"Big business is doing fine" and offshore tax havens

Posted: Aug 24, 2012

I just got back from having lab work drawn and caught the tail end of this story, so haven't got much detail yet.  I guess the RNC is scrambling to scour their collection of clip montages making reference to Obama's much derided similar private sector comments.  Of course, the president made no references to offshoring money in connection with private sector jobs growth.

According to the clueless wonder, BB gets all the loans they could ever want, does a bang-up job skating through regulations, knows how to play the tax code for all it's worth and is quite adept at taking advantage of global tax shelters., unlike the small-minded little people running smaller businesses.

In an earlier post, which is largely being ignored, a link was provided to another comment a Time magazine reporter dug up and published this week that gives a prime example of just how hard one's own mouth can come back later and bite one's backside.  IMO, this was quite a doozie and is worth repeating:

The Tea Party people are like "ferrets in the dishwasher. They're so frightened and angry, they'll even bite Bob Bennett, who's trying to get the country out of this mess." Fortunately for Mitt, he made no reference to clinging to their guns and bibles to help assuage their fears.

Naturally, the tax haven stuff is overshadowing his aborted attempt to refocus on the economy, AGAIN, especially since its anemic content was short on details and nothing new.  I was tickled pink to hear he is putting his Bain Capitol and Olympics superstar experience out there again, right in plain view.

On the up side, it looks like the RNC is going to kick off Monday night, as scheduled, despite the fact that the media will be giving next to no coverage of the event on account of the hurricane.  Given the recent practice of distributing icy "hands-off-issues" hand-outs for the press, it's probably just as well.

Did You All Know About The Fine Being $95 For The (sm)Aug 28, 2013
first year if you don't have insurance.  After lots and lots of people get their subsidies, insurance companies with slowly go under, second year fine goes up, and do you know what the fine is after the 2016 election?  $695.  Wonder how many low information voters don't know this.  Lots, I'd wager.  On to single payer, just as planned.  Many have been duped.  ...

New Yorkers Who Don't Vote Should Pay $10 Fine. Mar 19, 2017
legislation this week that would establish “compulsory voting” in the state and punish those who don’t vote with a $10 fine. On the face of it, it looks a lot like Australia’s compulsory voting law. Wait a minute. I thought people can’t afford to get an identification form, like a license, to prove they are eligible to vote. So how the heck can they afford a fine. She hates the poor! One of the Kennedys thinks the govt should own our organs by default. I guess if the govt ...

How Do You Allow Your Dog To Do Their Business?Feb 16, 2010
So to those who do own dogs, do you walk them, tie them to a tree/lead or just let them wander around the yard (hopefully a fenced yard) on their own? While I was growing up, we raised 3 dogs and all lived to be from 14-17 yo. They were always walked several times a day no matter what the weather was. Never did we have them outside in a yard, nor did we have them tied to a tree or anything else. To my parents, tying them up and allowing them be alone outside was just unthinkable. In two weeks, ...

How Trump is Draining the Swamp Chaos or strategy? This Might Explain a Lot of Things Going on at The White House "Apparently, liberals and never-Trumpers are so isolated in their political circles that they have no concept how things work in the real world of business and corporate America. For example, they completely fail to grasp the concept of the "hatchet man." Allow me to explain: Say you are a business tycoon. You just successfully completed a large-scale acquisition an ...

As A Conservative And Gun-owner I'm Fine With RestrictingJun 17, 2016
...and I mean ANY guns down to and including pellet guns.  There are some other things that I would also prohibit them from owning, such as anything that can be used in making bombs, etc.  No timers, no mercury or remote switches, no radio transmitters, no primers, etc..  So sorry, but if you're on a TERROR WATCH LIST there's a reason for it - or should be (see below). This makes perfect sense, so I don't see why Trump's willingness to consider this should be ...

To Be Honest, I'd Be Fine If We Split The CountryDec 08, 2015
Split it top to bottom in the middle so each new country has a coastline, and borders with Canada and Mexico.  Let the liberals migrate to Liberalania, and conservatives to Conservania.  Independents can choose, but the choice is irrevocable.  Then, let's see which nation prospers and which does not. First, I know where most independents will choose to go, and it ain't Liberalania.  Second, I advise Conservania, as its first official act, to build a very, very, ve ...

Regulations And BusinessOct 24, 2012
I saw some comments on the board recently about the strangulation of business through regulation.  It's a subject I've always been fascinated by because of its vast complexity, politicization and above all a complete lack of named regulations.  It's so rare that any politician right or left ever names an individual regulation they don't like.  They are always referred to in bulk: "Those darn regulations are killing American jobs."  Certainly some are point ...

Oscars Security: Looks Like The Hollywood Jerks Are Fine WithFeb 18, 2017

How Much Does A Business Have To Make Before It Does Not Have To Pay TaxesApr 05, 2011
We've been asking the wrong question. My family has a business. We hire people, so according to the current standards, we should not have to pay taxes. We are creating jobs. However, we have not yet reached that magic number. It's  higher than most of you think. You have to make more than a million a year, much more than that probably, before you get to stop paying taxes. Before you get to that point, you get to save money in other ways. I paid cash for my house. I pay cash for ...

Trump Bad For Local BusinessFeb 20, 2017
For some of the businesses and government agencies that surround President Trump’s “Winter White House,” the effects of his frequent weekend getaways to Mar-a-Lago can best be told in numbers. $200,000 in lost fuel sales at a large local airport in a single four-day visit this month. 75 no-shows at a new restaurant in just one night. $60,000 a day to pay overtime to sheriff’s deputies who guard the many closed roads, a tab that is about $1.5 million over all ...

What's A Good Conditioner For Fine, Limp, Tangly Hair?Jan 17, 2010
I've always had troublesome hair - thin, fine, limp, tangles at every turn of my head.  Conditioners are a must or I could never comb it at all.  Most conditioners are too thin, runny and wimpy for my hair, and it takes me forever to comb it out (my hair is really long, down to my fanny, and straight as a board).   Every time I find a product that works in my hair, they take it off the market, it drives me nuts!  My current product is Pantene conditio ...
