Sharia Law coming to a town near you?

Posted: Feb 7, 2011

This video is interesting. Why does America have to deal with those who won't assimalate to our country? I can see some reasoning for those that follow Sharia, but if they want to work in public-oriented jobs, then they should deal with the whole job kit-and-kaboodle.. The Target segment really got to me. If we refuse to do all parts of our job, we get fired.

I sure hope not. And we wonder what is wrong - with our country

It is all about being politically correct. I have my own religious convictions, and I would not work in a place that I feel would be against my religion.

If they don't believe in eating pork, then why would they take a paycheck from a company that sells it, or why would you be a cab driver if you can't provide rides for all? Better yet, why move here?

This is why I can't stand Fox! - no1joe

[ In Reply To ..]
I really don't like their spin on things. This is an issue that has been going on for a long time, and the vibe I get (again... just speaking for myself here) from watching the clip is that there is some scary invasion of Muslims looking to change the laws in the good old US of A to "Islamic law" in a state where the liberals are just going to bow down and roll out the red carpet.

Any business, in this case Target, that can accommodate someone's religious beliefs without changing the course of business should be commended... not only for keeping their employees happy, but for doing what's right. If an employer can make NOT violating someone's religious beliefs during the course of the work day possible, then they should do it! It's done all the time. For instance, in the MT field, there are those who refuse to type up any abortion procedures due to their religious beliefs. For an MT working for an MTSO where these reports aren't the norm, the situation is handled easily... just send that particular report to another MT when it comes up. Would that same MT be able to work for a company/facility where the majority of the reports had to do with that? No. It would interfere with the course of business, and that MT would not be able to effectively do that job. Accommodations are made all the time for every religion you can think of, and no one ever hears about it.

Now, as for khat, from what I've read, it isn't a hallucinogenic. However, hallucinogenic does sound much more frightening and makes me think of LSD-crazed hippies. Here's a less panicky version: It's more of a stimulant and an appetite suppressant which can cause a sense of euphoria and is sometimes used during periods of religious fasting (which is where the use in religion comes in). It's illegal, Fox. Period. Yes, there may be more of it around if the population/culture in the area demands it, as with any illegal substance unfortunately, but it will be treated just like any other illegal substance would be, and violators will be prosecuted. So, there won't be any crazy Muslims "tripping out" while driving a cab or working in Target. Again, from what I've read, it's used during fasting more to keep hunger down than anything else... not part of a religious ceremony. Therefore, it won't be legalized. Even if it was part of religious ritual, there are other religions in this country (peyote to the American Indians, the "blood of Christ" to those Catholics old enough to receive communion but still not of drinking age) where it is not criminalized during ritual with no detrimential effects to the surrounding community.

IMO, assimilation should NOT mean giving up or changing one's religious beliefs. So, when Fox keeps pushing the fact that these individuals refuse to "assimilate," I hope they're 100% correct in their reporting there.

Oh... and before I end my rant, I just have to add that the only thing I find more disconcerting than Fox's coverage on topics like this is the RESPONSE from the public! It's ugly and, quite frankly, bigoted. End of rant.

Now, on a more personal level, it irritates me to no end knowing that if I didn't do the whole kit-and-kaboodle, or even became a slightly "squeaky wheel," I would be out of a job... quickly. It irritates me more ESPECIALLY when I see all the incompetence at all levels. I always wondered where I could get a gig where I was well paid for doing a really poor job and putting in no effort. I just get NJA :/

Fox provided a news story. - see message

They are not reporting some "scary invasion of muslims trying to change the law", they are reporting what is going on. Sorry it wasn't sweetened up with the politically correctness spin.

My feeling is that's fine that Target was able to accomodate this person so she wouldn't have to handle pork, but the first thing I thought of is why is a person going to work for a place that sells pork (or anything else they don't believe in). One thing I learned a long time ago is that during interviews they would ask if there is anything that would prevent me from doing my job. When the person accepted to work in a place where they sell pork then that person has the problem. Again glad the store was able to accomodate her, but why should they. Here is a question that should be asked...If there were no other cashiers around to ring out the purchase, would the customer have had to put the pork back and not buy it because it's against the cashier's religious beliefs to touch pork (which technically she would not not been touching pork, she would have been touching plastic).

As for the cab driver..that is discrimination - not picking up a passenger and if he can't do his job he was hired to do and gets paid to do then that person should be fired. This is America. If he doesn't like it then he should go back to the country that suits his beliefs.

All I know is this is America. People eat pork, people drink alcohol, people travel with dogs, etc, etc. If people cannot handle dealing with them and providing a service they are hired to do to these people (which they receive a paycheck from), then these people should not have the job. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't have a job that would gladly touch a piece of plastic or give a person a ride no matter what they are carrying or look like.

