I found many articles on this, so bear with me as I take an excerpt from the articles (with links below):
First, the law is to "provide for and protect the safety, security, and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants." (I think that's pretty reasonable).
But the real shame is the article you provided made no mention of the following (which is a shame and why I don't trust that station for any truth in news stories):
"But the exemptions are pretty broad: anyone who has physical or mental disabilities, is a pauper, doesn't want to own guns or is a convicted felon. And there are no penalties for violations."
So in other words it is not a requirement that every citizen carry a gun. The articles state
"When the law was passed, it was common knowledge that it was not going to be enforceable," Davis says. "It was a symbolic gesture."
The article also states "Georgia town not alone in using gun law as 'deterrent'"
I'll tell you this for sure, I'll bet its a pretty safe place to live.

directly from the cnn article:
"The ordinance exempts people who "suffer from a physical or mental disability," felons, "paupers" or people who "conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine."

if this quote is true:
"When the law was passed, it was common knowledge that it was not going to be enforceable," Davis says. "It was a symbolic gesture,"
makes me wonder what other laws one might be able to get away with (not enforced). Speeding? Shoplifting? Shooting a gun in a crowd? IMHO, this "law" makes a mockery of legitimate laws on the books.
There are a lot of laws on the books that are not enforceable - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
either because they are outdated or because the law doesn't or won't enforce them.
For example (and I'm not saying this is a law but), does anyone get arrested for spitting on the floor instead of in a spittoon? In Alabama, no person may spit on the floor of a church.
Haven't you seen laws like that? BTW, I think the speeding and shooting a gun in a crowd are laws in some states.
Have fun with this site:

Usually because they are outdated. Not because we - create NEW laws that are unenforceable.

The article does mention this: - Truthhurts

The ordinance exempts people who "suffer from a physical or mental disability," felons, "paupers" or people who "conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine."
It also mentions other items of interest about the law and about the 2nd and 14th amendment.
Seriously, did you just read a paragraph or two? Or just the headline?
Sorry Truthhurts, been swamped with work. That's what I get for speed-reading :-) - Mrs. Tingles - sm

Just read it again and *blam* there it popped right out at me. LOL. I still don't trust CNN very much though.
So guess my question is how can a place sue you and say it's a requirement to own guns, when it's not a requirement because the articles says anyone who doesn't want to own a gun is doesn't have to.
Sort of like that mandatory voluntary thing. Maybe it's just me, but it's not making sense.
Do government bodies really make any sense? LOL (no msg) - Truthhurts

Why would it make "perfect republican sense" - I don't think this is a r/d issue

Or was it a weak attempt to cut down republicans.
There is no distinction between POOR Democrats - sm

and republicans as far as excluding "paupers." The republicans are equal opportunity offenders. They absolutely LOVE watching the middle class lose everything and wind up in the "pauper" category. It doesn't matter if the person is republican or Democrat. They want to get rid of all the "paupers," who they find useless to their new society.
Only rich and poor. No more room for middle class.

Under the bill, school districts would now be able, if they wanted, to allow some employees to carry a firearm under certain conditions. The bill also eliminates the fingerprinting requirement for renewing weapons carry licenses.

The Murrieta Rebellion. The Law: Residents Of Jul 06, 2014 Reagan Country rose up last week to halt busloads of illegal immigrants being dumped into their neighorhoods, showing why they may have started a grassfire national movement.
To get into the town hall meeting at California's Murietta Mesa High School, you had to work your way through 200 angry protesters. Many of them were in green and white Mexican soccer jerseys and bandanas and waved Mexican flags, at least one with "Viva Mexico" stamped on it.

Democracy Requires An Educated ElectorateMar 02, 2016I recently learned that the reason education through high school in our country was "free," (though obviously paid for by taxes) was because in order for democracy to work, you have to have a well-educated electorate, i.e., you can't turn over the decision-making process to people who are not well informed. Looking at the demographics of the Trump supporters, which reveal that so many are NOT well educated, and not well informed enough to see that a President of the United States ...

Info About GeorgiaApr 28, 2013My husband and I have been living in Arizona for the last 7 years and think it's time for a change. We were thinking about Georgia-drove through it once on way to Florida many years ago and remember it as a pretty state. I wonder if anyone is from the Walton county area. We are looking for a smaller town and there seems to be some in Walton county. I would just like some information about how it is to live in that area (crime, access to shopping and medical care, etc.) We're older now ...

Guns And Intrinsic Danger. Or, "guns Don't Kill, People Kill"Dec 15, 2012If I were at a party, left the adults and put a nerf ball in the familiy room where the children were playing, nobody'd think anything of it.
If I put a loaded gun in there, every adult would rush to get it before the children did. THAT IS BECAUSE GUNS ARE INTRINSICALLY DANGEROUS. The only thing that changed was the presence of a gun, but no one would claim it was actually the children who were dangerous.
Suicides by gun are much more likely to result in death than ANY of the other usual ...

Georgia....... Crime Rate Apr 20, 2010In 1982, Kennesaw, Georgia passed a city gun ordinance that required heads of households to keep at least one firearm in their homes. Crimes against persons which include homicide, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and burglary, plummeted 74 percent the first year, dropped another 45 percent the next year, and has remained notably low ever since, despite a doubling of the population. From 1983 to 1993, armed robberies averaged a mere 1.6 annually, rapes 1.5, and murders (none with firearm ...
Who Is Going To Win Special Election In Georgia Jun 20, 2017Georgia’s Special Election Comes to a Nail-Biting Finish

Georgia Republican Quits HouseMar 03, 2010Nathan Deal is stepping down from his elected position as a representative from Georgia. That will cause a special election ($$), let health care reform pass the house with one less vote, and let him avoid the ethics committee investigation into him.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) has a problem: rural hospitals keep closing, overwhelmed by financial troubles they can’t solve on their own. The obvious solution – accepting Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act – is the one thing Deal refuses to even consider.
There is no great mystery here as to why the rural hospitals can’t keep their doors open. These facilities have routinely covered low- ...
