If Romney is elected president will he be the first

US president not to be sworn in on the Bible?

;

If Mitt gets elected, we'll have a lot more to worry - about than the swearing-in process.

No. Why would he? - sm

Mormons regard the Old Testament as the word of God. The Book of Mormon is a religious text.

So they don't like the New Testament? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm confused now.

they are cool with the new testament as well - nm

We have a lot more to be worried about if Obama gets in power again - Sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you think by saying something like that people won't vote for him. Kind of a poor scare tactic.

My sister is Mormon. She said they follow book of mormon AND the bible. I particularly don't care if he is sworn in on the BOM or bible. The purpose of swearing in doesn't change.

Besides, we have a lot more to worry about if Obummer gets in again than what religious book he is sworn in on.

I think all presidents should be sworn in on the - US Constitution. nm

Romney-bible - Mormon member

[ In Reply To ..]
We use the bible in conjunction with the Book of Mormon in our teachings and we always have a bible with us when we go to Sunday religious study. When we stand up and give sermons on Sundays (each member is chosen to do that) we also use the Book of Mormon and the bible. Based on that, I am sure he will be sworn in on the bible.

Still it's kind of creepy that you folks hold another book as equal to the bible. - Sorry but it is.

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you see the Book of Mormon as the word of God?

I don't see it as creepy at all - other poster

[ In Reply To ..]
It's just another set of teachings to go along with bible scripture. Just another set of beliefs. Not a Mormon, but this is my understanding.
I agree - but
[ In Reply To ..]
I do think it's kinda creepy to use the word "creepy" when responding to a well-intentioned, polite and helpful post providing information relative to the thread from an individual who just happens to embrace different religious beliefs. Religious intolerance is such a drag.

Bible - capital B - dw

[ In Reply To ..]
Anyone who believes the Bible is the Word of God capitalizes "Bible," correct?

No, that's not correct - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe the bible is the word of God and I don't capitalize the B all the time. Pretty much just because I'm lazy. LOL And now because of your message I will make sure I never capitalize the letter. ROFL. I believe God knows in my heart it is the work of Him and I'm sure he doesn't care whether or not I capitalize the word. I just don't like the spelling police pointing out which words people need to capitalize.

You posted just to correct someone's spelling? Really, it's not that important. Whether someone writes Bible or bible we know what it is.

Here's an example of a text taken from a religious website:

"If you want to find some awesome bible verses about life, then you have come to the right place for facts, tips, and benefits for spiritual reflection."

I'm pretty much sure they believe the bible is the works of God.
Please don't take offense . . . - it's just a question.
[ In Reply To ..]
I was just wondering why people capitalize Book of Mormon and not capitalize Bible, even when used in the same sentence.
No offense taken - my answer - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't speak for others, but for me I don't capitalize book of mormon. If I was writing a letter or sending something out and the word Bible, Book of Mormon or whatever I would probably capitalize it, but here because my reports have to be correct that little rebel in me will not always capitalize on this board. My viewpoints on the bible also question it's validity. While I believe some of it is the work of God, a lot of it I don't think is. Again my own personal opinion and would be a conversation for a different board. So, I always capitalize God, and i don't capitalize bible or bom. Unless I feel motiivated to hold that shift key down. LOL

I don't capitalize bible because I don't believe in it. - ;)

[ In Reply To ..]

I don't think it matters what they are sworn in on - It's what they do while in the ofc - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
They can be sworn in on any book they want, but it's how they hold themselves while in office is what matters.

As an example, look at the people who are sworn in to testify in court. They are sworn on the bible to tell the truth. Do they always? No, there are many of them that lie, so swearing on the bible means nothing to some people.

To me I like swearing in on the bible because that's how it's always been done. I like the idea of swearing in on the constitution even better, but again it is the individual person. As we can see some don't take the oath as serious as others. Look at the wars started not to defend our country but for other reasons and other examples of people in the position not following the constitution and doing what is best for the country.

So they can be sworn in on any holy book they want to be sworn in on. The individuals integrity and how he conducts himself while in the position is what is important to me.

And those are just my thoughts.

What if.

When he was sworn in as governor, he used a Bible. - Zville MT

Don't see why this would be any different.

What LDS (Mormons) believe about the Bible - You Asked, I'm Telling You

[ In Reply To ..]
I am a member of the LDS (Mormon) Church. The subtitle of the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the word of God. The Book of Mormon is a second witness (Matthew 18:16, 2 Corinthians 13:1) to the divinity of Jesus Christ, who we believe is our Savior and Redeemer. So to answer your question, yes, Mitt Romney will be sworn in using a Bible. And FYI, Mormon is a nickname. The official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or LDS Church).

Is it true Mormons believe there are many gods? - nm

The truth about "magic underwear" - You Asked, I'm Telling You
[ In Reply To ..]
What you call "magic underwear" we refer to as temple garments. They are worn as a reminder of sacred promises we make to God in our holy temples. To summarize those promises, we vow to live the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Many religious groups wear some type of clothing to remind them of their devotion to God. Think of Jewish yarmulkes, or the habits and wimples of Catholic nuns. We simply choose to wear our reminders privately, under our regular clothing.

What LDS (Mormons) believe about God - You Asked, I'm Telling You

[ In Reply To ..]
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Eternal Father. (Matthew 3:17, Matthew 26:39, John 3:16). God the Father created worlds without number. He is infinite and eternal. This world was created by Jehovah (Jesus Christ) under the direction of God the Father. Since Christ is the Savior of this world and gave His life for our sins, and has bought us with his blood, we pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. He is our intercessor. We believe that through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be cleansed of our sins, and thereby return to live in Heaven.

Glad to see your post - Conservative
