I'm an MT who took early retirement

I have arthritis in my hands and back, progressive eye problems and high blood pressure. After losing several close family members who were in their early 70s, I became extremely depressed working for one of the MTSOs, and I decided I should make the best of my remaining life and decided to take the early retirement to ease the pressure. My part time IC job and retirement income is about $22,000 a year and I have a tiny nest egg stashed away for emergencies.

My plan was working--having health insurance through our state ACA exchange, not a lot of extra money, but I feel like I am recovering from basically PTSD. Now the senate is lookinig at passing Trump's health plan that is supposed to be so great. Under this plan, it looks like my health insurance may be around $12,000 (if I can even get insurance). Most of the other people in my apartment complex have similar stories--my friend with multiple sclerosis, another almost blind from diabetes. What are these lawmakers thinking? Don't they have any idea how a many of our citizens live? I can't believe these people are so willing to throw away so many people who have been in the working and productive all their lives, just to be treated like this. How is this making America Great Again? They make me sick--literally--I think I am getting an ulcer with worry on how I will pay rent, food, and prescriptions until I hit Medicare. The car will definitely go but don't know what else I can cut since my budget was bare bones anyway.

Borrowing trouble is not good for your health. I would advise you not to look at projections that are created to bash Trump and as an unintended consequence affects people like you bringing more worry into your life.

You have no idea nor does anyone else know what this final healthcare plan will be.

At this rate of change within the next four years Medicare and Medicaid will consume just over $2000 billion a year, or $2 trillion — an increase of $600 billion a year in spending.

Let me remind you that last year taxes (receipts) rose by a paltry 0.55%, and at this rate of increase over the next four years government revenue will absorb only $72.9 billion of that $600 billion in additional spending — and this assumes that absolutely nothing else in the budget increases in cost at the same time, an utterly fanciful notion.

Somewhere below there was some post about me not understanding the BIG PICTURE. Apparently I am supposed to fall on the sword so the rich pubs can have their tax break?

Here is the big picture: If I do not have my routine maintenance doctor visits and prescriptions, I am going to cost a heck of a lot more when I end up blind or paralyzed from a stroke. Take a look at that big picture.

Which is why some people get sick. OP says she is getting ulcer. I think if I worried about things I could do nothing about or did not understand I would have ulcers too.

Sometimes it is best to stay away from the political news/media if you are going to worry.

I was going to put this on the main board, but since I very much blame the Republicans and their voters, I put it on the political board. If find it repulsive and dishonest when posters try to sneak their political beliefs on the other boards.

There are usually other options for healthcare for uninsured within a community. Try local health departments, community clinics, most offer sliding scale for healthcare and medications. Many hospitals have some form of charity care, a sliding scale fee based on your income. I have insurance that I can't afford to use (high deductible and no pharmacy benefit until deductible met). If I'm still with my company next open enrollment, I'm just going to drop insurance altogether. I can use the extra money for other things like auto expenses and food.

We have Samaritan which is a Christian sharing organization. - It satisfied the govt forced health insurance

It's less than $200 a month for a family depending on your plan.

I have something similar. I chose the plan that only pays for - hospitalization. I pay for everday

things. I just don't go to the doctor unless I have to. I'm heavily involved in nutrition. I think a lot of illness can be cured with vitamins and minerals.

I see a doctor every 6 months for my eyes to monitor glaucoma and a macular scar. So many of my close relatives have passed from strokes, I have to have my BP monitored and prescribed--it also affects my eyes. My thyroid med also keeps my BP in check and my antidepressant has helped my arthritis (go figure?)

I did not want to be on charity--I wanted to have my insurance with some human dignity.

All I can say is Trump supporters voted for him - and probably the rest of the republicans

I have never figured out why these people vote against their own self interests. Everything that Trump said such as that he was for the workers, etc. was a lie. When you get his minions such as Paul Ryan in there cutting everything out for the "little guy," my question is why did those Wisconsin voters put him back in the House? I have never, ever figured that out. I will NEVER vote for a republican again and I have, when they were more middle of the road and not so blatantly and radically out for all the tax cuts for themselves, and no medical care for a lot of us, because they need something to pay for their tax cuts. But I am still baffled as to why people (such as the ones in Wisconsin re-electing Paul Ryan or that horrible governor they have) are voting against their self interests (that is, for example, to have medical care). I know Obamacare isn't perfect, so why weren't they working on fixing that, rather than just trying to get rid of it with something nobody will be able to afford? Maybe that's the idea!

Please don't vote for Trump in the next election! I think the democrats have 22 people lined up to run. At least consider some of them.

I am so pleased in my stock increase in my 401K over the past 2 weeks.
