Don't listen to doctors whining about Obamacare
Posted: Nov 20, 2013
"Medical doctors are highly paid professionals. They earn more money - a lot more money - than your average American. What's more, American doctors get paid more than doctors in any other country.... So when you read stories about doctors whining that Affordable Care Act exchange plans don't pay them enough, please throw up a little in your mouth and proceed to ignore the doctors' complaints."

Do you know how much money it takes to run a doctor's office? How much money they have to pay back in student loans? How much the pay for malpractice insurance?
How much complaining have you all done as MTs about your pay cuts? Why should an MT whine since we "just type stuff."
whatever? - sm

Of course I know how much money it takes to run a doctor's office. Do you know how much money it takes to keep your practice administrator in a Porsche? lol.
I have seen first hand how inept many physicians are at managing their practices - using techniques that are pound wise and penny foolish, such as replacing well-paid, competent employees with twice as many lower-paid, incompetent employees. Or using a revolving string of unpaid medical-assistant interns who wind up costing the practice more - through error and ineffectiveness - than can possibly be offset by their gratis status.
As for the cost of student loans and malpractice, I am sure you realize these are areas where many agree reform is much needed.
If we want healthcare reform, I think we all have to upgrade our apathy a bit.
Far cry from the humble house call - WhoNeedsEm?

It's like the ACA is trying to trash the whole healthcare system in this country. People have accepted the mandate, so they crash the website so you cannot get on it. It's a debacle every step of the way, from high premiums/deductibles, low/no co-pay, can't keep your doctor. No one is happy with it, pracitioners or patients. It's a mess. Let's hope we end up universal single payer. That would be better than what we have now.
Not apathetic - whatever

I don't begrudge a person for making money, that's all.

[ In Reply To ..]
This isn't about begrudging anyone's income.
What the what? - whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
How is "Ignore drs whining about pay cuts because they make too much anyway" not begrudging them their income?
I'll give you a dollar if you can show me that quote in my post - what are you reading?
[ In Reply To ..]
are we just saying anything? You have completely fabricated the content of my post and the meaning of the article I posted. I think I prefer apathy over spurious claims at this point.
OMG -- It's a paraphrase of your original post - upgrade from whatever to wow.

Here's part of your original:
So when you read stories about doctors whining that Affordable Care Act exchange plans don't pay them enough, please throw up a little in your mouth and proceed to ignore the doctors' complaints."
Which = don't listen to Drs whining about pay cuts because they make too much anyway.
no, poster, you don't get to define what something means - lol
[ In Reply To ..]
There is a big difference between saying "doctors make too much" versus pointing out that doctors complain that exchange plans don't pay them enough.
Neither I, nor the article I was quoting, require your translation.

Misuse of words is not artistic license - (I can't believe you just said this) sm
[ In Reply To ..]
So intellectual honesty and journalistic integrity are somehow equivalent to communist conformity? Can you even explain what you just said?
Believe it. That's right, I went there. - whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
Using quotation marks as an emphasis has nothing to do with either intellectual honesty or journalistic integrity. Is it proper via the formal rules of English? No it's not, and, for the purposes of posting on this board, I don't care.
It's called I don't feel like using italics, especially if their use hereafter would be only to provide you the satisfaction.
More to the point: Why is it that when a liberal doesn't have a valid point to argue that liberal resorts hyper-focusing on an irrelevant distraction, like the "misuse" of quotation marks?
please: spare us the indignity of watching you unravel - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I had a valid point. I did not argue it. You, by way of contrast, 1) applied your own definition to my words and then 2) suggested that my request for accuracy was somehow equivalent to communist conformity.
More to the point: Why is it when a conservative doesn't have a valid point they have to resort to verbal gerrymandering, and when asked to be honest, accuse others of communism?
It's nice to be a mirror for someone. - whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
The whole topic of discussion, until you derailed it, was about the decreasing pay of doctors via lessened reimbursements, and how they shouldn't complain about it 'cause they make too much anyway. You never supplied any point about that, instead focusing on my intentional misuse of quotation marks.
Until you have an interesting, discussion-worthy opinion of the actual to offer, I'm done. (which, I'm sure you feel relieved about -- much less pressure for you to come up with a valid train of thought)
I was the OP - I authored thd discussion

I derailed nothing.
Yeah. That darn communist grammar. - what a joke.nm

Rush predicted this would happen.... - MT57
[ In Reply To ..]
RUSH: Hey, folks, I'll tell you something. I'm gonna make a prediction for you, because, man, am I knocking 'em out of the park on my predictions. Holy smokes. What I predicted would happen in the sports media about the NFL is happening at an even more rapid rate, and here's another one. There are more and more doctors now saying that they are not gonna participate in either Obamacare or the exchanges, or these networks.
This is an easy prediction. What's gonna happen, you're gonna start seeing left-wingers in the media and on the blogs start attacking doctors for being greedy. Doctors refusing to participate in Obamacare will be called selfish and greedy and they've got plenty of money, they don't need all they're making, they could easily live great lives, they don't have to quit, they're just greedy and selfish. That's the next thing coming. And I got a couple of e-mails from people just during the course of the program who are curious to know what is it about Obamacare that's causing people to wake up to liberals and government not being able to do anything. These people have said, "I mean, this is nothing new. The government can't do anything right. Why is this causing everybody to wake up?"
Right on Rush, it's starting to happen - already. n/m

Obama government will create chaos (can't argue with that one, can you?) and then the government will swoop in and save us (one-payer). No one listened. Socialized medicine is upon us, and some of you Socialists are actually happy about it. Can't wait to see what happens when you're actually living it.

The healthcare is so bad there they are lucky to live near the border and come here for their health care. One of my cousins has a debilitating illness and their great socialized system has her on waiting lists for months and months. Here she gets seen when she needs to be.
I know someone else in another country who had a family member pass away while they were waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for their appointment. Which kept getting cancelled on them.
They are all warning us socialized healthcare is not the way to go.
That's interesting, but it wasn't my or my - family's experience. nm

Guess everyone has different expectations. Some don't really care what kind of health care they get, others do.

Doctors Rally Against ObamaCare In D.C.Mar 21, 2010Wow, what an inspiration they are! They took time out from their busy practices to rally in Washington. This is from late last year. At bottom of page is a COMMENT section containing comments (many of which are recent) from lots of other docs and nurses who couldn't make it to the rally.
Remember that many practices are SMALL BUSINESSES, so these guys will be getting a double whammy from taxes, not just from CommieCare. What does that mean to us? EVERY DOCTOR ...
Doctors Begin To Refuse ObamaCare PatientsAug 08, 2014"Obamacare plans have shrunk payments t physicians so much that some doctors say they won’t be able to afford to accept Obamacare coverage. But with low physician reimbursement rates, the problem could get even worse."