And that ends my rant. :-)

Well, this is proof that Fox has done it's job - no1joe

This was spun to get people all worked up against Muslims and liberals. FYI, Fox first reported this back in early 2007... almost 4 years ago. In the interim, what has happened? Where is the Muslim State of Minnesota backed by the liberals? Where are all the hallucinating Muslims under the influence of khat?

Feedback like this has someone at Fox grinning ear to ear... maybe they'll even get a promotion.
I'm sorry but I just disagree - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
I just don't agree. Granted I'm sick of Fox and don't hardly watch anymore cos it's the same ol same ol and nothing interesting, but I just don't agree that this was "spin to get people all worked up against Muslims and liberals". First, it has nothing to do with liberals. Second it was just a story about something happening in the United States. It was a story that we would never see on the other stations because the other stations are too worried about being so PC that they never report what's really going on.

I don't think anyone is grinning ear to ear at Fox. They are just doing their job by providing a news story. The people of the country are smart enough and I really don't see too much "fear" running through Americans over a story like this. Sure there are a few, but that could be said about anything. You really should give Americans more credit than you do.

Sorry, but I will just have to respectfully disagree with you on this.
This is not a news piece. It is pure propaganda - straight up, laced with lies. sm

In other words, what most of us have come to expect from Fox.

The lead sentence is "MN is on its way to being America's first Somali-Moslem state" Editorial is too kind of a word to describe this statement. It is inflammatory propaganda pure and simple, aimed at seizing the attention of and ratcheting up fear among our least educated citizens, not to mention the fact that it is also a big fat lie.

Target "agreed to go along with Sharia law?" NOT. They decided to respect their employee by accommodating his or her strongly held religious beliefs. I agree with no1joe. They should be commended, not condemned for this. By the way Moslems share this same belief with Jews (Halal vs Kosher), yet we do not hear Fox warning us that the Jews are taking over MN. Why? Because that does not serve its immediate agenda of marginalizing Moslems and calling them out for not assimilating, AS IF their desire to preserve their own cultures, practices and beliefs is some sort of crime and that their "bringing their culture" to MN poses a dreadful threat.

Nothing to do with liberals huh? Might want to listen to the beginning of the closing (at 2:10), where typically in a news piece, the main point is made or reiterated. "MN is FAMOUSLY LIBERAL." Hyperbolic lie. Even though they went for Obama in 2008, throughout its history MN has voted red (20 times) more than blue (17 times) After all, it is the state which gave us Michele Bachmann. Famously liberal? I dont think so. So why, one must ask, has Fox inserted this fib into their flap?

Chek out 1:30, where the newscaster characterizes the events as an "ONSLAUGHT AGAINST their (MN) culture and law." Or where he asks if MN voters are going to be so (gasp) open minded and vote to allow Sharia law to take over.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

No one said they didnt happen. They did. Problem is they served up a huge helping of divisive fear-mongering and xenophobic spin along with a fib or two and a heap of self-righteous indignation along with those facts.

On the subject of manufactured news, Fox has been busted on more than a few occasions for doctoring video. They even have a politically correct term they use for it whenever they get caught. They call it an inadvertent error.

Fox owns TV stations that has news and shows other than the one that everyone hates. So, you don't watch House or any other shows they air?

In my area, there are 5 Fox channels and only one has O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. The others have regular programming.

So, because you don't like one station's "spin", you won't watch any of them? Isn't that a little prejudiced?

Really???!? I was talking Fox News here, whether it be on cable TV or in print online. Of course I watch other Fox channels. Not regularly, but when Gordon Ramsay is on... I watch. I also watch FX, again not regularly.

As for Fox News... I watch that too. When my friend is in town and stays with us (which he does often), I have no choice. If he's in the house, Fox News is on pretty much at all times. Once in a while, I'll turn it on just to see a different POV. Most of the time, that's exactly what I get... a better understanding of someone else's POV. I might not agree with it, but I get where they're coming from which I think is a good thing. Then there are the bits here and there that just leave my jaw hanging wide open.

Think about it... rewind the clock to 2007 when this story first aired. Think about what was going on politically at the time and ask yourself if it would have been to anyone's advantage to arouse some fear over Muslims and liberals.

"that particular group," and not knowing whether you were talking about Moslems (as in Islamic) or extemists. Your comment is embedded in a thread that was discussing Fox News biased, prejudicial and inflammatory presentation of MOSLEM workers (not extremists) bringing Sharia law to MN. Granted, Fox would like to imply that all Moslems are, in fact, extremists, an impression that several posters took issue with.

