CBS poll on debate

Posted: Oct 4, 2012

CBS conducted a poll of 500 people who watched the debate.

Poll Romney Obama
Who won? (CBS) 46 22
Who won? (CNN) 67 25
  • Romney jumped 33 points on "cares about their needs and problems".
  • 56% say they view Romney in a better light.

I was an undecided voter. Romney is the CLEAR - leader at this point, hands down. nm

Your choice, remember that when you're sick and shopping - for insurance with a "voucher."

What do you oppose about a voucher system? (nm) - SK1

Aside from requiring people who can't read the labels on their medicine - bottles to shop for insurance? More cost
[ In Reply To ..]
shifted to the consumer. We are NOT talking Medicare here. There would also be profits to be paid for out of that purse.

Romney's plan would cost us all more and give us less. And we know it. After all, we're living the results of a free market system "competing" for our business right now.
Good points, but I think there's more to it... - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]
People who can't read medicine bottles are responsible for their health insurance now. There are advocates in place to help people make choices.

Insurance reform is definitely needed in this country and there need to be insurance regulations in place to make it easier to obtain less expensive insurance and protect people with preexisting conditions.

I haven't looked at the comparative numbers, but I don't think we can know that the Romney plan would be more expensive. I do support the free market system, though.
Vouchers -
[ In Reply To ..]
The voucher program proposed sounds very like the Medicare Advantage plans now, so not sure what the real problem with vouchers would be.
A LOT of people can't afford to buy Medicare Advantage plan. - NM

Do you know what you're talking about? -

Don't even hand me that. My mom and dad have it, and it is the same cost as their regular Medicare (not one dime more). They had their choice of several plans. It is great and it pays great and is very widely accepted. I would count myself extremely fortunate if I could have insurance coverage like they have.

along with Medicare A&B (which is needed to qualify for MAP). Anyway, don't know how you can say people can't afford it...his cost $49. Medicare A&B cost $100, but that's still not bad.

When you look at costs for "market-driven" HC procedures like - Lasik you see what competition does.

[ In Reply To ..]
Originally $5000, now about $500 per eye. And this happens over and over again when the marketplace is allowed to function.

Insurance? You can see this in auto, home, life insurance where the competition is national, unlike HC.

Education? Cost per student and outcomes better where competition is unfettered by governmental monopoly.

Let healthcare insurers compete nationally, give me a voucher to go shopping - and then hide and watch what happens to the cost of healthcare.

We have to get over this ridiculous notion that the government does (any)thing better than the marketplace can do it.
Ideology, not facts. Check private college tuition, including - "cheap" on line, with NO government
[ In Reply To ..]
involvement. Prices are not just through the roof but much, much higher than they need to be. Competition has not brought them down where they should be at all.

Lasik? Yes, it's cheaper, and in part because of market forces; but this is a refinement of prices that were mainly brought down because of advancing technology. Prices can be that low because the procedure itself can be done very quickly and precisely.

Free market forces are powerful and always with us, an incredibly valuable tool for achieving what we want and need. We'd never choose not to harness them at all. The argument that our choice is between a completely free market (running amok with our lives) OR giant government is a phony one. A lie meant to manipulate us.

The only sensible answer, and the only one that works, is the system invariably--invariably--endorsed not only by business leaders who are also wise and decent people, but by Adam Smith, the father of modern free market theory, in the 1700s: Free markets with sufficient direction and control so that they operate for the benefit of everyone. We had that in the middle of the last century, when--surprise--prosperity soared, and now we don't and are paying for our foolishness.
Where did you get the idea of a completely free market???? - backwards typist

as you stated: "The argument that our choice is between a completely free market (running amok with our lives) OR giant government is a phony one. A lie meant to manipulate us."

No one is saying that. The dems are using that as a scare tactic and talking points that they KNOW are lying.

If there was a law against lying, the whole administration would all be in jail.

Yes, Romney does get a reprieve. His donors will stick, but - he couldn't do the job with a Pub congress.NM

Did you see the History Channel documentary? - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
I "think" it was the History Channel. Might have been Nat Geo. Anyhoo, they did a documentary where they used Lincoln's life masks, one done early in his presidency and the other later into it, to create busts. The difference between the two was startling.

Apparently, the job has been aging men or a looooong time.

(Really, if you have the opportunity to catch the show, it was fabulous.)

I just stopped by the board to see how the Dems - would spin this one...

[ In Reply To ..]
...and have myself a good hearty laugh.

It's too bad they didn't pick Hillary in 2008, but what's more inexplicable is how many of them are perfectly prepared to double down on that obvious mistake.

The lies and 180-degree policy shifts - need no spin.

Romney may have dominated the stage and the moderator last night, but the fact-checkers will have the last word on the substance, and they're gonna have a field day with it. Enjoy the contact high, fleeting though it may be.

There have been statements made by Obama and his team in campaigning that have been allowed to go unchallenged about Romney's plans, particularly in the time since he picked Ryan as a running mate. Obama and his team have been REPEATEDLY stating the false and saying this is what Romney is proposing (sometimes their statements are based on Ryan's original plan which has been modified several times and which Ryan has repeatedly said is not Governor Romney's plan). As Romney pointed out last night, you can say something over and over again, but it does not make it true. The fact that Pres Obama could not counter this proves that he has nothing in reality on which to base his statements concerning Romney's ideas.
Obama said 5 trillion in tax cuts. Romney said...sm - VTMT

They set themselves up to lose earlier this week b/c they knew that man-to-man, without the editing prowess of MSNBC and the networks, that their guy would lose big time....and he did. However, after debate - it's all good. CNN poll must be way skewed, they said, with way to many republicans in the poll...Really - that's something CNN has never been guilty of before...why would they start now. Just take the loss, admit your guy is running on nothing and, therefore, had nothing to say...Please Mr. Moderator, can we go to another question - I am sick of getting my butt kicked on this one...Please Mr. Moderator, HELP ME!

The campaign to mislead the public, discourage conservative voters, etc. is underway, full bore. Do NOT believe ANY polls.  Think for yourself - and VOTE, regardless of any polls that might suggest that Obama has this sewn up.  The DNC had a disastrous convention and they're also trying to make that look like the best thing since conventions began. I was struck last night by the huge difference in what we can infer about the nature of Bernie's and Hillary's thought processes while they were processing the challenging questions that Anderson Cooper threw out at them individually.
