If you started that business, you didn't really do that, someone else did.

That is one of the stupidist things I everheard. Another stupid thing he said was: If you inflate your tires, you'll be able to save on gas mileage. I mean, he thinks his base is really stupid and they believe anything he tells them. If I said that to someone in normal conversation, they would laugh at me.;

Properly inflated tires WILL improve gas mileage, lenthen the life of the tire, and improve brakability and traction. Look it up.

About the other thing, he was speaking to the workers and their contributions to the success of any business. This is still only half the story, though. The workers wouldn't have had those jobs in the first place if the business owners hadn't gotten the ball rolling and did their part to keep it rolling.

O says all kinds of ignorant things. Been to 57 states and - give a sick person a breathalyzer ! LOL.nm

If you'd research even a tiny bit rather than just glancing at conservative headlines, you might understand better. The original statement (quoted below) is an observation that we all rely on one another, and our successes are built on the foundations others have made.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen"

There was nothing taken out of context - The Sarge

[ In Reply To ..]
Not the OP, but I and others HAVE researched and we DO understand. More than you want us to. I'll go by your original statement and explain it better to you.

The statement is most definitely not in reference to any relying on other people. That's the most ridiculous thing to say. Our successes are most certainly NOT built on the foundations others have made.

I, my family and other successful people I know make it on our own. We didn't get any help. We saved, we worked 16 hour days, nights weekends, holidays. We sweat and we scraped and we sacrificed to be successful. Not by getting it from someone else.

That statement you so proudly quote is a communist viewpoint 100% through and through. In simplistic terms so that maybe you'll understand what he is saying is if your successful and worked hard to get where you are, we are going to try and make you feel guilty, tell you you didn't do it, other people did it for you, so therefore it's only write you divide everything you've earned and sweated and given your life up for to divide your stuff amongst other people who won't work and do what you did to become successful.

Maybe if he wasn't so busy being ashamed of the country and the flag he might just learn something about the American people. We work hard and we struggle. If we want to be successful we have to give 110%. We are the only ones who can determine our future. We are the only ones who can make a successful with our lives. Take away what we have rightfully earned by spending 80 and more hours at work each week, giving up and sacrificing to make our lives better for our children and what you now have is communism.

But no, she did not take anything out of context.

If YOU would do independent research rather than reading liberal headlines and having MSNBC and CNN tell you what tho think and say YOU might understand better. But I'm going to have to so with a "no you won't" on that one.

O wants to "distribute the wealth" and eventually make everyone equal so there is no difference between the poor and the middle class. Maybe he wants them to all meet in the middle and we can be like those people in the Time Machine movie that just live our lives without any incentive to do anything and get eaten by those monsters that live underground. Anyway, Obama gets alot of his instructions from Saul Alinsky (don't know how to spell his name), a handbook for Communists and how to run the country like a communist country.

done everything on your own to be successful.....I am very successful, but I thank my high school typing teacher, my mother and father, my friends who assisted with everything from $$$ to food, to living arrangements, when I was in need, my church for food, when I was in need, my friend who gave me a part time job and a nice garage apartment to stay in while housesitting and puppy sitting, my country and its warriors for keeping me safe, my police and fire/emt folks for the same......I could go on forever with this, but just know that I KNOW that I am way I am today because of determination and hard work, but also because of all the assistance I got along the way, and not just handouts, but friends sharing with me.

First, yes I did everything on my own to get where I am. I went to school, I put in OT, I worked weekends and holidays, I did it MYSELF. That's great you had help. Some people do. NOT EVERYONE. If I go by your philosophy then I would have to say, the guy that held the door open for me, the mailman who handed me my mail, the guy who took my money at the checkout stand, the guy who told me what isle to find the milk in, the guy at the green light who let me go first, etc, etc. I too could go on forever, but think you get the message.

Every child who goes through school has teachers. Some are good, some are not, but none of my teachers helped me to become successful. They did their job paide by tax payers dollars. "I" opened the books "I" studied my homework "I" took my test. Not the teacher. Also did a lot of home study. Nobody there helped me either.

