Think about it. We're not talking about some "other" people who live on the other side of the highway. We've talking about our own relatives here, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, a fair number of the people at most parties most of us are likely to attend. Our best friend's husband.
Or, in my case, the wife of a prosperous businessman who drives what just may be the most expensive car in town, well groomed, charming, popular. At a fairly recent garden club meeting, someone handed her something and asked her to read it to us. She hesitated, her lips moving as she tried to make it past the header, but ended up having to pretend her eyes were "acting up again." I hoped others didn't realize what happened (most people are unaware of just how high our semi-literacy rates are), but she'd been standing next to me expertly pricking out tiny seedlings shortly before.
So, before you go assuming it's "those" people who can't read, you might want take a look around your own neighborhood.

This is how nasty rumors get started, and I personally heard him standing up for gun owners when he spoke.
This is just one of the many lies told about Obama in order to get the red states' support.
If you perpetuate this kind of deception, you will lose the respect of those who know you. I don't care one way or another what you believe, but I do care if someone thinks I'm stupid enough to believe all the hatemongering talk, then that person is wrong.
