Dearborn Muslims rally against the First Amendment

Led by a newspaper publisher, Muslim activists will call for putting limits on American free speech at a Dearborn rally this evening. You can't make this stuff up.

Nearly a decade after Dearborn's streets celebrated America for bringing down Saddam Hussein and opening a door to democracy in the Mideast, the same city will be the epicenter today of calls to squelch free speech. Protesting the film, "Innocence of Muslims," that has sparked protests in the Mideast, rally organizer Tarek Baydoun says that so-called blasphemy laws are necessary to prevent speech that hurts the "the religious feelings of Muslims."

This assault on the First Amendment in the name of the prophet Mohammed is a sad day in America - and confirms fears that Muslim-American activists do not understand the fundamental separation of church and state in the American Constitution.

"There is a need for deterrent legal measures against those individuals or groups that want to damage relations between people, spread hate and incite violence," said Arab-American News publisher Osama Siblani, a self-proclaimed "moderate" who is apparently oblivious to how gutting the First Amendment would affect his own business.

God and religion come before country. When their religion comes under attack the first response is not to think of free speech and the first amendment but of silencing the blasphemy.

This is a free country, or at least it used to be free. We welcome(d)immigrants and all religions and there was no problem until the past ? years (don't know exactly when it started-20/30 years ago?)

We only ask(ed) that they follow the law. That includes allowing all to have freedom of religion. It is changing. Shall we make laws the arrest anyone that blasphemys the Christian religion? The Jewish religion? Or just the Muslim religion? See my point?

How about the artist's show in NYC this past week. Should we arrest Andres Serano for the "Pi$$ Jesus" photo? Or does he get a pass because it's disrespectful of the Christian religion? Evidently he does. See my point?

group of muslims but can you consider that this is just one small group from over 6.5 million muslims in the US and they do not represent most American muslims? Freedom of speech knows no religion, color, nationality, etc. Live free of die. Speech is the only thing that is free. Use it for good.

I watched a video today from Deerborn at the Arab Festival. A small group of "Christians" were on the edge of the festival with signs about Jesus. A riot almost erupted. They were hit with stones, bottles, and milk crates among other things by whom? Muslim children, the youngest about 8-10 yo spouting F-U, etc. Where were their peaceful parents?

BTW, the "C'S" had a permit to be legally there but the police turned their back on the kids that were doing the throwing and threatened to arrest the "C's" them if they didn't leave.

I don't agree that the C's were correct in being there, but their freedom of speech was being trampled. The law wasn't doing anything about the kids disorderly conduct and like the "C's" leader stated, the cops were enabling these kids to allow them to do more harm if they felt like it.

I'll stop rambling now, but that is my point. :-)

a bunch of white Americans lead by a U.S. Congressman, all about the need to resort to "Second Amendment rights" to "take back their" (of all the nerve!) country. To be clear, they weren't talking about circulating a petition, they were talking about murder and violent overthrow of the government.

As usual, Homeland Security, the FBI, etc., differentiate between hot air and actual plans, so these despicable free citizens were not arrested, interrogated, or bothered in any way. They were free to babble and blow hard, and they did. And they've no doubt spouted sedition many times since.

So if you want to get excited at the exercise of free speech, I courteously suggest this outrage as a more worthy target than a peaceful petition.

I don't see the US changing free speech anytime soon.

However, what you fail to recognize while you're so busy working yourself into a tizzy about this, is that freedom of speech is also what enables them to hold such rallies. It is also what enables "christians" to hold protests at military funerals.

Wow, what an inspiration they are! They took time out from their busy practices to rally in Washington. This is from late last year. At bottom of page is a COMMENT section containing comments (many of which are recent) from lots of other docs and nurses who couldn't make it to the rally. Remember that many practices are SMALL BUSINESSES, so these guys will be getting a double whammy from taxes, not just from CommieCare. What does that mean to us? EVERY DOCTOR ...