Again, that is great you got help. It was still you and you alone that became successful because you wanted it. Not anyone else. NOT everyone has people to help them. Most business owners and successful people I know did it on their own.

And since you don't know me there is no reason for you to be amazed.
I also forgot to add - The Sarge - sm

Nobody is going to make me feel guilty for all the work "I" did to become successful so that I should embrace communism and divide what I have evenly among everyone else. GET A GRIP!

and read zero messages on this board. It was blissful.

Yet here I am, back in it again. :)

I get frustrated when people take everything SO literally on the board. We all know politicians use figures of speech, or that things are picked apart and taken out of context, then manipulated into something like:

OMG, Obama eats babies!

or

Mitt Romney survives off of boiled fat from elderly women!

It's over the top here sometimes. Frequent vacations are recommended.

You are making this into a personal vendetta with another poster. All posters have the right to post how they feel about issues. The poster you replied to did nothing to deserve your personal swipes. The only one who took it off discussion was yourself when you went after this individual poster. He stayed on topic.

This board is not a place for poster to go after, ridicule, poke fun of, bully, or bait into an argument. This is for discussion of political topics, which is what he was doing.

Posters need to handle difference of opinions better. Calling someone names accusing them of something that doesn't even come close to anything they said does not belong on this board.

If you don't feel like reading the board here anymore that is your prerogative. Just don't come. You don't need to announce it.

When I think Obama is being unfairly slammed, I'll be the first one to defend him. But this time, that's exactly what he said, and that's exactly what he meant.

Teachers teach everybody (and are paid with taxpayer dollars). Roads and bridges are built for everybody (and are paid for with taxpayer dollars). Every American has an equal opportunity to "thrive." The people who built businesses took on the challenge to thrive on something they, themselves, created, above and beyond the benefit we ALL receive. THEY laid out the cash, THEY put in the hours, THEY took the risk. THEY did something the rest of us, who enjoy the same privileges, DIDN'T do. While we work our 9 to 5 jobs, THEY created something that hadn't existed before and risked everything to do so.

THEY most certainly DID build that. They are one of America's pride. They represent the spirit our country was built on -- that this is the land of opportunity and you can accomplish anything you want if you work for it. And Obama stuck his finger in the eye of each and every one of them.

Shame on you, Mr. President. Shame. On. You.

Ahhh, the scientifically challenged blame Obama - for aerodynamics

[ In Reply To ..]
Fact: At 24 PSI you'll get a softer ride but lower gas mileage and faster tires tread wear, while at 32 PSI you'll get a rougher ride but higher mileage and longer tire life. Inflating tires to proper pressures helps save on gas mileage. It's a conservation measure that has nothing to do with a "stupid" political base. It's science.

That's not what he said. But I'm sure this does not trouble you. What SHOULD trouble you is the fact that the RNC used this trumped-up misquote as their mission statement for Romney's campaign. What troubles ME (among other things) is the fact that you don't understand the relationship between tire pressure and gas mileage (though I wager you are happy to complain about gas prices). Under 40 are we?

when will all those folks that believe this is what he was saying, plesae read the entire context of the speech. Of course, he believes that the business owner created his business, all he is trying to say is that there are many people, industries, government programs, etc that created things, infrastructure, etc. that were available to this business person when he created his business. Yes, he/she worked hard to make his business a success, but how successful would he have been without government subsidized or created infrastructure and other folks.

Please, please dont just hear bits and pieces (sound bites) from the talking heads on cable TV, please educate yourselves on exactly what was said and in what context.

How Do You Allow Your Dog To Do Their Business?Feb 16, 2010
So to those who do own dogs, do you walk them, tie them to a tree/lead or just let them wander around the yard (hopefully a fenced yard) on their own? While I was growing up, we raised 3 dogs and all lived to be from 14-17 yo. They were always walked several times a day no matter what the weather was. Never did we have them outside in a yard, nor did we have them tied to a tree or anything else. To my parents, tying them up and allowing them be alone outside was just unthinkable.