Your post reiterates Sharia law and proposes that "many" turn a blind eye to what Islamic extremists have done to our country. Thus, based on the content of the thread, I do not think it is unreasonable to conclude that the Moslems discussed in the video clip and preceding posts were being characterized as extremists in your comments and that the posters who took issue with the Fox News presentation were part of the "many" you referred to as turning a blind eye.

It was my intent to stay on topic and express opposition to the Fox News presentation and their underpinning suggestions that Moslems who fail to assimilate into the US mainstream while trying to preserve their religious and cultural practices are trying to establish Sharia laws in MN, which you clearly believe are extreme. I never intended to put words in your mouth. I trust we both now have clarified our positions.

After all, if a person is entitled to "pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," why not let this person do what makes them happy, which is go to church on a particular day. We allow females to kill their young, if that's what makes them happy. We allow homosexuals to get "married" if that's what makes them happy. Why shouldn't a person be allowed a day off to worship if that's what makes them happy? Why should some people be allowed to pursue happiness but not everyone? I personally turned a job down because I had to work on Saturday, which is my chosen "Sabbath." This job paid far more than what I make transcribing but my beliefs took precedence because those are what make me happy. Some people have to make sacrifices for their happiness, others make demands and hurl accusations to pursue their happiness.

Christian wanting Sunday off to worship...what do you do with an employee who is Muslim and wants to participate in Mecca. Do they get the time off too because of their religious beliefs?

You say you turned down a job offer because it wouldn't have given you Saturday off (as your chosen Sabbath). Fine...that was your decision but an employer has no obligation...or should it...to give you every Saturday off just because it is your chosen Sabbath especially when most other employees for that company work Saturdays. Why should you be the exception to the rule?

If we make changes for every single person to keep them happy in regards to their beliefs...the work place could be total chaos.
Weekends.... - JRD
[ In Reply To ..]
should be given off for everyone, except doctors and nurses. Jesus didn't quit healing the sick on the Sabbath. Our society needs to learn to slow down. Lots of countries take more time off than we do here in the US. It wouldn't hurt anything. The work place doesn't have to be total chaos. Americans just choose to make it so. If an employer chooses to hire you because he/she thinks you would be an asset, then yes that employer should make concessions for a person's beliefs. It can be very difficult to find work if employers keep making everyone work more and more and more. If a person wants off because of religious beliefs, they should be let off as long as other employees get the same amount of time off, if they choose to work on Saturday. I'm not asking for special privileges. I am asking that an employer respect my religious beliefs, which not many will do. BTW, Saturday is also God's chosen Sabbath. ; )
God's chosen Sabbath was - the 7th day in which
[ In Reply To ..]
he rested. I guess it depends if you consider Sunday the beginning of the week or the end of the week as this is still disputed by some which is the true Sabbath.

As for doctors and nurses, etc....there are many other people involved in healthcare that need to work on Saturday and/or Sunday to provide care for the sick. Dieticians in the hospital, MTs, etc.

I understand your point to an extent and it wouldn't kill us to get more time off and actually slow down and relax a bit....but an employer hires people for certain jobs and certain schedules. That employer shouldn't have to be required to make adjustments for everyone's personal beliefs.

IMO, this is just more political correctness which only opens up a HUGE can of worms and creates problems.

the calendar, which has never changed, the first day of the week starts with Sunday and always has. Man calls Saturday and Sunday, the weekend but, according to the calendar, Sunday is the first day. Many people say it doesn't matter. It must have mattered to God, if he told us to remember one certain day and I don't think he told us to chose between 2 days. I include health care "people" even though I didn't give them in my example. These aren't just "personal" beliefs...these are religious beliefs...a big difference and very important to many people. I really don't see how days off is such a big adjustment for businesses to make. There are always others willing to work on those days. Not allowing someone to practice their religious beliefs also opens up a HUGE can of worms and creates problems. If you don't believe me, ask a Muslim. ;)

If you don't like our laws, go back where you came from! This is really getting ridiculous how people come from other countries and think we should change for them. I shouldn't have to push 1 for English, not buy pork because someone can't handle it, not get a cab because I am blind, etc.

I certainly wouldn't go to another country and demand that they change their laws for me. I would have to adapt to their laws if I chose to live there.

It is absolutely ridiculous how we are accommodating all these foreigners. I really don't care what their religious beliefs are. Every religion has their own beliefs but we don't change laws to accommodate them. We don't ban cars and electricity because the Amish people don't use it.

If you can't live with our laws, go home! You are in our country, not yours.

"Every religion has their own beliefs but we don't change laws to accommodate them."

