C-Span 3 has a hearing on the acquisition of Smithfield. The man testifying, Daniel Slane states if China buys Smithfield, what keeps them from dominating the free market? Also, American companies can't buy into Chinese food companies so we shouldn't allow them or any other country to buy our food producing companies, especially since it would be more than likely that they would move the company overseas and then sell Smithfield products back to the U.S. at a higher price and lesser standard. Even if they don't move the company overseas, they will control most of the pork production in the U.S.
Lanny Pope, CEO of Smithfield is testifying and he approves this and it's states it means jobs, it's good news for the farmers, and it's good news for the shareholders. Man, this guy is really dreaming. He has no idea how these other governments work.
He states the Chinese eat more pork per capita than Americans...I disagree. The Chinese population may be higher than America but they eat LESS MEAT than Americans. He also thinks their products would be under the same scrutiny as other meat products that come into this country.
Yeah, right. As Serroud Brown states, we've seen the contamination of drugs produced in China, the weaker steel, the toys with lead paint, etc.

BTW, here are their brands:
