Early Birds?

I have recently noticed that birds seem to be pooping on my patio and outside rug. If I put a bird bath in the corner of the backyard away from the patio, will that keep the birds from coming onto the patio? There is nothing on the patio that would attract them and I cannot understand why they would bother, especially when there are trees in close proximity. Any and all suggestions are all welcome.
