Jon Stewart v. Rush Limbaugh. :)

Posted: May 14, 2014

I can't believe Rush can't find anything better to complain about than an awareness campaign regarding over 200 kidnapped girls. It was a South African activist who started this campaign (although the misinformed are claiming Michelle Obama started it) and these days, Twitter campaigns have played a leading role in spreading information in a world where people seem to have technology-induced ADD. Not to mention the fact that the President caught flack for sending assistance to Nigeria (because some believe there is no hope for the girls or that we should take care of our own first), and also caught flack for not sending troops.

Rush thinks a hashtag is pathetic? Complaining about an awareness hashtag is pathetic. Which is the greater waste of time???

On his radio show over the past week, Limbaugh has railed against the Twitter campaign. In particular, he singled out first lady Michelle Obama, who took a photo holding a sign with the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag. The radio host called the first lady’s gesture “pathetic.”

The campaign has used the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls to offer sympathy to the children’s families and to push for greater efforts to recover the girls. Many U.S. and international political figures have embraced the campaign.

Stewart said that people should choose between Limbaugh and Malala Yousafzai, the 16-year-old Pakistani activist who survived an attack from the Taliban and who has also supported the Twitter campaign.

#BringBackOurGirls - Too simplistic maybe?

[ In Reply To ..]
That's what I thought.

I'm not sure what you mean. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
.

Sorry, I'm not getting baited anymore. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I have no idea if you are the one who keeps baiting people and then says she is misread or misunderstood when we try to explain things. If you're not that person, I apologize for not answering your question. If you are that person, sorry, time's up. No more feed for you.
I haven't been on much lately because I'm - recovering from surgery.
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know what person you're talking about, but your comment was vague and I wanted clarification before I responded. I'd rather ask for clarification than make an inappropriate response.

Okay... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The first lady sending a message to some low-life cowards on a cardboard sign to bring back our girls is simplistic. Does anyone think the terrorists are going to listen to her?
I don't think anyone expects the terrorists to - change their minds over a hashtag.
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you honestly believe that's the point? The point is to spread the word about a situation that requires attention across the world, and social media has been proven to be one of the fastest ways to do that.
As if the world didn't already know? - It's absurd.
[ In Reply To ..]
We all have different opinions. That's mine.
Actually, the world didn't know for some time - because the Nigerian president
[ In Reply To ..]
was trying to keep the situation under wraps. This is the age where Twitter helped spark a revolution in Egypt. The woman who started #BringBackOurGirls knew this needed to be brought to the light before Goodluck Jonathan would accept assistance.
The campaign is a way of NOT - letting the issue die
[ In Reply To ..]
by keeping it in the minds of people all around the world, who will then keep the pressure on elected officials to assist.

Regarding Rush, you have to really wonder about an agenda that would attempt to vilify or ridicule such a noble effort. I would mention to you that Amnesty International simple letter writing campaign has accomplished amazing results from merely better treatment for those incarcerated to actually helping to free prisoners. Check it out on their site ;)

I think pathetic is the correct word. (sm) - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Can you see the Islamist Extremist terrorists seeing the little signs and running with the girls to the exits? I mean, really.

It's not meant to be directed to the terrorists. - Of course they don't care

[ In Reply To ..]
about a hashtag. It's meant to raise awareness across the world, which it has helped do. Furthermore, Michelle Obama didn't start the campaign, she simply showed her support.
So is it working? This raising awareness? - Defending Rush
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Well, the Nigerian president has finally accepted - assistance and more countries
[ In Reply To ..]
are now involved with the situation. I would dare say raising awareness is a no-brainer as far as confronting issues. Again, I don't see how this is cause for criticism. What is the harm in it?
yes, evidently - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

Remember Rush is playing to the audience - he is PAID to play

[ In Reply To ..]
dittoheads and other non-thinkers listen to him because they KNOW he will say what they want to hear.

Because it comes over the radio airwaves it gives LEGITIMACY (in this group's mind).

and the profiteers are the people who pay Rush AND Rush.

just saying never be surprised by the nothingness these windbags offer up - it is just their PATHETIC jobs.

