Current ID law allows voters to sign an affidavit to vote a regular ballot if they cannot produce a photo ID. He didn't stop there. He also vetoed proposals requiring voters to affirm their U.S. citizenship before receiving ballots, and restrictions on voter registration drives mandating groups to undergo training by the secretary of state or local clerks. In another recent unexpected twist, Governor Snyder voiced support for the ACA after the SCOTUS ruling.

Be sure to include (among the handful of cases) those instances attributed to clerical errors by state employees who inadvertently added undocumented applicants for drivers' licenses to the voter rolls.
Governor Snyder saw through the underlying suppression agenda of imposing restrictions on voter registration drives and voiced his concerns that requiring training for registration groups would unnecessarily impede ongoing efforts to enroll new voters in time for the election this fall....as if such groups as the League of Women voters, who have been doing this for decades, couldn't teach state officials in charge of training a thing or two. In other words, the TIMING of the bill was highly suspect.
Introducing a new citizenship ID checkbox on the ballot, especially in some obscure location using tiny fonts, could result in inadvertent oversights by significant numbers of voters from both parties who are citizens or otherwise have legal status. Left unchecked, the bill would have invalidated their votes, so the governor nixed the idea.
Consider this. Dems support those portions of the bill Governor Snyder upheld, and would be delighted to see voter records maintained more efficiently and enhanced transparency in the process. They have nothing against having the names of dead and departed former voters removed from the rolls. They love the idea of imposing felony penalties on failure to comply with campaign finance reporting requirements and the requirement of full financial disclosure for newly established political parties.
Prohibitions on using campaign finance funds for legal expenses unrelated to the campaign scores another home run for dems. That bill was inspired by former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick converting his re-election fund into a legal defense fund in his text messaging scandal. Shades of neighboring Governor Scott Walker's shady "criminal defense fund" necessitated by the ongoing John Doe investigations. Snyder feels using those funds for candidates with ethics and even criminal damage control issues is inappropriate.
Hats off to Governor Snyder for standing up to suppression paty extemists and for doing what is right for all Michiganders.
