How's that hopey/changey thing working out for everybody?

Posted: Nov 2, 2009

I've been following the discussions on this board since the election and I've noticed that the Bush bashers turned Obama worshipers haven't really had much to say of late.  Is their messiah is just not living up to the title?  Are they too ashamed to defend or worhsip publically anymore?

Personally, I'm totally disturbed by Obama and there are so many things that disturb me about him that I find it very difficult to put my finger on just one.  Like his health care plan sucking out loud or the fact that he who is the President of the most powerful country in the world actually goes on a talk show tour to what, defend his lousy plan, his empty and broke promises?  David Letterman, that's going to get him more support, really?!?!?!?  Is he the president or is he a media whore looking for more spotlight?  It's obscene.  What kind of message does that send to other world leaders?

What's next?  Will he be People's Sexiest Man Alive?

Obama has made America a big fat joke.  We're not a super-power with a distinguished and powerrful leader anymore.  We are the self-indulgent playground of a vain, manipulative media whore.

Those 650,000 jobs congress "claimed" they saved or added was such a JOKE!!!

They didn't bother to tell everyone that the 1.125 MILLION temporary and permanent work permits for illegals in this country would COMPLETELY zap that number of our own employed to ZERO!!!

Didn't hear about that did we? Those people up there are such a joke..... and as long as they hope the dumb folks who don't educate themselves continue to vote them in, they'll keep doing it.

Sorry! I happen to be in that category and am....sm - nosa

Hi Just - NJ

Things could always be better, but it's hard to imagine much worse than 2000-2008. That does make things today seem kinda rosey ^^

Currently, I'm fascinated by the implosion of the Republican Party as it divests itself of moderates and continues down the road to extremism. They are so far behind the times they must think what worked in 2000 and 2004 will still work today.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, America is recovering from the dank and dismal hole the Bush regime managed to dig for us. They were spectacularly successful at failing. But we are on the rebound and very thankful for that. Of course, there are some who would rather return to the Dark Ages. The social conservatives are having fits because the pendulum swung back. That pendulum has quite a ways to go yet, and the youth of American seem determined to keep pushing it along. That is also heartening.

I'm excited about health care reform, glad the economy has stopped it's wild tumble and is climbing again, and curious as to how Obama will handle Afghanistan. I'm not sure we can rout al Qaeda, and the regime we "support" there is a piece of crap. So, where to go now? More forces? Crank down on the corrupt leaders? Both? Withdraw and do neither? It's an interesting and dangerous conundrum. Thank goodness we have a president who likes to work instead of hanging our at the ranch.

All in all, it's going well. Thanks for asking!

What? In YOUR mind, things were worse in 2008 than - NOW? No way...get real...look around.nm

There are questions waiting for you.

I agree and disagree - a little long, but speaking from the heart - Hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
I do have to say the OPs message was a little "tense". Although I do understand her/his anger and frustration.

Yes things could be better, but actually 2000 – 2008 was not as bad as every Bush-hater makes it out to be. I would say the last 3 or 4 years were bad, but the first term he was president the country was doing better than it is now. People were employed. My family had jobs, we had a savings account, retirement account, and we received a check each year which was nice. We had a future we could look forward to. So to say the whole 8 years was bad is just not true. I know a lot of people hate Bush with a passion, and he has done some things that are not good, it’s just not true (or fair) to say the whole 8 years was bad. But as bad as the last term of Bush’s presidency was, what is going on today is way far from “rosey”, unless of course you are thinking about black roses with lots of thorns. Now, half my family is unemployed (included over half the country), we have no retirement funds anymore, and my taxes have doubled since the newest addition to the White House. Everything he promised he failed on. I have no future to look forward to.

Nowâ€Â¦that doesn’t mean I blame Obama for it all. I blame congress and the people with the “moolah” who make these decisions. Obama is just a deliverer of the message.

Secondly, I don’t understand why you seem to think the Republican party is imploding. It is not, and that goes to show me that you really don’t listen to anything the republicans say. There are a lot of good republicans in office who have a lot of good ideas. They are not being allowed to express those ideas or have input. The house leader Reid keeps saying they (republicans are welcome, but his door is always shut while he has his closed door meetings with Rahm-boy. Then when you have the fearless leader getting up telling the country he doesn't care what "they" (the republicans) have to say, he just wants them to "sit down and shut up". Oh yea, what a great and inspiring speech that was. NOT! There are a few rogue democrats who put themselves in the republican party, but we all know who they are and know ahead of time they are not republicans but rogue democrats, trying to stir up trouble that is not there.

What I see is a country being torn apart by the democrats in congress. Our country is on a path to financial destruction and the congress does not care. After all, why should they. The decisions they make don't affect them. They continue to get richer while we get poorer. I saw where Hillary was in another country and said "In America we tax everything that moves". Funny because they don't pay the taxes we do. The constitution is being disintegrated and our rights are being destroyed. Government is trying to take over every industry there is when they can’t even run the offices they already have their grimy paws in efficiently. The post office, VA, and Medicare to name a few. They are bankrupting them and now they want to do it to other agencies. But they don’t care. They’ve exempted themselves and their rich friends from any of the hell they are forcing on us.

American is not recovering from the “dank and dismal hole the Bush regime managed to dig”. It is still in the dank and dismal hole that the Obama regime is keeping us in with no hopes for a better future. I’m listening to top economists and other people speak and they say it’s not going to get better anytime soon. A good person to listen to is Gerald Celente. He has a company called Trends Research Institute and he does a lot of predictions and has been right on in the past on what he predicted. I do not believe he is a conservative (he doesn’t have a whole lot of good to say about the republican party). But with all the people I listen to and read from it is far from “rosey” with no hopes. So there is nothing to be thankful for (yet).

