Doctors will be leaving the profession in droves

Posted: Jul 14, 2012

Doctors are threatening to leave healthcare due to Obamacare. Medicine is going to a cookie-cutter modality and PAs and NPs will be in the near future. Face it our healthcare is in the pitts because doctors are not allowed to treat anymore. The government will be your only healthcare. I am opting out of all this even if I have to pay a penalty. After age 59, you will get palliative care. It is basically a death care plan and getting rid of the elderly people and the very young because it costs too much to care for them. ;

Doctors will not be leaving unless it is to retire. - Where would they go? sm

With everyone insured they will have more patients and make more money than ever.

You actually believe that? They will get paid LESS - with more patients and stress!

[ In Reply To ..]
They will have lots more Medicaid patients, which pays them almost nothing. I know local doctors who are planning early retirement because of Obamacare (I am not the OP). There is already a shortage of doctors. Obamacare is going to be a disaster for the country and healthcare.

Hmm, what will they do then, I wonder - Maybe become MTs! (nm)

At least they will be paid for every patient they see. That is not - sm

what is happening now for doctors, but especially for hospitals. Did you know that on average hospitals collect about 4 cents for every dollar that they bill? That is why they have to bill 10-20 times the actual cost to stay in business. Another point is that solo practices are a thing of the past. Keeping up with new equipment and the overhead of running an office alone just don't work for most practices anymore. My docs say they are happy with Obamacare, not perfect, but what is?

Obamacare is a disaster and recognized - for the disaster it is by

anyone smart enough to do the math. Neurosurgeons will get paid the same as MDs, currently listed as $ 15.00 in Obamacare. Yet they have about a decade more schooling, residency, education. Those that think MDs, any MDs, are going to put up with Obama-monstrosity are very naive. Doctors in my area now refuse Medicaid patients because of the endless red tape and problems getting paid now.
This is not true. Get real. A surgeon may get the - sm

same compensation for an office visit as a any other doctor, but will be compensated for surgeries and diagnostic tests performed.
I'm not sure I understand this - sm

I have been trying to find the whole thing to read for myself, but can't find it.

Are you saying that every doctor in the country will be paid the same (i.e. Dr. A in Arizona will get paid the same as Dr. B in Pennsylvania if its an office visit or Dr. C in Tennessee will get paid the same as Dr. D in Minnesota for a face lift?
refusing patients is reprehensible - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Doctors do not refuse Medicaid patients because of "endless red tape and problems getting paid" - they refuse Medicaid patients because reimbursement from private insurance is greater. There are doctors who actually refuse to see Medicare patients for the same reason.

good - sm

Doctors have been displeased with their incomes for some time now. In response to reduced reimbursement, concierge practices began to spring up in the mid 1990s (you will note this predates Obama).

I have no sympathy for doctors who whine and I cannot care about what doctors threaten. If they want out, I say let them go. Perhaps we will be left with a pool of doctors who are interested in patient care.

where did the responses go? - sm

Prior to this thread being relocated to the politics board, there were two posts of interest in response to this one. Were they inadvertently removed?

My favorite doctor left about 15 years ago because things were so bad - He retired very early

[ In Reply To ..]
He start out by cutting down his office staff. I noticed that he was also cutting down on supplies. Then he sold out.

I recently went to a dermatologist who said that over the last dozen years he has gotten so discouraged that he is considering leaving too.

Another one, an allergy doctor, told me that he is depressed. He said that patients don't realize that most doctors really do get into medicine because they care about healing people. Over the last years since everything is computerized, he feels that he has lost what made him become a physician in the first place.

my opinion... - sm

It's inappropriate for physicians to be telling their patients that they are discouraged and depressed.

Update On New Profession ..... SMJan 30, 2012
Hi everyone, I am the one who posted a few weeks ago about going for the job with my State as a dispatcher. Good news!!!!! I had my polygraph today and I PASSED, lol. Yes, I was nervous, of course, because I realize that these are not 100% accurate but I decided ahead of time to just take a deep breath, be completely honest and it worked. I am so excited and hoping (with the way things are going) to be out of this field before the end of February (or earlier, hopefully). I believe that the ...

Another Update On New ProfessionApr 11, 2012
Well, it has been a month, short of 5 days, that I walked away from the medical field and medical transcription after over 23 years.  I have to say that it has been the best thing that I have done for myself and my family in forever.  The work schedule is a little screwy (dispatcher for law enforcement) but with no small kids and my husband already in law enforcement for 27 years, it has been adaptable for us.  The first week was spent becoming certified on state and national comm ...

