As a matter of fact, even though this was allegedly a "joke," other GOP goons did'nt quite get it. Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert drafted legislation to allow members of Congress to carry concealed weapons in the District of Columbia - including in the Capitol itself. DC law bars individuals from carrying concealed weapons for self-defense. Betcha Gabby Giffords never could imagine after all she has been through to get herself back to work, that she would be faced with the possibility (however remote it may ultimately prove to be) that she would have to contend with armed wingnuts inside the House chambers.
Coburn went on to make even more of a jackarse of himself with his declartion that President Obama, "as an African-American male," had reaped "tremendous advantage from government programs. In Coburn's twisted mindset, this explains Obama's "intent to create dependency...since it worked so well for him." Guess no one ever told him Oklahoma was never really a full-fledged confederate state.
I would be interested to hear him elaborate on precisely WHAT advantages Obama gained from government programs and explain to us how the conclusion he drew from this delusion is not racist as the day is long, all joking aside.

Judge a person alone. Do not lump everyone together - It goes both ways

What he said about Obama's intent to create dependency is exactly right, but the shooting comment should have stayed out of it.
The advantages of course is when you have everyone dependent on all the freebies you give them, just who exactly do you think they'll be voting for? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out (all joking aside).
Back to the main issue. If democrats all don't think alike neither do republicans or independents. People do and say stupid things - BOTH sides.
Coburn not only asinine GOP in this article. Allowing concealed weapons - in Congress chambers is absurd.

Senator Coburn is a GOP leader. This afternooon, while functioning in his LEADERSHIP role, he made these highly inappropriate and insensitive remarks about colleagues who also have leadership roles. To say GOP leadership at it finest is accurate, as it applies to this particular leader who on this particular day who made these particular statements. Nowhere in the post does the discussion go beyond holding GOP Senator Coburn ACCOUNTABLE for his own statements.
With DC being the partisan place that it is, it would be really refreshing if once...just once...another GOP leader would step up to the plate to acknowledge that the statement happened, then condemn it as unacceptable.
Your comments about Coburn's racist African-American-male-dependency statements are so far off the mark, they merit no direct response. Coburn was not speaking about political advantage. His comments were intimate, personal and were aimed at the president's personal character. The article took this atrocity out of context. Coburn was speaking about Obama's life and how he grew up before mentioned "advantages."
Being from the South, racist messaging is easy to recognize, having grown up aound it all my life. When I heard him say that, it made me feel like it was the 1950s all over again. I am surprised he didn't work the word "uppity" into the conversation before he was done. Disgusting.

They pulled the same exact crap. Except they really escalated it to the middle and lower income. We got sacked with high taxes while the corporations and rich didn't pay their share.
