If anyone wonders why this country is in the political turmoil and economic state that it is in, maybe we need look no further than our own mirrors.
Whether it be an informal "debate" or political commentary in the public media, the state of political discourse has been reduced to the playground level.
"You're stupid!." "No, you're stupider." "It's Bush's fault." "It's Obama's fault."
Are we really no more grown up than that?
When we dislike or disagree with a candidate is it that much harder to piece together a coherent argument based on policies than to make a fool of oneself acting the playground bully?
Is "Michelle Bachmann is a ditz" the best argument you can come up with? Which of her POLICIES do you disagree with and why? Same with Rick Perry? Are you acquainted with his foreign policy ideas? Do you know where he stands on the subject of Israel and formation of a Palestinian state? When you can articulate those arguments well, then you can sit at the grown-up's table.
Have any of you run for political office? Have you even been on the board of your local PTO? Your homeowner's association? This low-ball name-calling isn't better than the guy with the beer belly on Sunday afternoon who plays armchair quarterback.
It's sad that women seem to bear the brunt of this name-calling - not just conservatives, but liberals as well. Where were the women of America when Hillary was running? Why do American women seem to dislike successful and powerful women so much? We can see this in the microcosm of this forum. You don't have to read too many posts down from the original post of someone who is sharing their happiness about how productive they have been at their job before you see somebody else sniping at them. I really don't see a women getting elected President any time soon, which is sad. Sometimes they have more cojones than the men.
Just my 0.02. Flame away if you dare.