B.O. LIED, GUTTING OUR PROFESSIONMay 18, 2010
Check out this well-written op-ed, written by a physician, at the WSJ (Wall Street Journal) site. No, You Can't Keep Your Health Plan Insurers and doctors are already consolidating their businesses in the wake of ObamaCare's passage. President Obama guaranteed Americans that after health reform became law they could keep their insurance plans and their doctors. It's clear that this promise cannot be kept. Insurers and physicians are already reshaping their businesses as a resul ...

Another Update On New Profession, I Am Out Of Medical Transcription As Of (SM)Feb 20, 2012
March 16, 2012. I went for the interview today, which went exceptionally well especially considering I have not had a "live" interview in over 20 years, I was offered the job on the spot and after explaining that I want to work a notice, I will start with my State on March 16th. I am so excited, if I could have started today I would have, lol. One of the huge concerns that I was having was the social anxiety that I have developed since I have been home. However, today I seemed to come out of ...

Does This Profession Make You Question Your Diagnoses?Nov 18, 2011
I find that I am not open to accepting dr. advice without questioning as I have worked many years in this profession and have heard a lot, a little knowledge is dangerous but has also aided me in escaping many "bullets." The latest was a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation and recommendation to be shocked into normal sinus rhythm and go on blood thinners for the rest of my life. I have said no to this as 1) I am afraid to be shocked, either by paddles or the T-method. 2) I am reluctant to go on cou ...

Poll: Who Is The More Whiney Profession: Nurses Or Teachers?Feb 11, 2016
After the barrage of FB posts complaining that these superbowl football stars get paid millions yet teacher make (they say) peanuts i'm seriously annoyed.  2 year level RNs were previously the most annoying in my opinon, whining about pay when most make $20+ an hour yet have a terrible attitude, think they know more than doctors and the public in general.  Caveat: This does not include bachelors/masters level RNs.  For some reason it's the ones with the 2 year degree tha ...

Obama: I'm Not Leaving After Jan. 20. Jan 01, 2017
Obama reassured disheartened supporters he intended to use his time in D.C. defending the Democrats’ agenda. “I promise you that next year Michelle and I are going to be right there with you, and the clouds are going to start parting and the sun is going to come back out, and we’re going to be busy, involved in the amazing stuff that we’ve been doing all these years before,” he said. ...

So Excited!!! After 24 Years, I May Be Leaving MT Forever! SMJan 18, 2012
Please, please, please keep your fingers crossed for me! I applied for a job with my State as a dispatcher, they called this morning and scheduled my polygraph (I know, lol). This is step 5 of about 9 steps but WOW I am almost there!!! According to the person that I spoke with this morning, if I pass the polygraph then I pretty much have the job, the rest is just "routine necessary stuff." I am so excited!!! At one time in my MT career I would have been taking a cut in pay but not any longe ...

Doctors ErrorsJan 04, 2012

Doctors Trying To Talk Down To Me, Really?Mar 19, 2013
I am wondering if others run into what I have or is this just me who seems to have a bull's eye on them and others think they can say what they want and I will not respond. Anyway, this morning I went back to the ophthalmologist, had cataract surgery about 3 weeks ago. I noticed the first visit the day after surgery he seemed a little put off like he might have been a little huffy but nothing else happened that time. This morning we were talking and I was telling him about not being able to ...

Doctors VisitAug 13, 2013
My grandson had been complaining of abdominal pain for a few weeks on and off so my grandson made an appointment yesterday with a GI doc, well known in my town. We went to the appointment, I paid the $25.00 copay and it was the shortest doctors appointment I have ever been to. He walked in asked what the problem was and then said well lets schedule some tests to see what is going on. He scheduled both an EGD and colonoscopy on an 18 year old. Never touched my grandson, never felt his belly. ...

Hospitals Should NOT Hire DoctorsSep 18, 2016
At least, not if they are going to be interacting with patients or dictating reports. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is ridiculous.    I'm not xenophobic or racist but it just plain puts patient care in jeopardy when they can't communicate effectively with patients or speak clearly enough for MTs to understand them. I sit here and scream obscenities at my computer while these people are ruining my line counts because if I don't then I'll prob ...

Doctors Rally Against ObamaCare In D.C.Mar 21, 2010
Wow, what an inspiration they are!  They took time out from their busy practices to rally in Washington.  This is from late last year.  At bottom of page is a COMMENT section containing comments (many of which are recent) from lots of other docs and nurses who couldn't make it to the rally. Remember that many practices are SMALL BUSINESSES, so these guys will be getting a double whammy from taxes, not just from CommieCare.  What does that mean to us?  EVERY DOCTOR ...
