How a poll works.

Posted: Jul 3, 2014

I did this little survey poll on favorite cookies. To keep it simple, there were 2 families, both with 5 kids, called the Blue family and the Red family. The blue family voted like this:

Peanut butter -- 1

Chocolate chip -- 1

Oatmeal -- 1

Ginger -- 1

Oreos -- 1

Sugar -- 0

The red family had never tried any other kind of cookie but sugar, and so voted like this:

Peanut butter -- 0

Chocolate chip -- 0

Oatmeal -- 0

Ginger -- 0

Oreos -- 0

Sugar -- 5

So the total results were:

Peanut butter -- 1

Chocolate chip -- 1

Oatmeal -- 1

Ginger -- 1

Oreos -- 1

Sugar -- 5

Well it is obvious! Sugar cookies win!

Now substitute the names

Jimmy Carter -- 1

Bill Clinton -- 1

JFK -- 1

LBJ -- 1

Obama -- 1

Reagan -- 5

And that my friends, is how polls are skewed.

The polls are skewed! - sm

Watch out now!  You're going to get complaints that your poll is skewed.

Oh, look!  The "Reds" chose "Uncle Sugar"!  Smile

You had 10 votes cast (2 families of 5 each) - I would say that with 10 votes, the sugar won fair and square - it doesn't matter that they were all from one family.....each of their votes counted, right?

Peanut butter -- 1

Chocolate chip -- 1

Oatmeal -- 1

Ginger -- 1

Oreos -- 1

Sugar -- 5

It is because they only ate sugar cookies - so the poll was not accurate and skewed

Not fair and square poll if they had not been exposed to other cookies to weigh against sugar cookies.

I would say the pollster was skewed. - LOL

The red family is actually liberals - you tried to confuse us with colors....

My answer - - The cookies are a deflection! nm

No the cookies are a simple way to explain how - political polls are not trustworthy.

Polls are always correct when they are in your favor, always skewed when you don't like the results.
Really I do not pay attention to ANY poll - because I know how they are manipulated

I do not have a political side but I do not like to read someone spewing ugliness about Obama because they want to believe some poll to justify their contempt.

Truth be told, I do not have an affiliation with any political party and I think all politicians are crooks and liars.
No they are not - both the cookie thingy and polls

First that is the OPs interpretation of what she wants to believe because it didn't go in her favor, so she makes up some weird cookie analogy which makes no sense. First off she doesn't know if the second group didn't have any other kind of cookies except that one type. So you can't just make something up if you don't know what the facts are.

The fact is there was a poll and it told the story of what people across America think and feel.

The campaign to mislead the public, discourage conservative voters, etc. is underway, full bore. Do NOT believe ANY polls.  Think for yourself - and VOTE, regardless of any polls that might suggest that Obama has this sewn up.  The DNC had a disastrous convention and they're also trying to make that look like the best thing since conventions began.
