Despite these verifiable facts, there are those who would continue to throw hand over fist more and more and more up to those top 10 percenters, to their own detriment, I might add. I just really dont get it.

Have you noticed how every time - sm

you post stats such as these, a hush settles over the crowd and you can almost hear a pin drop?

What I totally enjoy - is how it is buried.

[ In Reply To ..]

Do you also enjoy being a bottom feeder while the top 10 - keep you and your family flatlined?

Just curious.
Speaking for myself, I'm tired of it and am glad the unions - are there for people. nm

it took all of 3 minutes of research to find that EPI is a left-leaning organization.

Lawrence Mishel is president of the Economic Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., a progressive think-tank that seeks to advance the interests of American workers. He has been at EPI since 1987, first serving as Research Director, then as Vice-president and in 2002 became President.

Even better is this tidbit:

Paul Krugman, a Nobel laureate in economics and a noted progressive columnist, argued in Nov. '08 that, given the centrist makeup of President Barack Obama's economic inner circle, the new Economic Recovery Advisory Board could be used to "give progressive economists a voice," and mentioned Mishel among others as a progressive economist who might be suitable for the board.

Must be why CNN picked on this as newsworthy - almost right wing, ya know

and discover the impeccible methodology used in the study that produced this graph. Seems the real source is final IRS tax statistics, a nonpartisan institution whose records are available to the public 24/7/365 for those among us interested in getting at the truth. Why, I bet even Paul Krugman would endorse the IRS.

If voluntary ignorance floats your boat, go for it. If not, then scroll down to the bottom of the graph, copy and paste the link embedded in the source shadow box and take a gander at the bottom of the page that it brings up. That is, if its not too much trouble.

These petty snipes do nothing whatsoever to change the facts, that most dreaded F word.
yeah, it's too much trouble - independentMT

Before I get worked up about a study or anything of the sort, I will verify who is behind the numbers - right or left. That's all I need. Call it voluntary ignorance if you want, but I call it knowing where the agenda is coming from.

By the way, I never said the chart was wrong. I want to know who is putting together the information. We all know that numbers can be interpreted to favor one side or the other. It's not difficult to do - ask any actuary.

I never criticized the EPI or even the president of the organization. I merely pointed out that it is a left-leaning group. So what? He's probably a great guy and the organization probably does some good things - I don't know for sure. I'm not familiar with the group, so I did a quick search to see what the background it.

Petty snipes? My goodness, take a deep breath and lighten up.
Do tell. This is pretty simple math here. - sm

Compile individual income totals as reported to IRS, which does not lean left or right, break them out into top 1, 1-5, 5-10 and bottom 90 percentile clusters, determine which groups income rose and which declined, construct pie chart of top 10 percent and entitle it income growth, slice the pie and notice that the smaller your group percentile is, the greater piece it gets. Since the bottom 90 percent saw their incomes decline over the same amount of time, construct X-Y axis graph and compare each groups rise and fall ratio.

A hand calculator is all you need to do these numbers, which also do not lean left or right, nor do they lie. These are simple percentages that make a clear statement. No actuary is required. A 9th grader could easily do this.

If you are content to see your income decline year after year after year while the top tiers suck our economy dry, knock yourself out. Just dont expect the rest of us to sit around on our duffs moaning about how much trouble it is to get worked up over being screwed over.

Bottom 90% here, too. Couldn't even see it, - until I looked really close.

A Really Neat Graph For You To Look AtMar 21, 2011
It's an approval poll that compares all the presidents from Truman through Obama. You can move your pointer across at the bottom to find out what happened for the highs and lows. For instance, the Bay of Pigs is highlighted, as is Viet Nam. If you move your pointer up or down on the graph, it will give you the total percentage and you don't have to try to figure it out by yourself. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/presidential-approval-tracker.htm ...

Here Is The Encore Posting Of An Awesome GraphJun 30, 2011
I was amazed it fit into the message box, but found out it would accommodate the size of graph by creating a slide bar at the bottom.  It was originally posted in an earlier thread where tax rates before and after Ws tax cuts for the wealthy were being discussed.  What I like about it is the historical data (wars, economic conditions, etc) that it incorporates and how it shows the presidents along with the years corresponding to the various tax rate fluctuations. &n ...

Tea Party Republicans Love Love Love Ted CruzOct 18, 2013
even among Republicans, according to a survey from Pew Research. But the group is still potent within the Republican Party — which means that Sen. Ted Cruz gets a bit of good news on an otherwise bleak day. "Tea Party" is a necessarily vague affiliation. There are members of Tea Party groups, of course, but Pew largely had to allow poll respondents to self identify. And a lot of Republicans did so. About four-in-ten (41%) Republicans and Republican leaners agree with the Tea Pa ...

"Who Killed American Unions?" Powerful Graph Shows Shows Middle Class IncomeJan 17, 2013
From The Atlantic: "Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker doesn't like unions, and unions don't like him. But the most remarkable thing about Walker's relationship to labor isn't that he thinks unions are worthless -- most Republicans agree -- but that he thinks about them, at all. Today, unions have been swept into dusty corners of the U.S. workforce, such as Las Vegas casino cleaners and New York City hotel staff. For much of the 20th century, things were different. A ...

McKinney Texas -- And Pretty Much Jun 09, 2015
If you haven't followed, the attached is an interview of the boy who shot the fairly famous video showing the actions in McKinney, Texas. McKinney, Texas needs to distance itself from this officer, fire him and admonish his actions as unacceptable. We see this type of psychology everywhere. Black teens are more severely punished in school for the same infractions as white children. Blacks are followed in stores more often than whites. There is a whole culture of suspicion and a ...

Thanksgiving Was Pretty Good Here. I Just Have One Gripe.Nov 25, 2010
Do NOT bake an apple pie in a convention oven.  LOL  The top crust never browned even though I baked it for 50 minutes. I wound up putting it under the broiler for 3-4 minutes, watching carefully that it didn't burn. Other than that, it was pretty good and I'm proud as it was the first time in 20 years I baked any pie since my oven burns everything on the bottom (that's why I never baked in all those years). Otherwise, things went quite well for us. Everything was ...

I broke it off with my ex about 3 months ago which, believe me, was a wonderful thing.  It seemed at the end he ignored everyone and his primary goal in life was working and then smoking pot and passing out at home.  I really had no where to go.  I moved from GA to TN in with my parents.  So for a little while there were 7 of us in a 3bd/1bath house.  My mom works 3rd shift and I couldnt find a place to live fast enough so we decided to let the kids go visit their dad in ...
