Smoking versus eCig or Vaporizing

Posted: Mar 14, 2014

Has anyone tried to stop smoking by switching to either an eCig (such as NJoy or Blu) or a vaporized smoking device?  Curious as to whether either of these is a viable aid in smoking cessation.

;

I have a couple different types of ecigs - see msg

But I quit over 4 yrs ago with Chantix and I was a pack per day smoker. An entire year went by before I got an electric cigarette. I wasn't really having cravings, it was more the mental aspect of it, the pacify effect that I got from smoking that I missed and for that reason, I bought an ecig.

It served the purpose 100% for me and I still use them. They don't stink like cigarettes do, they are pretty much odorless and the vapor disappears rather quickly when you exhale, it doesn't linger in the ai like cigarette smoke and you can get them with or without nicotine and they sale the refil e-liquid in a variety of strengths of nicotine for people who are trying to wean off or down on the nicotine. They also come in a variety of flavors from traditional flavors like menthol, tobacco, coffee, cappuccino, pretty much ALL fruit flavors like watermelon, cherry, grape, bananr and other flavors like vanilla, chocolate, caramel, wine, pretty much any flavor you can dream up...you name it they got it.

If you are an actual smoker trying to quit, don't mess around with the cheap brands or the disposables; get yourself a good one, the rechargeable kind that you fill with your own liquid donte mess around with the cartridges, you want the ones that come with a "clearomizer" or "cartomizer." I recommend the "Phoenix" or "Itaste" those two are the best on the market either one of those or any standard "Ego" type batteries which have become pretty common and fairly popular. Stay away from the standard cigarette style battery; which are the slim ones like blu and njoy - they are the worst ob the market, don't produce much vapor and the use cartridges which are a huge waste of money and almost as expensive as smoking. Anymore questions just ask, I'll be to answer if I can.

I love NJoy King, but works out more expensive than cigs. - So I went back to cigarettes.

I would invest in the refillable kits, but what I liked about NJoy was that it was the same size and almost feel of a cigarette. I am afraid the vaping kits would include a device too big to be cigarette-like enough for me. I do need to look into it further though because I need to quit the smokes.

Njoy is not a good brand - sm

If you have a tec ecigs near you they carry the slim batteries that are the size of a real cigarette and they have the smaller clearomizers that you fill yourself to fit them, they are push button, which works much better and produces lots of vapor. I would say ur best bet is to go to the mall or a store that sales mainly ecig stuff. There are a variety of good products out there to accommodate what ur looking for. You can buy on-line, but I like to see what I'm getting personally versus looking at a picture. Once you get a decent refillable kit, it's loads cheaper than smoking because a bottle of e-liquid 10 or 15 mL can last a couple weeks and the store where I buy my liquid, it's $6.35 for a 15 mL bottle. So even if you went through a bottle a week, thats not bad considering a pack of cigarettes costs anywhere from $6 to $8 so for two to three packs a week, thats $16 to $24 a week. You could buy enough e-liquid to refill your ecig for a month with that.

I bet it was the cartridges that were costing a fortune. - Dont bother with cartridges, even

[ In Reply To ..]
The refillable ones, they're a rip-off and they eat up all your liquid.

Check with ur local mall, that's where I got - mine and they warranty SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Them usually so it anything ever happens to it, they replace them for free. Also a lot of cigarette stores have them, just no warranty. But you can get a good Ego style battery with refillable clearomizer and charger for $20 and most brands who don't carry a warranty will replace their products free of charge if you email them or call their 800 number. It's much cheaper to use an ecig than it is to smoke.

Question - Ex Smoker

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm an ex-smoker, having quit in 1987, but I thought "vaping" and ecigs were the same. What is the difference?

There are "vaping" stores opening up all over the place where I live.

I am still wondering - What is vaping?

[ In Reply To ..]
I had always thought vaping and ecigs were the same, and now I'm seeing here they're not. I just am curious.

Thanks!

First, congratulations on wanting to quit! That decision alone is huge. I quit 2 years ago for the obvious health reasons, but I also have a friend who is dying of ovarian cancer. I was going to be paying her a week-long visit, and I decided there was no possible way I could sit and visit with her as she was trying to hold onto every second on this planet she could, then excuse myself and go outside and throw my life away, in front of her.

At the same time (months before the visit), I came down the flu, the real thing, influenza. I decided that since I was going to feel like holy heck for the next 4-5 days, I may as well quit at the same time and get through the withdrawal with little notice, by virtue of feeling so badly with the flu. It worked. However, after flu went away, I had to address my daily habits and routines to wipe out the triggers. I used lozenges for a while (the "oral" habit, if you will), and then just stopped them as well.

In the meantime, I began to build up the side business I had (lots of art/crafting) which gave me an outlet for the amazing amount of time I found I had after quitting. Just do whatever it takes to shake up your daily routine. Have something like a lozenge (doesn't have to be nicotine) to pop into your mouth when an urge hits, or get outside if weather permits and walk a couple of blocks, or vacuum, or anything to deflect the trigger.

You will be amazed at how good you will feel within a week or so. The "chamber orchestra" that plays in your chest (wheezes, etc.) begin to go away. You will begin coughing a bit more. Sorry, this is the gross part, but you will begin to cough up the tars and garbage coating your lungs as your body begins to heal itself.

Every day that goes by without smoking you will feel better and better, not only physically, but mentally as well as more oxygen makes it to your brain.

Lastly, one of the things that kept me from starting again was something I saw on the show, The Mentalist. He made a comment to a woman standing outside smoking that every time she lights up, she should picture a fat old tobacco CEO gleefully rubbing his hands in delight watching the $$ roll in. Worked for me!

As to the question (sorry about the rambling), personally, just in my humble opinion, I think using ecigs, etc. are merely prolonging the habit itself. In addition, there are chemicals in those, and while not as many as in real cigarettes, stuff that nonetheless really doesn't need to be in the human body. We swim in a chemical soup on a daily basis as it is. Why not eliminate some more? :)

Trying To Quit Smoking..Sep 09, 2011
I've been an active smoker for 15 years. I grew up in a smoker's household, so I don't know what it's like to live without cigarettes around. I've tried to quit a few times, but never could get past the three-day hump. I've realized though, that I smoke to self-medicate ADD and depression, so I think that will make a difference this time. Any one have any advice/suggestions? I don't want to go to the Dr. and get medications for the ADD/depression--to me, ...