Oh I see and Stewart is not playing to the - audience he is PAID to play to

[ In Reply To ..]
nm

They are both paid to play to their audience. - The sad part is what Rush's

[ In Reply To ..]
audience wants to hear.
Short sweet and spot on... - but I will say this
[ In Reply To ..]
I see Stewart as more an entertainer versus a propagandist.

And I think he takes swings at both sides if I am not mistaken.

Sorry, but I asked this last week and I still don't have an answer (sm) - Hashtag

[ In Reply To ..]
How many girls have been brought back because of Michelle's cardboard signs?

None, yet. Does that mean the campaign doesn't - serve a purpose?

[ In Reply To ..]
It's about raising awareness and it has done that. There are more countries involved in this situation now and the Nigerian president has finally agreed to allow assistance. That may not all be due to the campaign, but it sure hasn't hurt. So I don't see why anyone is complaining.

He is saying it shows how weak The Won is. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Why does it show weakness? We have taken - action in addition to the First Lady's
[ In Reply To ..]
support of #BringBackOurGirls, as have other countries.
I hate when people call her that. - me
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Well, that doesn't really have anything to do - with this.
[ In Reply To ..]
And regardless of your personal feelings about it, she is the First Lady and that is her proper title.
I have total respect for this - FIRST LADY!
[ In Reply To ..]
what is not to like? She is gorgeous, super intelligent, a great mom, wife, patriot!

Her campaign for fitness is totally commendable - obesity is killing Americans! and very expensive to treat.
Please ask the first lady to hashtag this. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
#PlightofAmericanMedicalTranscriptionists.

Maybe she can help us, too.
The plight is shared by many - thank you, capitalism!
[ In Reply To ..]
and before anyone calls me 'commie' or ask what I think is better, I am just pointing out that our system of UNLIMITED PROFIT is part of what is driving our jobs away and/or cutting our pay.

The fact of the matter is is that with progress (technology) and our system where companies are motivated to make $$ jobs like ours will be marginalized. One can either roll with the changes (adapt) leave the industry, lobby for changes with Congress... etc.

I hate it as much as anyone for what its worth.
LOL - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Yeah, let's see how much this president... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
...values the American worker. (This is in spite of what that dastardly Bushman did.)
He better value us. We are the ones paying for - all his entitlement programs.
[ In Reply To ..]
However, he doesn't realize that he is undercutting the middle class by all his tax and spend liberalism, i.e., social programs = socialism, share the wealth, blah, blah, blah.
Here's one for Michelle - HASHTAG protect our borders and - stop releasing the scum. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
Tell hubby. Then get your cardboard signs ready.
I'll provide the cardboard! - Great post!!!
[ In Reply To ..]
I almost fell over the other day when I heard about the latest prisoners released. The worst of the worst are now back on our streets, murderers, child molesters, rapists, etc. Disgusting!
Can I say "here, first lady, hashtag THIS!"? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

Of course, and we can put whatever we like on our cardboard. - me

Taken from a segment on Countdown on Wednesday.  Laurence O'Donnell speaking about MSNBC and Keith Olbermann's involvment in the free health clinics that are being set up all over the country.  The comparison between Keith Olbermann's personal contribution and Rush Limbaugh's over so generous contribution of a product he didn't even pay for should say it all.  I guess the $400 million dollar man can't afford to give something personally . . . . By David Edwards and Daniel TencerMonday, January 18th, 2010 -- 10:54 am Ann Coulter is jealous of the attention Rush Limbaugh has been getting since making his comment about the Obama administration wanting to exploit the Haitian tragedy to "burnish" his credentials with the black community. So she's making a conscious effort to out-controversy the controversial radio host, and on Fox News on Sunday, she didn't make much effort to keep that a secret. "Stop asking about Rush's ...

The GOP Must Choose: Rush Limbaugh Or Minority Voters. SmNov 11, 2012
Rush Limbaugh is confused. He just can't understand why the Republican Party has so much trouble with blacks, Hispanics and women. Here's how he put it on his nationally syndicated radio show, channeling the way that a lot of conservatives are feeling after looking at the demographic breakdown of Election 2012: We have achieved, brilliant, highly accomplished African-Americans, blacks, Hispanics, you name it, throughout the Republican Party. They serve in office. Many of them ar ...

During a recent broadcast, he vowed to "go to Costa Rica" if President Obama is successful in passing his health reform legislation.
