Can you believe Hostess is going out of business?

Hostess is owned by a group of stock investors and the company has filed for bankrupcy at least twice I think. So, not surprised but at the same time its a shame.
yeah, but it's crap food with no nutrition - sayanara, Hostess (nm)

Here is a company in business for 83 years, been having trouble for a while before the warehouse strike but surviving, albeit a struggle. Now this. When they needed the company as a whole to band together in order to get through these times, enter a union with their ME, ME stance to ante up and fold. Only thing is, they antied up tens of thousands of jobs across the nation...and it backfired.
This goes way deeper than you choose to see. What is happening out there is a tear down of the American Dream and nobody is safe...come on, something as solid (83 83 83 years) as Hostess? Not to mention all the other products made by them - not just cup cakes, you know.
Unemployment seems the United way now. Screw the American Dream...
I always adored their Ding-Dongs & Cupcakes, but - havent been able to afford them as an MT.

They never seemed to be on sale, either.
yeah. my son has worked for Hostess - for 12 years. His last day

Is Monday. He has 5 kids. Very sad
Good luck to him. - A friend of mine losing job, too.

I wish your son the best. Are they offering any kind of severence or something to tide him over until he finds another job? A friend of mine has been a delivery truck driver for them for at least 10 years. He is nearing retirement, so hopefully he can sign on with another company.
no more Twinkies. sm - anon

Oh, that is sad about your son. I hope they will be okay. One of our friends just retired from Wonder Bread. He had been a mechanic there for many, many years. I hope it does not affect his pension.

I Sort of - Rest my Case About Unions
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sorry for those who have lost jobs, but I am one of those weirdos who is not for unions. They fight for someone to get paid $30 an hour to place a cherry on a cupcake. Sorry. Maybe that's extreme because they probably have a machine now to put the cherry on, but you get my point.
The unions did it to themselves, too big for their britches.
I would never, ever work for a union. This is exactly what happens. This is exactly what happened to the big car companies. Hellooo- $50 an hour to screw a bolt into a door? Who do you think pays for that?
Thank you! - Union Hater

Unions put these places out of business with their ridiculous demands. I have known union workers who made TONS of money. I am NOT against people making money, but the union mentality was that the big company OWED them for their very existance.
I actually heard a few talking one time and they knew there was a big problem with a piece of machinery they were making, but their only job was to put the gauge on. They didn't even care that something could go horribly wrong. "It's not my job" was the mentality. They were making upwards of $35 per hour to hook that gauge on, on the assembly line.

Need Ideas For A Non-alcohol Hostess GiftMay 14, 2015Our family has been invited to dinner while on vacation in another city. We are teetotalers, so I'd rather not take a bottle of wine. Flowers might be okay, but may be hard to find in a strange city, so I would like other ideas for something we might take for a hostess gift, ideally something that could be purchased at home and transported. Thanks for any suggestions. ...
How Do You Allow Your Dog To Do Their Business?Feb 16, 2010So to those who do own dogs, do you walk them, tie them to a tree/lead or just let them wander around the yard (hopefully a fenced yard) on their own?
While I was growing up, we raised 3 dogs and all lived to be from 14-17 yo. They were always walked several times a day no matter what the weather was. Never did we have them outside in a yard, nor did we have them tied to a tree or anything else. To my parents, tying them up and allowing them be alone outside was just unthinkable.

This Might Explain a Lot of Things Going on at The White House
"Apparently, liberals and never-Trumpers are so isolated in their political circles that they have no concept how things work in the real world of business and corporate America. For example, they completely fail to grasp the concept of the "hatchet man." Allow me to explain:

Regulations And BusinessOct 24, 2012I saw some comments on the board recently about the strangulation of business through regulation. It's a subject I've always been fascinated by because of its vast complexity, politicization and above all a complete lack of named regulations. It's so rare that any politician right or left ever names an individual regulation they don't like. They are always referred to in bulk: "Those darn regulations are killing American jobs." Certainly some are point ...

How Much Does A Business Have To Make Before It Does Not Have To Pay TaxesApr 05, 2011We've been asking the wrong question.
My family has a business. We hire people, so according to the current standards, we should not have to pay taxes. We are creating jobs.
However, we have not yet reached that magic number. It's higher than most of you think. You have to make more than a million a year, much more than that probably, before you get to stop paying taxes.
Before you get to that point, you get to save money in other ways. I paid cash for my house. I pay cash for ...

Trump Bad For Local BusinessFeb 20, 2017For some of the businesses and government agencies that surround President Trump’s “Winter White House,” the effects of his frequent weekend getaways to Mar-a-Lago can best be told in numbers.
