I feel the same way about the "ist" in - "transcriptionist".

IUD Versus TubalFeb 03, 2012
Does anyone have advice on the pros and cons of these 2 procedures?  I am so unsure of what to do.  I am 39 and sure I want no more children.  The price for the tubal is why I am hesitating.  I have a $2500 deductible to meet and then pay 20% after that.  The operation is anywhere from 6 to 8000.  I hesitate about the hormones in the IUD and other side effects I have read about.   ...

Olbermann Versus GoreApr 06, 2012
And Rush is still on the air. Ding. ding, ding.  Round #2..... Style Versus SubstanceOct 04, 2012
Being the raging Liberal  that I am, I was feeling somewhat disappointed that President Obama did not slam Romney into the mat.  Then I reailzed that Obama was being Obama.  Obama gives cool, thoughtful, measured answers when he is discussiing things.  The debate was not a football game or wresting match where the loudest, longest, most forceful talker wiins.  I did think Romney looked a bit wild eyed and caffeined up.  I am thinking that his eyes looked l ...

Hillary Versus Obama For PresidentFeb 20, 2014
When Obama and Hillary were up against each other for the Democratic nomination, my  thinking was that neither of them had the experience to be president of the United States.   The only office they held was a few years as a senator, no military service, didn't run a business, never ran a company, nothing.  My fears were borne out with Obama - 5 years later and he still doesn't know how to be a leader.  Now we talk about Hillary as if her dabbling in the senate ...

Southern Conservatives Struggling Over Economic Advancement VersusOct 21, 2012

Handling Of Iran Versus Israel In ISIS ThreatSep 30, 2014
Netanyahu did his best yesterday to equate Iran with Hamas with ISIS--now will the administration buy it and go back to protect Israel at any cost or are we going to negotiate with Muslim countries to defeat ISIS?  If we don't negotiate with Muslim countries for this objective, I think it will definitely take a land invasion to get this done (otherwise labelled World War III).  I don't think the rest of the "coalition" is up for that--just don't think they will show up. ...

Older Women Versus Younger Women And Trump/ClintonOct 10, 2016
Women who "like" Trump are invariably older and don't like Hilary Clinton because they were raised in an era of economic competition with each for men. In the old days, men generally took care of their women, and some women lucked out with good men and some stuck it out with bad ones. Young women can take care of themselves economically so aren't as threatened by other women so they're more apt to go for HIllary. Older women also don't like Clinton because she stuck with her ...
