Time to reduce the nation's retirement age?

This may be of particular note to MTs, especially because we are being replaced by robots and/or third-world countries.

There are many retirees now that can't live comfortably on their benefits, so if it continues to be based on the same parameters, benefits would be even less if you retire at 55. Do you really believe that benefits are going to be substantially increased because people over 50 can't find jobs?
It seems to me that the answer to the problem of employers not hiring age 50+ workers is to enforce the EEOC laws, although employers with fewer than 20 employees are allowed to discriminate on the basis of age (which is set at age 40).
If you are sole supporting with Social Security benefits as your only source of income, how are you going to live on your benefit and be able to do anything to fill the hours that used to be taken up by work hours? I doubt that there will be money for much recreation. My neighbor told me recently that he will be 62 this year and he can't wait to retire - although he and his wife (who receives SSID) will have to move and cut back on everything. Is that how you want to spend your lives beginning at 55? Not me. That's why I continue to work to supplement my Social Security benefit.

I pray ever day for my job to last 3 1/2 more years (when I will turn 62), but I am hoping to work until 70... at the very least 66 years and 3 months, my full retirement age.