Not exactly true. Whether it's a regligious belief or just a belief, this country has changed laws to accommodate many people. Case in point--homosexuals and homosexual marriage.

Your words--"If you can't live with our laws, go home! You are in our country, not yours." This is my country--I was born and raised here as were my parents, grandparents and great grandparents and I have to live with laws I don't care for so where do I go? This is my home.

Your words--"I certainly wouldn't go to another country and demand that they change their laws for me." If you're homosexual, why would you need to go anywhere? You can cry discrimination/homophobia and get the laws changed right here. So many think they have to be catered to and that includes our own citizens with their own special agendas. Why get upset with these people who don't want to touch pork, especially if they are American citizens, just because you don't like their "beliefs?" I don't touch the nasty stuff either and wouldn't take a job where I was required to--for example a slaughter house for pigs--but in this country where jobs are not that easy to find, I would want some concessions made for me also if I was forced to do something I didn't believe in just to put food on the table. If homosexuals can change the laws of the land to suit their agendas, why not someone else?

We don't ban cars and electricity for the Amish; however, if an Amish person had to drive a car to do a certain job, we might let him/her ride his/her bicycle instead if it didn't interfere with the job. It's getting ridiculous how people from THIS country think we should change for them--in particular our beliefs about marriage and family. We don't have to go to another country to find those who "make demands." We are lucky to have those kind right here in the good ole USA.

Just curious....how did this - sm

I moved to this very small town 5 years ago, and I have noticed that favoritism, who you know, how much money you have, etc. plays a HUGE part in kids sports, school activities, town activities, etc.  Now, I'm not one of those mothers who thinks that my children are the best at everything they do and deserve to be the star all of the time.  Also I have seen it happen to other kids that aren't my own and I've heard other parents complaining about among themselves whilst s ...

Colorado Supermax Town To Obama: KeepNov 13, 2015
Islamic terrorists have no scruples about slaughtering schoolchildren and that's what worries the residents of Florence, Colorado, when they hear the president talk about transferring up to 61 Gitmo prisoners to the Supermax prison in their small town. It should also concern the prison towns in Kansas and South Carolina that the administration is considering as terrorist depositories. In recent years, Muslim radicals have taken two schools hostage, causing the deaths of 318 schoolchildre ...

I Joined My Town's First Baptist Church About 2 Years AgoMar 05, 2012
About 6 months ago, a lot of people got angry and left that church.  It took them about a month to decide to start a new church, which they did.  When everyone left First, I left, too.  When they invited me to the new church they were starting, I went and thought I was really going to enjoy it.  I did not.  Their style of worship is not mine.  It was nothing against them, but yesterday we went back to First.  I was so happy!!  I felt like I had come home w ...

Repent fashions itself as a sort of militia and targets a wide range of community members they deem offensive to their theology: gays, liberal Christians, Muslims, environmentalists, breast cancer events that do not highlight abortion, Halloween, “spring break events,” and pornography shops. On its website, Repent has ...

"A Former Engine Of The G.O.P., The Town Hall Meeting, Aug 14, 2013
They're hardly alone in that. Our new congressman's "town halls" are a joke. He hides at the other end of a phone line his constituents can only listen in on, prescreened and scripted "questions" the only ones "answered," all statements made in politicalese--inane blurb devoid of information alternating with catchphrases designed to focus fear and resentment on the other party. Just wish the Tea Party and Freedom Works would start demonstrasting in his office; he was their candidate ...

A group serving as a central hub of information for congressional town halls was founded by a former Hillary Clinton campaign staffer and its parent company is located at the same address as an organization funded by liberal billionaire George Soros. Democrats have insisted that recent town hall outbursts against Republican politicians occurred organically, likening them to the Tea Party, while President Donald Trump yesterday tweeted that the "so-called ang ...

Tonight On Republican Town Hall A Dairy Farmer Questioning TrumpMar 29, 2016
if Trump gets rid of the illegals because his farm depends on their help and other farmers do as well. Trump is saying for people who "need" their help, i.e. Latinos, they could have Visas to come here and work but they would not be illegal. Guess Trump does not know so many Latinos have gotten here just that way, Visa and then stay. So much for his getting rid of all the illegals. ...

Sockpuppet Army Deployment. Brooks Bros Riots, 2008 Town Hall Disruptions Mar 03, 2011
This links to a fascinating yet long article well worth the time it takes to read it.  Many of the posts on this forum over the past couple of days help to lend much credence to the concerns raised in this piece.  Here are a few choice highlights from it.   HBGary people are talking about creating "personas", what we would call sockpuppets. But for a defense contractor with ties to the federal government, Hunton & Williams, DOD, NSA, and the CIA -  whose enemies are ...