The dark agesâ€Â¦.that is exactly what we are heading towards. Especially if they pass this farce of a health plan they are trying to. It is not going to work. It won’t cover everyone, and it will mean financial disaster for the country. All people currently paying for health care those costs will increase. Doctors are planning to quit (their words not mine), so no matter what my health insurance is I will not get the care I need because there will be fewer doctors and I will have to wait months and months to get the tests I need (that is if politicians approve the tests whether or not the doctor says it is needed. Now that I'm getting up in age, I don't have anything to look forward to if their health plan passes. Lower quality of health care and higher premiums. Nice...NOT!

As for Afghanistanâ€Â¦I do not see a victory there. Our troops our getting slaughtered while Obama plays this game of (1) not sending the troops required to win the war that the top general requested, and (2) diverting the money that is suppose to go to help the soldiers win the war and get the equipment they need, to congress’ pockets and their friends.

The only hope I see for the country is to get more republicans elected, get a balance back in the senate/house and stop the tyranny and downward spiral of the desecration of our great country.

Agree. Obama has turned the USA into a joke. - Did not vote for him..and would NEVER now.nm

"Bush bashers turned Obama Worshipers" - gourdpainter

[ In Reply To ..]
This board has never been a place for constructive and objective discussion. It's all about the statement in the subject line, pubs vs dems with those blinded by party lines. I voted for Obama and thus far I haven't been happy about anything he has done. I am also a "Bush basher" in that he set the stage for his successor. I do not know for whom I will vote in 2012, I will wait and see who the candidates are and vote for the one that talks the talk but I don't expect the next prez or congress to walk the walk any more than they have for the past great number of years, almost 50 to be exact.

Well could that be because you like so many others - me

[ In Reply To ..]
are expecting too much to be "fixed" in too short a time? Think about this.

Remember WHOever is running the show (so to speak) not only has to address problems left for them, BUT ALSO address any new issues that arise.

I think (not addressing OP here) that Americans are largely 'immature' and expect instant gratification. When they don't get it, they often act like children told 'no.'

I'm speaking of - gourdpainter

[ In Reply To ..]
1) His so-called medical reform which will do nothing but raise the cost of insurance unless you're in the "freebie" category.
2) The stimulus "package" that didn't help a thing except to plunge the deficit even farther in the hole.
3) The amnesty for illegal aliens that I am sure will follow the medical insurance reform. McCain shared that same vision as I recall.
4) The ridiculous war that GWB got us into WILL take time to resolve but I have little confidence he will do the right thing just as it was not the right thing to get us into it in the first place.

I am an avowed independent and as far as I am concerned the two political parties are equally devious. They will all do what they want and what their big biz friends want and to he!! with what the people want.
Dunno about all that - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
1. Health care reform is more than just a public option. It's reform, designed to get health care costs in line. Posts with links to how this will be achieved have been made multiple times on this board.
2. Obama's stimulus package, unlike the checks for a couple of hundred bucks that Bush sent out, didn't put cash directly into your pocket. That doesn't mean it did not work. It most definitely worked and the economy is on the upswing. See multiple previous posts about that, how the numbers work, etc.
3. America, love it or give it back.
4. What is "the right thing"?

And you are welcome to them, as long as you recognize that's what you posted.

I am wondering, could people peek into your life and judge you on a project in process?

Or would you want them to be fair and allow time for the processes to be completed or to at least have time to work?

So if you see a murder in progress... - just me
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you just continue to watch until the person is actually dead because maybe by some chance the murderer might stop?

If something is not working you need to stop it and work out another plan. You don't let thinks keep getting worse and worse and worse.

That's like putting money into a stock and your option date is one month out, but the stock keeps diving and diving, and now your in the negative 1K, but you got another month left on the option. All the researchers keep saying the stock is going to continue to go down, but hey you've got another month left until the options over. Do you cut your losses at a neg 1K, or do you wait another month until you're in the negative 100K or 1 million.
Thanks for allowing me my opinion - gourdpainter

The right thing? - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
Still wondering what you meant by Obama doing the right thing overseas.

NJ
the right thing - gourdpainter
[ In Reply To ..]
The "right" thing as far as I'm concerned would include getting us out of that farce of a war as he promised during the campaign. Again, IMO, the right thing would be to stand up for American workers and stop the bleeding of jobs out of this country and thirdly, I would certainly like to see him go for enforcing our immigration laws that are already on the books. If we weren't providing free medical care to illegals then we might be able to take care of AMERICAN citizens and their health care needs. Lastly, again in my opinion, the health care reform if it happens at all will do nothing but make things worse. 2000+ pages??? How ridiculous.

So, I hope that clarifies what is "right" in my humble opinion.
Iran or Afghanistan? - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't mean to be dense, I'm just trying to understand. Obama promised to get out of Iran and to step up Afghanistan, both of which he is doing.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding and you think he's not moving quickly enough?

I agree. I remember there was discussion in the media - Colleen

[ In Reply To ..]
at Obama's 100 days in office that things were not being fixed fast enough. How unrealistic is that?!

I sometimes think that some people just got used to Bush's antics and his tendency to just jump in and make decisions based on nothing and/or just listening to what he wanted to hear. President Obama is an intelligent and thoughtful person and he wants to hear all the information and consider it thoroughly before acting. Maybe if Bush had had some intellectual curiousity and had addressed things the same way, President Obama would not be dealing with as much garbage now.
Locksteppers - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
Don't forget that Bush's congress were united in wrecking the country. The Dems as a whole take more time for discussion and debate. They don't march in lockstep. That slows down the process a bit but helps make for a better end product.
