MT-poll, MT attire

Posted: Jun 18, 2013

Just wondering.............as an at-home MT, do you get dressed daily for work, such as fixing hair, donning makeup, putting on "out in public" clothes, do you roll out of bed and work in your PJs or work in some comfy yoga pants?  Just thought it would be interesting to know:)

Dressed for work - LT

For ME personally, I have to look good to feel good. When I first started doing MT at home, I did roll out of bed and work in the PJs. I ended up gaining A LOT of weight and felt horrible about myself. I lost the weight and now I get dressed daily as if I am going to an actual job. Not "professional attire", of course, but casual attire, hair flat-ironed, makeup on, etc. Even if I wake up and am running late, I will STILL rush through and make sure I'm completely dressed before hitting the computer. It just makes me feel so much better about myself.

Both, but I do better if I shower and get dressed for - the day first

[ In Reply To ..]
I start my shift at 10 pm and there have been days where I rolled out of bed at 9:30 and then took a shower later on my "lunch" break.

For me, though, showering tells my body that my day is starting, so I do much better when I take a shower and get dressed. Getting dressed only involves a pair of stretchy jeans and a T-shirt though and I haven't work makeup in years - even prior to being an MT.

I'm in - anon

my PJs right now working. I will eventually get dressed sometimes in yoga pants sometimes in jeans. Whatever the mood strikes. As far as makeup, I rarely use it and hair I just brush it. I am not high maintenance. My hair is not dyed, curled etc and have been blessed with skin that looks good for the most part without too much work. I can see the other posters point about feeling good about oneself. That is the utmost importance and I agree that you do what you have to do to accomplish that.

Some days, I wake up on time and take a shower before work. I agree with the other MTs in that I feel much better and work much better when I do that. Otherwise, I work in PJs until my "lunch break" and take a shower then. I just dress casual after showering and don't do make-up. As another MT stated, I have been blessed with good skin and natural color, so I've never been one to wear much, if any, make-up throughout my entire life.

I've got to get dressed - nymt

I can't work in PJs but I must be comfortable. I'll wear sweats while working, and put on jeans to go out. I haven't worn makeup since I started working at home 24 years ago, except on my wedding anniversaries.

I've been wearing the same shirt since - Saturday....

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess I'll probably get a new one on today. For the most part, I don't get dressed unless I am going somewhere.

On the days I'm up early, usually by 5:00 a.m., I will start working in my pajamas for about an hour or so, then have breakfast and read the paper, get dressed, apply makeup (even perfume), and then get back to work. :o)

What I Do - JC

I work in my PJ's until hubby goes to work. I then get dressed (in case someone comes to the door), but very casually. I'm in FL, so it's usually light-weight shorts and light-weight t-shirt. If I am not in the mood for a bra (which is often), I make sure I always have a shirt over my T-shirt so I can answer the door and not be flopping around.

I like my shower at night, but in the a.m. I always wash my face, comb my hair and brush my teeth. I haven't worn make-up for years, so that never happens.

I never wear shoes when working. I wear flip-flops all year long (for the most part), and transcribe either in my bare feet--or with little sport sock anklets on if it's chilly out.

I work until 10 a.m. in PJs until hubs leaves for - work and hot water is back! LOL sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Plus with kids showering too for school, I'd rather wait until mid morning.

I do get dressed in regular clothes and do not change back into PJs until around 9 p.m. I am casual though. Jeans/nice shirt in winter and shorts/capri pants/nice shirt in summer. I wear socks in winter and bare feet in summer. I hardly wear shoes except when going out. I can produce more in bare feet.... hahaha!

Love, love, love working from home!

Should add that yes I do my hair and yes - I wear makeup every single day. nm

Working without shoes - JC

[ In Reply To ..]
It's great working without shoes, but I had taken a temporary office MT job, and OMG, I had to take a shoe off to work. It was just me and this other girl in the office, and I asked if she minded, and she said heck no. I could not for the life of me transcribe--I couldn't "feel" the foot pedal properly.

Same here! - Trampled underfoot

[ In Reply To ..]
I have to be able to feel the foot pedal too! I often walk around with just one shoe on; I get some funny looks when I answer the door that way.

I usually get dressed in nice casual wear (in summer, capris, platform sandals, summery top or tank, jewelry), and my usual summertime makeup. In the winter, it's usually jeans, a long-sleeved top or a heavier-weight tank with a cute hoodie over it, and my indispensable Ugg boots with a bit heavier makeup.

I feel like I'm more productive when I'm dressed up enough to feel like I could go from my office straight to the store or out to lunch without having to change anything.

On days when I'm not feeling my usual perky self, I have yoga pants and jeggings I can pair up with a graphic Tee or tank and either my wedge/platform flip-flops in warmer weather or Nikes with ankle socks in the cooler weather.

I try never to work in my PJs because I just can't get into the groove for work, my mind keeps telling me it's time to veg out, lol!

Started out being lazy, can't imagine it now. - I like to get dressed up!

[ In Reply To ..]
And honestly, I like being done up when my husband gets home. I don't want to start looking too "homely" just because I work at home all day. He appreciates it, and it makes me feel like a catch.

I dude myself up for hubby, too - Makes sense to me...

[ In Reply To ..]
I clean myself up, too, for hubby-- both my frustrated work attitude because of work, and my appearance. I want to keep him. I can be way too cranky, and gosh darn I wouldn't want to come home to me sometimes.

I know someone who is such a crank-crab that when her husband comes home from work, he gets cleaned up, then leaves the house and goes out with his friends. I don't blame him. She's always looking to me for sympathy, but she gets none from me.

Sorry, got off the subject, but appearance is important, but attitude is probably more important!

My daily attire - Old Pro

[ In Reply To ..]
Is some nice drawstring pants from Woman Within (a great place for good quality clothes that are not too expensive) and a fresh, clean, t-shirt every day. (Don't forget, I live in a hot climate.) Strangely, I have developed this thing for Mary Janes, so I wear them daily, much like I did in fourth grade! Of course, if I am going out, I do get dressed up. I just figure that I had to wear corporate clothes for so many years, I am not so eager to do it now when I am at home.

I've been working at home since 2004 and for the most part wear comfy sweatpants or yoga pants and tee shirts. When I changed companies in November, I had to train in-house for 6 weeks and had to go shopping for nice clothes. I was glad to get home again and back into my comfy clothes.
